Can your busy, stressful reality truly transform into the abundant, restful reality of the kingdom of God? The Bible says yes. Through rest in Christ, your life can be fulfilled, productive, peaceful, and free to give and receive love.
But just what is Biblical rest, and how can it seamlessly fuse with your modern life?
In Resting Life: Jesus’ Rest for the Busy or Burdened Believer, Bible teacher Erika Mathews addresses this question. Discover the unification of rest with practical daily life, relationships with others, spiritual warfare, ministry, witnessing, prayer, meditation, fruitfulness, and personal abiding.
Through understanding and embracing God’s rest, you too will be uplifted, challenged, encouraged, and freed to live life as He intended—within Him.
This book is a culmination of over a decade of meditations and studies on Biblical rest, and my prayer is that it proves encouraging and helpful to believers seeking resting life in Jesus Christ in this fast-paced modern world. I'm thrilled and honored to launch this book into the hands of readers.
This is such a beautiful well thought about and carefully written it shows throughout the time and care Erica has taken throughout research, reading His word and writing this. It’s taken me a while to read this book not because it’s boring but because I reflected on each chapter. Before reading Resting Life I didn’t understand Gods rest aside from true rest being found in Him.
Erica explains Gods rest so well in this book it’s a must read!!!
While I received the book in exchange for a review all thoughts and how I felt are my own.
5 stars & 5/10 hearts. If you know me, you may know I’ve been battling loads of stress, anxiety, and fear for a long time. Particularly this year, as I juggled university, writing, reading, life, + COIVD issues. I began to wonder if maybe God was trying to teach me to focus on Him more than anything else. This book rather enforced that thought. I’m not sure if I agree with absolutely everything said within these pages, but with 99.99% I did. (It also used the KJV most of the time, though it used the AMP a handful of times, and maybe a few other versions once or twice...?). But it was good. It reminded me just how much I needed to be willing to make God the centre of my life and how to get into His rest. I really appreciated how well it was written and arranged, too. Overall I highly recommend it and I very much thank Mrs. Mathews for publishing this book.
*I received a copy of this book as a gift from the author. A review was not requested. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.*
There is some concern about the importance of salvation. This is a crucial part of the Christian life (acceptance of Jesus as one’s Savior), yet it was treated as secondary to rest.
At 81%, it occurred to me that “rest” in this book is equivalent to “contentment” in my life, as Paul said, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound.” (Philippians 4:11-12) It’s learning to rest in the Lord no matter the circumstances I face; to me, that’s contentment.
One issue I have with this book, which the above about contentment solves in my mind, is that “faith without works is dead” (James 2:20) and we are called to work six days and rest on the seventh (Sabbath), as Almighty God did when He created the world and everything in it. Contentment while working is ideal and what I aim for. I feel this is the heart of Resting Life.
I was having a hard time following this book. Granted, I'm in some pain because of my leg so that maybe it. I might try to pick this up again sometime.
I had the pleasure of beta-reading this book and was truly touched by the content. As someone with health issues and a schedule that can seem hectic at times, this book was exactly what I needed!
Erika Mathews just has a way with words and with explaining things that can help you really grasp God’s desire for your life. It’s obvious that she’s very knowledgeable, but at the same time explains things in a way that’s easy to grasp and sticks with you. I highly recommend this book!
