Omegas Under Siege #2

Omega's Secret Alpha

Rate this book
Logan

From the moment I first saw him, I knew I was screwed.

Bennet Long wasn’t just any handsome Omega with sinfully blue eyes and an body that could make an Alpha like me ache long after I’d watched him go. He was off limits. Completely forbidden. Not because I couldn’t take him. I knew the minute we first touched and I saw the way his cheeks flushed pink that I could have him. Make him mine.

No, I couldn’t even let myself think about taking Bennet Long—not because I couldn’t, but because it was wrong. I was fifty-five. He was barely old enough to buy his own beer. After one failed marriage already and a lifetime of military service, I knew I wasn’t suitable to be around any Omega at all—but the last Omega I needed to be throwing myself at was one as young, damaged and naive as him.

And then there was the other catch…the one that turned Bennet Long from a no-go zone into the juiciest piece of forbidden fruit I could imagine…

Bennet

I’d always found myself attracted to older Alphas, but after my last relationship came to such a violent, terrifying end, I never thought I’d actually be with one ever again. But ever since that awful, painful night, my body had been hurt in ways that I couldn’t explain. My heat started coming on stronger. More unpredictable. More desperate. Being around any Alpha at all when one hit me was a bad idea of the highest order…

But being around my best friend’s Alpha military hero dad?

With Logan’s broad, strong shoulders, thick, muscular arms and firm, I couldn’t have stopped myself even if I’d wanted to.

Logan was everything that I knew I didn’t need in my life. Authoritative. Commanding. Emotionally absent. But the things he made me feel were too strong to deny.

Could I try to anyway?

Not a chance.

A Forte Green Novel.

***** An Mpreg, non-shifter, second chances for each deserving man.
* Logan, 55, divorced with 37 years in the Military,

is facing his career ending and his loneliness. He's Teddy and deceased Jason's Dad, and he was rough, tough Master Sergeant, and too busy to spend time with them.

Now, Teddy is married to Roman and have their baby girl, Viola, in Montana. Alpha Logan gets his physical, and changes are coming.
* Omega Bennet, in his 20s, is a CNA,

Certified Nursing Assistant, is Teddy's friend, and gets Logan ready for his EKG.

Their attraction is immediate, but neither takes it seriously, there is too much going on in each man's life. Bennet had a horribly abusive childhood, an abusive boyfriend, who damaged him greatly, and so he's been afraid of any Alphas.
* This series is wonderful, with the wounded warriors, interesting lives we see, and the deeply flawed characters we come to love. Aiden Bates has always got his finger on the pulse of his men, in his shifters and like this one, non-shifter Mpreg. Each tale can stand alone. Love the older/younger.

When Bennet goes into heat unexpectedly, the sparks fly and these two scorch the sheets. Hot, hot, hot !
* Later when Bennet realizes he's pregnant, which was thought to be impossible, Logan is right by his side, until he isn't. Logan's past mistakes unfold and threaten this relationship, too.

I love the unique characters, sexy times that sizzle, and heartwarming epilogue.
ENJOY !

1.5 rounded up

IDK I was in a mood for some best friend's dad type situation, but this barely delivers. The "best friend" somehow doesn't find out until the epilogue, off-screen, well into the surprise MPREG?!? Which, I totally should have expected, but I didn't, and was absolutely not what I was wanting. The pacing in the beginning of the book was fine, but after that it was all sudden love confessions and dramatic partings that were apparently supposed to be read as break-ups even though they just read like a fight. Bennett in general came off as super immature, which makes sense, he's in his early 20s (I think?), but it was also clear the author felt like he was the one in the "right" despite not communicating clearly, frequently flouncing off in a huff, and not actually giving any kind of room for growth or a shared vision of the future. Disappointing.

Also, it seems like maybe there are literally no women in this world?!? And the writing was very repetitive--very much could have used a good beta or editor.

This book, like the first, didn't have the crazy OTT plots that I dislike in some of Aiden Bates ABO books. So that is a plus.

On the downside, the POVs sound pretty much the same. Considering that the POVs are a 55 year old Alpha drill sergeant (most likely with depression/PTSD) and a 23 year old Omega nurse assistant, you would think that those voices would be pretty different.

And I don't really care for Logan. Like, not at all.

Or the pretty much insta-love. It's obviously been less than a month, because Logan was put on leave for a month, and that month hasn't passed.

I don't understand how Logan couldn't have done anything when Bennett was a child and he suspected their father of abusing them. Like, a) you could have reported him b) considering you are this huge, intimidating alpha with a reputation that proceeds him, at the very least, you think he would have gone to have a little one-on-one "chat" with the father. It's not like Logan was also a kid in that situation. He has 32 years on Bennett. He would have been in his 40s.

Also, why would you keep a bunch of (unopened) baby stuff in your attic for 20+ years? That crib wouldn't be safe to use, and since you never had any other kids, your eldest son is dead and you didn't bother giving any of it to your other son for your grandchild, you should have donated it.

And not only missing appointments, but not even letting him know you're not going to show up to take him to said appointments? :|

This is an age gap story, which aren't always my cup of tea, but, by now, I trust that Aiden Bates can deliver a story, and I wasn't disappointed.

This is such an interesting story, with characters who are flawed, deeply human, and very easy to understand, as we know from where they are coming. I like that, and the fact that, even when the age-gap is really wide, it doesn't seem like it: Bennet, the younger, usually is the more mature between them due to his traumatic childhood; Logan, OTOH, acts with some immaturity, particularly in regards of relationships.

But their chemistry is obvious, and the story drew me in. I really enjoyed it.

Bill Burrows did a great job with the narration.

I secretly loved this!
I felt so much more connected and drawn in by the characters here - loved to see Logan figure out how to not be _that_ kind of alpha.
Kind of thought the timeline for the pregnancy was screwed and it seemed like barely a third of that had past when he went into labor. And not mentioning Teddy at all for the second half of this book feels like a major plot hole to me: He wanted his father to be checked on by someone personally at least once a week! And then there is no phone call at all for months? Yeah, I'm not buying that and given the fact that telling him about the relationship in the first place was one of the mentioned obstacles, it's a glaringly obvious oversight.
Still, overall I enjoyed this a lot and will go on to the next one. I'm kind of hoping for Pedro to wake up and get his story, but I'm afraid it might be Mitch's turn now - and I didn't like him at all. Seemed like a pretty useless friend to me. But we'll see.

Sexy older man

This is so much better than the last book. I got so irritated by the MCs that I almost DNF the first book. Ok I was frustrated with Logan and I wanted to smack him when he neglected Bennett during his pregnancy. I wanted to cry along with Bennett when he was all alone and miserable without support from his Alpha. Finally Logan came through on his promise to Bennett. I have always found older men irresistible especially when they are sexy as sin and the big age difference makes this book that much hotter.

I liked this book a bit better than the last. I really enjoyed seeing the rough old Sargeant be able to get his chance at starting over. It was really sweet.

This was cute. I didn't think I would like Bennet and Logan together but surprisingly I did. I thought their story was sweet and it just worked.

Very good read. Not all readers will agree as we are all different. One of those series for me that kept me reading. Once again I will not be doing any spoilers. But suggest you to read the series

I love Bennet and Logan's story. It's full of old heart aches and apprehensions on both sides that must be worked through. All those emotions are laid bare in the pages of this book.

I think this is the largest age gap between any couple that I have read in this genre. Whilst I was quite often aware of it, at other times it was easier to ignore. Logan, at 55, comes across as quite youthful despite his health issues. He owns a certain immaturity when faced with grownup relationships. Bennet, who has had a violent childhood and prior relationship, is often the more adult of the two.

This is a long audiobook. I listened to it over a week of the holiday season. I chose not to read the ebook, as I usually do, because I really enjoyed Bill Burrows narration. The story drew me in and there is a lot going on throughout. My only gripe is that an important person is kept in the dark about their relationship, but then the word "secret" is in the title!

Great read with a lovely HEA

Logan and Bennett was a surprising twist from book 1. I'm glad AB explores the age gap with their relationship, without the need for a daddy-bit age play. Just two people that fall in love with each other. Impressive libido for Logan at 55. Good motivation for people to look after their heath and bodies. Great story and works into a sweet HEA. Look forward to reading book3.

Love against the odds

This May/December couple has a lot that can come between them - career, friends, family, tragic past, self doubts - but their intense connection, chemistry, and love proves more powerful. Both Bennett and Logan struggled throughout this story but their characters proved worthy of their hard earned HEA.

That had me really engaged all the way up to the part where Bennett called Carter Teddy’s nephew. Teddy. Who is Carter’s brother. Not uncle.
Anyway, it was good. It could have used a little better editing in some pretty obvious spots, but all in all it was a sweet story.

Omega's Secret Alpha is the second book in the Under Siege series by Aiden Bates. This m/m romance involves an age gap, a best friend's father theme, military men, and an unexpected mpreg. There is some drama, a little humor, and lots of sexy-sweet romance. Logan and Bennet are great characters and I absolutely love their story.
