Love takes time, patience, and work. A true mate doesn’t mean true love.
From the time she was a little girl, Mary loved Jason. He was her knight in shining armor. Her first crush. Her first kiss. Her first everything, until he broke her heart and she vowed to hate him for a thousand lifetimes.
Jason is the future Alpha of Westin Pack. As an only child, he’s under extraordinary pressure to find his one true mate and carry on his family’s legacy. When he returns home from college after years away, he finds her in a pup he had always been protective of and attracted to, despite their age differences.
Now, Jason knows exactly what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it, but Mary carries years of resentment towards him and proves far more stubborn than expected. Can Jason find a path back to her heart and rekindle a flame he had fought to put out?
If you’ve read Westin Pack, you may think you know how this story goes. They seem like the perfect parents and grandparents today, but there was a time when Jason and Mary didn't exactly get along. We go back to the 80's when hair was long, music was loud, and Mary was devastated to find the egotistical future Alpha would be her one true mate.
Julie Trettel is a USA Today Bestselling Author of Paranormal Romance. She comes from a long line of story tellers. Writing has always been a stress reliever and escape for her to manage the crazy demands of juggling time and schedules between work and an active family of six. In her “free time,” she enjoys traveling, reading, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.
. Jason is a senior in high school and Mary is a junior. She's has a crush on him but she of course seems like a little kid at 14 to his 18. His wolf has come in and hers hasn't so even though they are drawn to each other they can't tell they are mates till both their wolves come in. Jason decides to get a girlfriend to help keep his distance from Mary. Enter the OW Jen. She doesn't actually play a big part of the story, but enough to create a wee bit of angst. Of course when Jason returns from college and realizes that Mary is his true mate, he has some work convincing her that their love was meant to be. That was the best part of the book for me as it was a little ego crushing for Jason. But he took it in stride so even that was unsatisying.
I was very disappointed with the usual double standard in the story with him having fun and her none during his last couple months of high school and their separation.
The story takes a dark turn towards the end that was a little out of left field after such a low angst read.
Wow! "UNDER A HARVEST MOON" is the latest, fan-freaking-tastic must read by Julie Trettel! ... What a phenomenal page-turner that’s a backstory for this author’s 1st amazing shifter series in the Westin Pack! This fills us in on the previous Alpha & Pack Mother & then the successors over the years :D What a wonderful, stand-alone story about ‘Fated Mates’ & love & loyalty to their Pack full, with family and friends, plus the almost enviable life and loves in such a peaceful community! ... With larger than life, relatable characters that practically jump off the pages, witty dialogue & fantastic attention-to-detail, plus surprise twists & turns, readers will be engaged & turning pages like crazy, like I did! :D ... Even tho I read this story originally in the compilation boxed set of “ Fated Mates “ that I recently purchased with other authors, these are my honest feelings on this single release now! ... I highly recommend this to all adult fans of fiction & I can't wait for more, but of course I will wait- even if not patiently ;) lol
I will forever being doing the math to figure out how these characters are “nearly 5 years apart” in age yet she’s a high school freshman and he’s a senior. That’s only like a 3 year difference. 4 at most. Unless he was held back and she started high school at 13.
OMG if you have read the Westin Pack Series, this book is a MUST. You finally get to hear the story of Mary and Jason, the parents and grandparents of the Westin Pack. This is where it began and having it take place in the 80's just made my day. I grew up in the 80's and boy did I feel the nostalgia. This book was fantastic! Another winner by Julie Trettel!
The beginning of everything. This book was highly anticipated by fans of the Westin Pack series as Mary and Jason are a staple in Westin Pack and the Collier Pack books. Their love has affected each of their children and inspired them to settle for nothing less than their one true mate. This book showed us the struggles they went through with a wonderfully detailed story from that outlines their connection from childhood into college aged main characters. It wasn’t nothing like I expected filled with teenage angst and broken hearts. It was funny to watch Jason, a high school senior, struggle with his immediate attraction to Mary, a high school freshman, and all the mate related thoughts his newly emerged wolf kept giving him. The time jump in the story was tasteful with out a ton of filler content. The struggle of Jason realizing how much he screwed up was easy to see coming since in context from this book alone Mary being his mate was obvious. It was funny how the story unfolded after the time jump to Mary’s senior every. The behavior and mindsets of the teens was spot on. There was parts that seemed inconsistent like how Mary’s parents didn’t seem encouraging about finding her one true mate or the possibility she could be Jason’s and made it seem like a fairytale, but were all supportive later on. Also story doesn’t quite line up with the Westin Pack books where Mary and Jason are the same age.
This prequel is a lovely story of young romance and fated mates in the case of Jason and Mary. Some nice period-perfect touches to ground the story in time.
What a great story WOW... This is the story of how the original Westin's met Jason and Mary. We have already met all their children in the books prior to this one and now it is Mum and Dads turn to tell us how they met. It is a bit of a rollercoaster of a romance and all begins when Jason is a senior in High school and Mary is just begining high school a freshman.. There is a 5 year age gap and as soon as they meet there is something between them that Jason trys to avoid. Mary hasn't got her wolf yet,so hers is just a normal teenage crush, but with Jason his wolf wants to claim her.But he stays away from Mary, but accidently kisses her one night Mary has stars in her eyes over it.But the next day she sees Jason kissing someone else and she vows to never let anyone break her heart again. Its only years later when Mary gets her wolf and can shift that they meet up again..and its then she discovers Jason is her one True Mate...Mary is not happy, Jason is elated and proves to her he isn't the guy she thought he was. I became so emotional towards the end of this book,as it took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn. But it shows how strong Mary is at that time and how she is a natural pack mother and devoted Partner to Jason. I really loved this book and it was perfectly narrated by Carly Robins and Joe Hempel, they are always excellent...I thoroughly enjoyed Jason and Mary's love story it was romantic, steamy, tragic and emotional...Thankyou Julie Trettel for writing this book. Brilliant !! 5 Stars.
This was actually so cute and adorable! At first I was a bit confused but then it was really fast paced and now its over and I am crying. The full circle moment and just, all the little tidbits, are so cute. Also shoutout to the author for making this the smutt-yness book yet, cause yas, I was feeling it. I actually really enjoyed Mary and Jason's story. And come on, 5 years isnt that big an age difference. Now 500 years is a different story.
Mary fits gets a crush on jason because who wouldnt but then he is a total dick and she vows to hate him for a thousand lifetimes. To be honest, I thought she caved a bit too easily, but who am I to judge true love and yadayada.
Jason is a typical clueless boy who listens to peer pressure and then it bites him in the butt. I like how he got his crap together. But I am sad about the ending, I really liked that particular character. :/
overall, I really enjoyed this prequel? to the series and I enjoyed going on this ride with the westin pack. And because I am obsessed, I will be starting the collier pack books as well.
I enjoyed this book. Even though Mary & Jason were young in this book, they were very mature (especially Mary) so it did not bother me to read about them even though I cannot stand young adult books. They acted like adults and there weren’t much of the young people drama. This book is the story of the parents of the Westin kids in the Westin Pack book series. I liked reading about their relationship and watch it develop into a strong bond. Good action & no angst. I followed the author’s recommendation to read this after finishing the series. Personally, I would’ve preferred to have read it after book 1. That way, as I’m reading the other books in the series, I would feel more connected with them whenever they appeared in the books as the parents of the MC. I recommend this book and the series and can see me reading them in the future (starting with this book first). I recommend!
I cannot even begin to express how deeply in love I am with Mary and Jason Westin. From the moment I started reading the Westin pack series, I was hooked. I devoured each and every book, but today, I finally finished reading "Under the Harvest Moon" for the first time in forever. And let me tell you, it has quickly become my absolute favorite. Sure, some of the other books have adventure and tragedy, but nothing compares to the heartwarming story of Mary and Jason. They are the heart and soul of the entire Westin family, and their love story is one that will stay with me forever. I implore you, if you have the time, read this book. Understand the depth of Mary and Jason's love and how it started the beautiful tradition of Tuesday night family dinners. It may be the last book in the series, but it is, without a doubt, the most incredible and closest to my heart.
Mary has had a crush on Jason Westin for years. He was her first love, her first kiss and he is also the one who broke her heart before he went off to college. Mary vowed to hate him for a thousand lifetimes. Mary's parents are absentee parents who are more focused on their careers than their daughter and Mary is lonely. When her wolf comes in she goes to her Alpha for help as her wolf is very strong and she needs help learning control. A bond forms between Mary, her Alpha and Pack Mother. Mary spends a lot of time with them and is there when Jason returns from college. It becomes apparent Jason is her one true mate. What is she going to do, he broke her heart, can she learn to trust him again. I loved this book, the story is heartbreaking and original with amazing characters.
4 1/2 stars for me. I enjoyed the introduction and that the story was the meeting of her mate. Mary had her doubts about herself, but the Pack Mother took her under her wing. She was a natural as well as had a strong wolf. Jason left for college with occasional trips home. When he saw the more-grown-up Mary, he was stunned. They tried hard to fight the mating for what they thought was practical reasons, but circumstances changed. They were a great couple, very caring and protective of the entire pack. I really enjoyed it and will look into more in this series.
I enjoyed listening to Carly Robins and Joe Hempel. They did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life.
Have read all Westin pack ,collier pack , Westin force and arc shifters all amazing books and could put them down all the different emotions from each book is different but I'm so glad I left this one till last and reading Mary and Jason's story one minute I was happy then angry the excited the sad omg I actually cried with this one just loved it so much and really hope more will be coming from both the packs, arc shifters and Westin force so sad I've read every one of them I may need to go back to the start and read all over again. I would definitely rate higher than a 5 star if I could 100%
Although I have read most all of the series by this author, I was surprised by learning even more new facts about this incredible Pack. Mary and Jason's story was heartbreaking, emotional, and oftentimes humorous, but overall it was how they bonded together that changed everything for them. It's certainly not a story to be missed. I would highly recommend reading all of the series that are connected, beginning with this. They're all absolutely fantastic stories, and you will love them! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
Care Bears, big hair, ripped jeans, trapper keepers, it was 1984, Mary’s freshman year and Jason’s unnecessary senior year and the flames on her crush for Jason are being industrially fanned. Along with teen-aged angst, broken hearts, vows of forever and never. Plus, the drama it all brings.
Aaaarrrgh! Grammatical errors! (Penalty stars!!) That said, this cute outing is a quick enough read that gives fans a glimpse of Westin Pack Alpha and Pack Mother Emeritus from before their ‘courtship’ and rise to power as leaders of the pack. Rating: 3.25stars
I’ve read the entire set of books in this first series of books. They are are fast paced reading, hold your attention and flow easily from the first book to the next. The author has done a good job of creating a science fiction - type story line into a romance-type reading. Yes, it’s a bit fantasy and sci-fi combined , but the story keeps your attention. Each book flows together from the first to the 2nd etc, very well.
Good book to read to take your mind off of other things and escape for awhile. I like sci-fi movies, so this is no surprise I would find this authors writing interesting.
I’ve enjoyed reading these books and will continue to read a few more! Happy reading!
This story is so needed as it tells us about the parents to the Westin children. Jason and Mary met when they were young and as he is 4 to 5 yrs older. She was always too young, but Jason knew something was there. He chose to ignore it as she was much too young. In high school she was a freshman and he was a senior. This tells their story plus you'll meet Jason parents William and Lilliana. Such a great addition.
I love the whole series of the Westin Pack and all of the family. Reading each one, I could feel the love and pain of each of the family. The love of each other and of their mates stretching out to the Pack. It’s a definite must read. This is the second time I’ve read them.
I absolutely love this book but the final few chapters gutted me. After reading all the kids' books, I figured something had happened to Alex but I wasn't at all prepared to read it.
The book does slow way down around the time he heads back to school, but it's still good. Just be prepared for the final 3ish chapters, because it's brutal 😂.

It was so wonderful to read the story of the Alpa and Pack Mother from the beginning. After reading their adult children all find their one true mate it was great to see the beginning of the loving family.
A truly wonderful read after reading the whole Westin series, its lovely to see where it all started. Mary and Jason's story was everything you could possibly want and more I laughed and cried all the way through.
The Westin wolves are wonderful! I enjoyed every single story in the series. I feel blessed to have found this series. Thank you for transporting me into your world for awhile.
I didn’t think I needed to read this story since it’s out of the time line but let me tell you!!! You have to read this!! Their love story and all they went through really puts the whole series into perspective. 100/10 wonderful
Taking it back to where it all started with Jason and Mary. Man I am so glad Jason didn’t die and was only seriously injured back in Kyle’s book. In this one we get to see where they started and why Tuesday nights were so important. It’s a beautiful love story. So glad this one was added!!
All the books in this series is really interesting and good to read. I really enjoyed the adventures and plot along the book. I appreciate the story telling version of the author and hope to read other series of hers.
I so enjoyed the story of Jason & Mary I was glad to read that they both had hard times. They work so hard to survive early o and they did. I’m glad you decided to write their story. Than you.
I think it would have been nice if we had read this book first for the beginnning of the Westin Series. It brought a new and detailed relationship that helped give the Westin story a fuller explanation in several areas.
I have already read and enjoyed both the Collier and Westin Pack series. It does not surprise me to read the 'prequel" last. Great story... intriguing, dramatic, and at one point, actually had me in tears, and I am not a crier!
