Kyler orbits more closely around Randy and Kelly's world as the chase heats up to find the fugitives and bring them to the senator for vengeance. New territories are opened and the world continues to expand. Loyalties are built and destroyed as everyone struggles to beat their way through this new normal. Climb in and buckle up while we keep hydro-sliding backwards at a hundred miles per hour through the Zombie apocalypse.
Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)
Two of my favorite houses growing up!
I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!
I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!
The apocalypse is a rough place but it's not just the Zombies you have to watch out for. (Although they can definitely ruin your day.) In this next installment in the Zombies series we keep learning more about the lengths people will go to for survival. Even more fascinating than what they'll do to survive is finding out what they're NOT willing to do to survive. Seeing if they recognize that little acts of evil every day add up to one big evil. The death by a thousand cuts kind of scenario. It's so easy to justify doing the wrong thing if you think you're doing it for the right reasons.
Throw these ethical challenges into a world where Zombies and truly evil men are trying to kill you and your kids and you get to see what people are made of. Some surprise you and others let you down. That's just life in the apocalypse. Not so different from life outside the apocalypse unfortunately. Just with a lot more cannibalism and gratuitous violence. I hope you enjoy reading Zombies! as much as I enjoy living it in my head and writing it down. On to the next adventure!
Book #5 is another great addition to the Zombies! series. 'Greater Love Hath No Man' has much less zombie fighting and a huge amount of human in-fighting within the group and plenty of out-fighting with their human rivals. The group has a number of small children to protect which adds to the (already high) stressors and anxieties of surviving the never ending zombie apocalypse. Nerves are frayed and keeping everyone unified and working towards an agreed upon goal seems almost impossible much of the time. This episode has very good character development and we get a closer look into individual personalities and discover who is disloyal and who is committed to doing what is best for the greater whole. By the end, many have been weeded out and those left have become like family. They trust and depend on one another for not only survival but friendship. Then again, many families have "black sheep".... Looking forward to finding out what is next for the group - as they continue to flee from being vehemently hunted down by their very dangerous (not yet undead) foes. Mike Thomas continues to do a wonderful job with his high intensity narration.
I enjoy Merritt's stories. His tales are entertaining and interesting. Characters are mostly well developed and believable. He does need to work on his writing technique. He tends to repeat words over and over again unnecessarily (they got in the car, started the car, drove the car, then turned on the radio in the car, etc. - we know they are in the car) which distracts from the story. These are fun, dimestore, zombie adventure novels. If you are looking for something along those lines, this series fits the bill.
Mike Thomas continues to do well reading the books for Audible.
This novel in the series is full of action packed scenes along with a touch of humor. Randy and Kelly are doing their best to protect their children in this post apocalyptic world. They must battle living dead AND the evil Brotherhood and all they really want is to be left alone. Kyler is a young man serving the Brotherhood but silently disagreeing with their evil ways.
The only reason I’m giving this a 3 star rating is because I listened to this on Audible and I have to say…. I typically enjoy the narrator but his Rodriguez accent was horrid. It was embarrassing to listen to and made me cringe every single time.
With that, I’m still very much enjoying the story and thought this book had some really fun/exciting events, converging narratives and I’m really enjoying how multiple storylines intersected and can’t wait for the final culmination.
I will listen/read the next 2 books —just hope the narrator doesn’t botch up any more “accents”. (Sorry R.S. — it’s not you, it’s them)
Every time I put the book down I wanted to read more. The only reason I had to put it down was life, work, etc. If I didn't have to stop the whole series would have been read by now. If you like a good family story and a good zombie story, then this series is for you.
I'm not sure what part of the story that captured me most, following Kylers path or the family, it is a hard choice. But finally they get closer to eachother, even appearing in the same area. This is so intence.
I was wondering how it was all going to come together. If this was the last book I would of been somewhat satisfied but I’m glad it’s not. I can’t say enough how good this series is.
Already looking forward to book 6. Stuck in an RV with a spouse that has this annoying COVID19 VIRUS gives me a lot of time to read! Stay safe everyone!
I have to say this is another good one. Just when you think you know a character, the surprises keep coming. I loved it and I cannot wait to read the next one.
The story becomes your story. Very action packed and nerve wracking with the close calls with the brotherhood and zombies. The characters seem as real as me.
This series is getting better and better. Kylar, Kelly, Randy and the kids have made an awesome start for freedom. I'm on the edge of my seat. Next book lined up and ready to go
Outstandingly well written storyline and story that has been brilliant quality reading the characters grow and develop their potential for each other and the plot twists and turns through the story
With everything being destroyed by the zombies. You would think people would concentrating on more important things. Like saving lives. Also gathering food and resources for living.
A lot of the typos and lack of editing had me confused on parts of the story and stumped and messed up the flow of the book. So took some time to push through but I love this series so was worth it but please for the love of reading and writing get an editor or revise the writing. Lots of misused words? , names, messed up the cheese whiz thing. He didn’t have it but then had it. Was hella confusing. But love the characters love the stories though I feel the smart zombies aren’t getting enough story time cause now I’m like what’s the point of the quiet staring zombies. Can’t wait for next book tho!
I am resubmitting my offer to proofread your material before publication. Your books are phenomenal but spelling is definitely an issue. In one book the people were in a vehicle that was grey then blue then grey ( or the other way around- it’s been awhile since that book) In another ‘Kyler’ was referenced and he hadn’t joined Kelly or Randy yet. Not intending to be nitpicking, it’s just one of my quirks. If you are interested, (this offer is free) figure out a way for us to communicate. This is not by any means an attempt to use your manuscript for anything other than the proof reading and I would be more than willing to sign a contract or non disclosure agreement.
History repeating itself in the ZA, and why gaining all the power (Senator) and lose your soul? The Senator was a dirty politician before the ZA, and now he's able to put this mob tactics in to real gang, criminal activities. Keeping people in drugs to keep them loyal is a whole mind of thug tactics. Please let Randy, Kelly, Kylar, Caitlyn, Myriah, Zoey, Doreen and Ali make it to safety.😖
Book 5 did not disappoint. I’m glad that stories finally coalesced in this book. There are a few editing errors (names don’t match up like in previous books) but it doesn’t distract from the story. Can’t wait for the next installment!
I would love to give this book 5 stars because the writing deserves 5 stars, but it has so many editing errors! I hope the next book is ready to read because it such a great series!
These books are awesome!!! Lots of action and suspense. I would highly recommend reading them! I feel like I really get to know the characters as they tell more of their stories.
The story continues at breakneck speed as our heroes work to get their girls to safety and away from the vengeful Brotherhood. Awesome story and plotting.
