If only....

Intrigue ...but what? What is hidden in Vienna?
Oops...did I smirk out loud as I recognized that character?
How's a good man -I think he's a good man- going to come out of this?
Really???? If only....

A wine connoisseur with special skills takes on a secret investigation for the President of the US

Many things are not as they appear and old sins cast long shadows - both true for this well written story involving deception and corruption. I like the way the main character, Darren Priest, navigates his job and every encounter with calmness and purpose. This book is a novel but the story accurately depicts human qualities from the worst to a surprising display of integrity. I'm looking forward to Book 2 in this series.

mysteries without mystery

first person narrative most of the time that insists on revealing everything from minute one. only the bad guys don't get let in on all those secrets. of course, you never truly know who the bad guys are but there has to some mystery in the story, right. you'll learn a lot about wine, Vienna, and full circles that can close ranks faster than backsides can be covered. which makes for readable books.

Great reading

This book was amazing. I felt like I was in Austria. The description of the area, the buildings, the food and wine transported me right in the book. The storyline was believable and it was a fascinating story. I loved the characters and they came to life for me. I will be reading all of the author books.

I have to say that I struggled with this book. It is supposed to be a thriller but it wasn't that thrilling. A man is trying to find something in a austrian bank but we actually don't know what and why. When we learn finally that it is to do with president and his teenage age, it get more interesting but it is almost towards the end. We read a lot about various restaurants, cafés and bars, sample lots of food, beer and wine... The book feels more like a food blog that a thriller... But, it was nice to read about Vienna and its establishments and Darren seemed like a nice guy so I will givee the series another chance... Maybe the next book will pick up more exciting topic.

Pretty good story. Too much wine stuff. Too many conveniences move this story along that aren't realistic. It is pleasant to read, not very gritty.

Great read!

Loved visiting Austria and hearing about the cuisines and all the different wines native to the country, and how it all meshed with the mystery and adventures the author gave his readers in this excellent story. I look forward to reading more from Dick Rosano!

This thriller starts really well, but it becomes less interesting - not quite to the point of giving up.

Couldn’t put it down

Good mystery, interesting characters. Setting is well presented. Writing is good without distracting typos or other errors. Couldn’t put it down.
