Savage Isle: Beautiful Isolated Deadly
Genetically enhanced primates are frighteningly intelligent and exponentially more dangerous.Laralee and a group of scientists tasked with creating genetically enhanced primates succeeds beyond their wildest dreams. But when several workers are brutally attacked, it becomes clear that the beasts are growing smarter, more cunning, and ever more vicious.
While relocating the lab to a larger island, a typhoon blows their ship far off course. Striking submerged rocks, it sinks while both animals and humans fight their way free. Unaware of how many of the beasts survive the shipwreck, Laralee and her team face their own nightmarish creations in a bloody battle to survive on an isolated, deserted island.
Savage Isle is the thrilling stand-alone prequel to STRANDED. If you enjoy suspenseful adventure, experiments gone horribly wrong, and animals who exact revenge, you’ll love this page-turner.

“WOW!! From the very first sentence, "Savage Isle" grabbed me and took me on a roller coaster ride of adventure. The story carries you along quickly but provides all the details needed to fully understand the action I felt like I was right there in the jungle with Laralee, Carl, and the others. I felt Morley's pain and loneliness and wanted to go with him to help kill the monkeys! Then again, maybe not..they're too vicious to tangle with. I'm definitely going to read STRANDED. Scherberger has a talent for pulling you in and making you feel like you're right in there with the characters. She's my new favorite author!!!!”

About the author
Beverley Scherberger
11 books9 followersI was introduced to writing in the sixth grade when my English teacher told the class we'd be learning how to write short stories. I remember thinking, "Write a short story? I'm just a kid!" But I loved the experience and knew I wanted to keep on doing it.
Attending Miami University of Ohio at age 40 gave me the unique perspective of being older than most of the students and many of my professors. Not interested in who was dating who or what sorority was doing what, I concentrated on my studies and graduated summa cum laude.
After penning over 200 published non-fiction articles for various magazines and newspapers, I tried my hand at fiction and am now hooked. It's what I enjoy reading and have found I enjoy writing it, too.
Currently, I have one full-length novel ("STRANDED") and two novellas ("Saving Serena" and "Legacy of the Fallen Angel") for sale on Amazon. In addition, I have one novella based upon a movie script that will soon be released in theaters ("The Problem with Men"). What am I working on now? A prequel to "STRANDED" and another book based upon a movie script--"The Accidental Filmmaker." Stay tuned!

Savage Isle: Beautiful Isolated Deadly
by Beverley Scherberger
The first third of the book was full of potential and interesting! Scientists trying out new drugs on monkeys and orangutans. Orangutans were getting smarter and bonding with the humans. Monkeys were getting smarter and trying to kill humans. I can't say I had any sympathy for the humans since they were dying animal testing! But, something happens....then things go south. You would think things would get even more exciting, right? No, there is a long boring spell then the last could of paragraphs seem to rush the ending! I have it 3 stars for the potential!

You know when you start a book about aggressive animal testing by the government you're in for a hell of a ride. This book really gripped me right from the start. I could not wait to see how things would progress and I did enjoy the MC's and watching their journey. Even while conducting scary and abhorrent tests they still maintained humanity and decency. I could not wait to see how things would go haywire and boy did they. After trying to relocate their entire team including their animal experiments, their ship goes down in a storm and the (very) few lucky survivors wash up on a nearby island. Only they are not alone, some of their experiments survived and made it to the island too. An already life threatening situation only goes from bad to worse and emotions are very high in this book. Honestly I'm pretty shocked with how many times I never saw something coming especially the long periods of time the MCs would be on the island. If this is in any way the intro it claims to be to Stranded: A White-Knuckle Adventure Above and Below the Sea I don't know if I should be frightened or as ready to dive in as I am now. This was a really great read that took me completely by surprise.

Okay......evil monkeys deserted island....what could go wrong. This was gripping. Each time you thought that some good would come it didn't and things got worse. I loved James and would have liked to see more of him. I can't believe that no-one would look for them even after the second ship. I can't wait to see what happens in the next one.

Laralee and Carl are scientists working for the Spanish government, trying to make monkeys smarter and more aggressive so they can attack their enemies (I know, not a great plan). They're also trying to make gentle orangutans smarter... so they can be gardeners and do housework? That part doesn't quite make sense either. They're moving their whole research base to a different island when they're caught in a shipwreck. The human survivors make a village and a life while hoping to be rescued. But what about the primates?
This book was written as a prequel to Stranded: A White-Knuckle Adventure Above and Below the Sea. Maybe I should have read that first. The first half of this book is a fairly straightforward story about scientists doing science, and then getting stuck on a deserted island... the second half gets weirder. I won't say more because of spoilers...

I have always been a huge animal lover and wanting to pet things I probably shouldn't. I'll be the first one to want to pet an elephant or a tiger or any other animal that could basically kill me. I was the kid who went fishing only to catch a fish, kiss it, and let it back into the water. Needless to say, I have been bitten by dogs, scratched by cats, chomped down on by a donkey and the list could go on and on. I do have to say though that after reading SAVAGE ISLE, I definitely do not want to pet those monkeys! I want to keep my fingers and face, just saying!
SAVAGE ISLE started out with a bang. A worker at the research facility stepped a little too close to the monkey cage and paid for the price with his life. After the attack, Laralee, a scientist on the tiny island thought it would be best if the entire facility was moved to a bigger island, just for safety sake. Her husband, Carl, also a scientist, agreed with her. Their next step was to get permission from the Spanish Committee on Scientific Experiments. There work on the island was very important. The experiments on the monkeys was for the benefit of the Spanish in creating vicious monkeys capable of defeating its opponents. Not only did Laralee work at creating a serum to turn the monkeys into vicious savage beasts, but they also worked with the orangutans. The Orangutans were to be helpers. Giant caring beasts that could perform daily tasks such as house chores and helping the elderly.
Finally, their request to move was approved and they set out on a week long journey to a bigger and better island. Only, the team never made it as a storm came in and knocked them off course. They were left stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. Would help arrive in time before they were ravaged by the monkeys they created?
SAVAGE ISLE was a good read. I loved the premise, even though I don't agree or would ever agree to testing on animals, but this is a work of fiction and as such, my attention was held and I could not wait to find out what the monkeys would do and what else they could be capable of. The story was full of action and I was biting my nails waiting for the moment when those stranded realized the monkeys were on the island too. There were a couple of parts I would have loved to see expanded, but it did not detract from my enjoyment of the story. If you are a fan of animals gone wild and crazy in an evil and cunning way, then you should pick yourself up a copy of this story. You will not be disappointed.

As a child, I remember watching Planet of the Apes starring Charlton Heston and being totally hooked on the principle of monkeys being intelligent enough to rule and fight. In recent years the new Planet of the Apes franchise packs a punch with full on action and adventure which cemented my love for this genre. When I saw the cover for Beverley Scherberger’s Savage Isle I didn’t hesitate to find out more.
The blurb suggests a fast-paced read with plenty of thrills and horror, and the opening chapters don’t disappoint. I instantly connected to Laralee and felt her terror when the monkeys she was working with became the stuff of nightmares. The author opens with a graphic hook and then builds the tension so you can’t possibly put the book down.
Unfortunately, for me, the fabulous spark at the start of the book fizzled out once the scientists were shipwrecked. I was expecting the team to be picked off one at a time by the mutant monkeys. I had expectations of a do or die nature where we saw the survivors grow into their new roles and fight back against their own creations. Instead, the storyline follows the survivors pairing off, building houses, and having babies. We are rushed through years of ‘nothing’ until the characters I’d connected with at the start die and the story follows their offspring with more pairing off, building houses, and having babies. The savage monkeys who had been the hook for me appeared a handful of times and the lovely Orangutan’s we meet at the start are never heard from again. I was hoping they would pop up as a strong family unit to save the day.
I kept reading in the hope that the fantastic build-up and thrills would return but I was disappointed. Not what I was expecting from such a gripping blurb and cover.

Once again Beverley Scherberger has written a top notch action packed adventure and reading throughout the night.
Savage Isle is basically a prequel to "Stranded" therefore I was slightly less shocked by the occasional bit of gore here and there. Hearing of Jasper's much deserved demise was very descriptive, but I was so glad to see him dispatched!(Oops, sorry! Spoiler alert!)

Hard to imagine that people can be dropped into horrific circumstances, yet the human will to live, pushes them to survive, innovate and thrive. Yet so much hardship and adversity for Morley to bear. Losing his parents at a young age and then meeting the love of his life only to have them ripped out from within his grasp is unimaginable. What he endures and being left in solitude for years is beyond my comprehension. I was devastated by Morley losses several times, but he kept driving forth. It is the ultimate metaphor of life, regardless of how tragically, we all face the pain of loss and our response and eventual acceptance of it, decides how much we take from it and where we go with it.
Kudos Beverley. Now that you have given us a prequel to "Stranded", I am begging you to do a sequel for Stranded!!!

OMG! What a strange trip
This book grabbed me from the first words and took me on a trip to eternity. The scientists were trying to make the monkeys into soldiers for Spain. Soldiers that would kill the enemy with no guilt. Deciding the island they are working on is too small, they are granted permission to move to another island. Once the facility is built on the new island they load up the cages on a boat and set out. A storm comes up and the boat sinks. 11 people make it on a lifeboat to a small island. This is where the trip begins! The people are very well written. The island is described very well. You can almost smell the ocean and the jungle. This story was so good I couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action, adventure, A little romance, and mystery. Its a great read!

I read this book after reading “Stranded” & I loved how it supported Morley’s story from that book. It gave an insight on the backstory of the animals.
My heart sank a few times for the characters.
The idea of a government wanting to alter an animal to be vicious blew my mind and was a little sickening on its own. You hear of countries wanting to progress in warfare, but this was a little extreme especially since these animals didn’t have a control button and couldn’t be stopped. I wonder how the government would’ve controlled the monkeys once released, because they were so vicious and ruthless, that them following orders wouldn’t even be an option & id imagine killing them after they did what they were set out to do, would be a waste of money and wouldn’t be ideal so yeah… what was the ultimate reasoning for needing something so awful and malicious created.
Also, when Angie was attacked & raped, I shedded some tears and totally didn’t see that coming. I did however later question whether Bob was the attackers son because of his bullying tendencies towards Andy. Even though she was pregnant during the attack, it made me wonder if they had a fling before her and Vincent had made it official. I only questioned that because it was a weird coincidence that the woman who was attacked by a man they stated was a bully, had a bully for a son.
I truly felt awful for Morley and how he was treated by Kit’s parents. He had done nothing for them to treat him the way they did & honestly, if they would’ve treated him better the home they were making could’ve been near them, but because he felt unwelcomed and was treated as such, I would understand why they wanted to be further away. The description of their home sounded beautiful, however when she was pregnant with their son, I understood why she would want to be with her family. Again, the way Morley was treated was awful. They were hypocrites in saying they lost once child, and they weren’t going to let Kit go… but they are expecting Morley to let his son go?? I also felt that Kit should’ve stood up for her own little family & done what she could to be with him. Morley was a wonderful dad, keeping a watchful eye on his son from a distance.
I also was curious to why they boys didn’t walk around the island to get to the other side, because they said the monkeys never got close to the water, so I feel like that would’ve been the safest place to be. I was also curious to why the orangutans didn’t make more of an appearance throughout the book after they were stranded on the island. The only time they are mentioned is when Jasper is killed & they find an orange hair implying that an orangutan did it, and when the guys were helped over the cliff. Morley had mentioned feeling like the tang has been watching him, but I was a little disappointed to read they didn’t play any part in trying to help the humans survive. I understand they may be a little skeptical to interact with the humans because they had this new found freedom, but the survivors had all once worked with them & loved them so I thought that bond would stay strong even after the shipwreck.
As side from my own little opinions here and there, I thought it was a great read and gave insight after reading Stranded. I overall enjoyed the characters and the storyline. The ending was heartbreaking, but after reading Stranded.. I knew what to expect but I enjoyed finding out the actual detail of the events.

A page turner that hooked me from the start!
Savage Isle is not a book I would normally read…but since I am an animal lover, the cover instantly peaked my curiosity. Why would a monkey be portrayed so ferociously, I wondered? Well, I found out! Once I started reading the book, I couldn’t put it down.
Beverley takes you on a terrifying mind-blowing journey to a deserted island where humans are NOT necessarily at the top of the food chain. Without giving too much away, let’s just say that after reading this book, you will NEVER look at monkeys in the same way again. I can’t wait to read the sequel to see what happens next. If you like mystery, a little romance, and adventure mixed in with terror, be sure to read Savage Isle!

This book was definitely NOT was I expected it to be! It was much better!
In Savage Isle our story begins with a lovely scientist couple and others they work with. Sadly, their lives turn upside down when their ship, which is transporting the monkeys and orangutans they have experimented on, crashes. From there we are thrown into a wild story about survival, revenge, love, and how far we go for the ones we care about.
I started and finished within around 4 hours because I just couldn't put this book down!
I only give 4 🌟 instead of 5 🌟 because I feel like a few things had loose ends and weren't fully explained nor answered.

A serum developed to make apes more intelligent. Some get very aggressive and kill a lab worker. They are granted more space for another larger lab at a distant location. They pack up and board the ship taking them and the apes to the new lab. During the travels the ship encounter a violent storm which partially sinks the ship stranding the personnel and apes on a deserted island. The apes will reproduce over time and will be very dangerous. How long will they be on the island and will they survive? A page turner.

Prequel to Stranded, written after
Wow, I read Stranded first and this was the backstory of the monkeys, earlier survivors and how they came to be on the island. Stranded was the author's first book and it was excellent and this one tied up loose ends and let Readers know the why. Just as good still heartbreaking . You also saw the beginnings of Morley. Enjoyed, excellent story.

Part 1 was great. Part 2, on the other hand, was the most long, drawn out, tedious thing there was. If the book had stopped at the end of part 1, I would have been more okay with it. The reading level's a bit young for the subject matter - maybe a 6th grade reading level? - but the subject matter's no good for someone at that level. Then, add in the fact that chapter 10 is in there twice, verbatim, it's just...sloppy. Not sorry I tried it, per se, but will not be continuing with this author.

Good
Spoilers?
I loved this book. The story was amazing. I was hoping for more through. When the ship crash and they made it to the island along with the monkey's, I was hoping that they would be fighting for survival for the whole time. Was disappointed when the monkey's didn't start going after them till the end. For the 12 years or so they lived on the island with the monkey's somewhat peaceful.

As a stand alone book this was a bit strange. It was good at the beginning, on the ship and scientists , all that, they get shipwrecked, and that was good and then all of the sudden Gilligan's island and then a jump forward in time, and a totally different feel to the book. If you have read Stranded, then it will make a bit more sense. I really liked Stranded, this one not quite so much. Great cover though.

I read Stranded and decided to check this one out.
This was the story of how the monkeys, apes and Morley got on the lonely island
I knew it would be a tragic story of what happened to Morley in his early life.
I enjoyed how it told the story of his parents as well.
All in all, a great book but very heartbreaking.

For some reason my kindle said this book was 760pages long, it definitely was not. However it was a really good book aside from a few tiny details (to lend to believability). I'm def getting the 2nd book right now

I kept reading as I wanted to know how it would end. The jumps around in time really threw me and took me out of the story. I only felt the fear of the monkeys in the very beginning then not much happened with them until the end. It was a very disjointed story.

Wow
I really like this new author. The story is very fast pace and keeps you wanting to read the book in one sitting. Get her books and leave your reviews.

Fast paced!
I really liked the two experiments. I expected planet of the apes, this was so much more!! Very good! Can't wait to read the next one.

Picked up this book not realizing it was a prequel. I enjoyed the premise of the story but I felt like it was lacking more of the science fiction vibes. The beginning is full with the genetically modified monkeys but once they get to the island it feels more like a basic survival book with little mention about the science anymore, just sometimes killer monkeys.
I rated it this 2.5 stars because I read it all and enjoyed some aspects like the beginning and the visuals of the island but that’s it. Not sure if the next book is any different or more survival and not much science.

Once again Beverley Scherberger has written a top notch action packed adventure that kept me reading throughout the night.

Now that you have given us a prequel to "Stranded", I am begging you to do a sequel in the same series!!!

I enjoyed this book so, so much! I had previously read "Stranded" and really loved reading this prequel novel. I liked getting the back story of how the survivors ended up on the island, where the monkeys and 'tans came from, and getting to know more about Morley. This book was full of action, adventure, suspense, and romance, and was thoroughly entertaining. Great, great story!

I think I’ve discovered a new wonderful author.
This is a book I didn’t want to put down.
The characters are well developed and the storyline leaves you believing it really could have happened. I am so looking forward to reading “Stranded” which is a stand alone book, or actually follows”Savage Isle”.
