She’s been bought by a monster. Her pack has sold her to science. Not just science, but the dark, sick side of science.
My job is simple. I’m being paid to turn in whoever set up these monstrous labs. But once I see her, the Bear in me is clawing, roaring, bull-heading his way out of me.
I never lose my mind, but for her, I do. I lose all sense of propriety, all sense of duty and mission. I need to break her out of here.
I don’t know where this is going. But I have two options: I can guess, or I can bluff. I choose bluff.
Let them try to stop me. I’ll tear their throats out. I’ll fight to the end.
‘Cause she belongs to me.
We’re the Bear Justice MC. We’re like paid vigilantes, on the hush-hush end of things, making sure that justice is served in this world. We’re kept off the books, off the radar, and if we ever get caught doing what we do… things won’t be pretty. But there’s no rest for the wicked. So let’s get the engine roaring. Duty calls.
Ruby lives on a farm with her two daughters and husband. Besides horses, chickens, and a donkey, she sometimes imagines that there are other types of animals on her farm, too... Animals that turn into Very Hot Men at night to look for their mates... Whenever that happens, she turns to her computer and writes down the paranormal love stories of these rough Wolf, Bear, and Dragon shifters who will destroy any obstacle to protect their mate. Come and enjoy the steamy, suspenseful, and slightly sweaty adventures of Ruby's shifter romance world.
I think the blurb was more interesting than the book itself...
I read this on my Kindle Unlimited book pass, hoping I get to read another great bear shifter tail (excuse the pun!), but I must say I was disappointed on many levels.
Beware. This is my first review fully loaded with spoilers, but since I didn't think this book was that interesting, I really don't care about revealing too much. Sorry, but that's my feelings about the subject.
So what is it all about? Wolf shifter gets sold to an underground pharmaceutical group who knows about shifters and wants to be able to distill what characteristics of a shifter desired and pass those talents to a non-shifter. Enter our bear shifter hero who is after the guy (a wolf shifter) who bought our heroine to experiment on, and our bear shifter rescues her from the lab. He realizes that she is her mate. (Gee, ain't that great...) She can't feel it because, lo and behold, her wolf has been sucked from her soul. The bad guys eventually attack, shifter bear wins, our lovers have hip-grinding sex, etc., etc., etc...
Interesting idea to center a PNR upon, but is it really doable? As a well-thought-out idea and a plot line? Personally, not really as I believe anything therian (a real, scientific term for shifter stuff) is at a DNA level. (Really!!) It would have made for a better story if I haven't had read more than a few stories with that same plot device. Unfortunately, this book's length is just a long novella/almost novel and has reaffirmed my conviction that I need to settle for books 200+ in length in order to really catch my attention.
It was just too, damn short.
I never had enough time to get to know the two characters. Oh, I'm certain we could have had a better relationship (that is, a characters-reader relationship) if we had far more to read. I can think of many different ways this novella could have gone. It had potential, but by the time I reached the end, I was left bereft of substance and... I wasted how much time for something so mediocre?? Arlo could had been interesting, but just like the instant-recognition of one's mate, that's how this book felt to me. Too little, too quickly, too late. I mean, it started off so well in terms of characterization of Arlo and Liv. I thought I might be convinced of my 200+ page requirement might be too strict based on the first few chapters, but not much later, everything accelerated way too quickly which did break my suspension of disbelief. Even the villain was too textbook, too predictable, therefore too disappointing despite the initial go at his psychotic personality.
That's it!! This whole book was exactly that! Predictable! Predictable!! Predictable!!!
Editing wasn't so horrible as most books have been in the past year. But whomever was helping should have caught the above problem right away. I would have taken the energy to write this book and switched it over to another project, making good use of said energy and enthusiasm. Everything was just too pat and too rapid to bring the story to a close. Even the world-crafting was blah because of lack of substance.
What really makes me scream is that I like the premise of the Bear Justice MC, a biker club of bear shifter vigilantes. This is a great idea! Why it had to fall on its ass is just a crying shame coming from me because I could really get into something like this. I wouldn't just write off the idea that once you find your mate, you have to quit. Yeah, I understand the logic behind that, but I've read other series in which that need not be the case, and it's made for even better, far more interesting reading. Besides, maintaining this idea would only bring the MC to a crashing end. As a writer, I'm only killing off a great MC if everyone decent goes away. Pointless.
Would I invest my time in reading the next one in the series. Nope. I checked the word count of Book #2, and it's only 122 pages! Even less than the stated page length of this one! Nah... I have a ton other books to read and way to many reviews to write, I'm so dreadfully behind...
If you HAVE to read it, do so on KU. I wouldn't buy it for its stated price. Sorry, but that's my personal opinion, and usually, I really to try and give a series a chance. Not this time.
Ruby Knoxx is a new-to-me author and if this first book of hers that I just finished is any indication, well, then I’ll be reading more of her titles. I’m tempted to dive in for a binge read of the releases in the ‘Bear Justice MC‘ right now – but reality rears its ugly head and I realize that I have too many other review obligations to indulge myself like that. But I’ll be working my way through this series rather quickly for I already definitely want to know what comes next for the members of this MC.
The action leaps off the page from the very start of ‘Sold to the Beast‘ as we experience Liv’s terror, anger, fear, and desperation at what’s happened to her – and at the hands of someone she should have been able to trust. Liv is a wolf shifter, and she’s been sold to a pharmaceutical company for experimentation… by her pack, by her brother. It doesn’t get much more terrifying than that… until it does.
Arlo is a member of the Bear Justice Motorcycle Club. A group/clan of bear shifter bikers who ride that narrow ribbon of space between vigilante and justice. He’s checking out a new case when the unexpected is revealed – an old enemy of his and the club has resurfaced and Arlo is in this job for the takedown, the money is beside the point. He never could have expected to find his mate at this facility or what he’d do to keep her safe.
‘Sold to the Beast‘ is full of action, intrigue, sizzling sexy chemistry, and a clan full of unique personalities. I was easily caught up in this world, yes there is a bit of worldbuilding but that’s to be expected in the first story of a series. Arlo and Liv worked well as a couple. The unease, the suspicions, the holding back on Liv’s part made perfect sense for what she’s gone through. Trust doesn’t always come easy, even when there is a ‘feeling’ about someone that you want to act on. There is the almost instant recognization of mates – yet, not completely accepted because both have their reasons for being cautious around and about other people for both have been used for the wrong reasons. I’d not call this insta-love, insta-lust sure, but the love takes just a smidge longer to acknowledge for them both. In any event, I enjoyed myself in this world and will definitely be following the series to the ending. I had fun, and that’s the whole point.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Borrowed From KINDLE UNLIMITED Title: Sold to the Beast Series: Bear Justice MC #1 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Ruby Knoxx Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre:#PRN #BearShifter #MC 5Stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ •••••••••••••• 💢 Ooooo what a book this is. I would think this should be ten stars or more best describes what this book should actually be. Definitely a Must Read!
🔹️ Liv is a WolfShifter, her pack, even her own brother sold her. Thrown into a cage with nothing. They are using her experimentally. Her life was nothing, until?
🔹️ Arlo is a BearShifter with the Bear Justice MC. He was given first choice on this assignment this mission. Of course he jumped out of it because he wanted Xander Rogan. Dead or Alive. He looked everywhere for him, finally found him. Let the games begin.
☄️ This review is my own opinion, this author is one that I love to read her books.
Brilliant read loved the characters if you like reading shifter books then you will enjoy this one. Arlo takes in a job to find Xander Rogan and find info on him for the IRS. Liv has been sold by her pack to be experimented on by scientists who want to be able to replicate the shifter gene and use it on a normal human to be able to use a weapon. Arlo finds Xander and he takes Arlo around the scientist compound where he sees Liv he has this automatic burger to hurt her and when Xander hits her Arlo snaps picks Liv up and runs from the compound. Xander finds them and a fight starts with Liv not being able to shift Arlo takes them on his own and wins but he is hurt he needs time to recover. Liv’s wolf comes back to her and they know they are mates and will never be apart again.
Forced proximity, shifter romance. While hired to find evidence, Arlo finds his mate Liv in a facility that is experimenting on shifters. Liv has to decide whether or not to trust the man who has rescued her. The back story and the characters were interesting. However, some parts of the story didn't add up. Despite the declaration of fated mates, Arlo seemed more interested in being her bodyguard than mate. He also made such a big deal throughout the book about his MC/pack being everything to him. Then he just leaves with Liv at the end of the story, and the pack don't make a fuss either, like its no big deal to move to a different state. Fav Quote: I trusted that he would make sure everything was alright. This was just a weird memory we would carry with us, though I would make sure that it would stay in Boise.
Sold to the Beast: Bear Justice MC Book 1 By Ruby Knoxx Kindle unlimited purchase Liv grew up with a loving mother and a younger brother that was her life. She knew that they were NOT related that they took her in off the streets. But she never thought they would SELL her. Arlo is a sweet man. He is on a mission. He is showed a female and knows he has to get her away from them one way are another. Sold to the Beast is a great read. But so you know before you get into the book... She is sold by her family to the beast and protected and rescued by Arlo. Normally I would not read MC romance but ii took a chance. I mean it's RK so I had to. And im so happy I did.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Good start to what should be an exciting series. The pack Liv spent fifteen years in, sell her to be experimented on. Arlo seeing her for the first time feels like she's his mate, but he's been wrong before. The story is very detailed with the H/h having to share of themselves before they can trust each other ( once you read about their past you'll understand). Exciting with HEA.
Liv is a wolf shifter. She was 10 years old when a pack of wolves took her in but she never really felt accepted. 15 years later, to her shock, she finds herself sold out by the same people that took her in. Worth, they sold her to a facility that was experimenting on shifters. She didn't know how long she was in there until she is rescued by a bear shifter. But was he friend or foe?
This was okay. It had excitement, action, hot steamy love scenes and some horror thrown in. Arlo is definitely a strong bear. I felt sad when Liv got sold by her adopted family. I hope Ty gets sold. I am just so glad that Arlo saved Liv from those monsters. I am also glad that Arlo gave Rogan what he deserved. Liv deserved a mate and she got a good one with Arlo. Thank you.
I believe this is the first book I have read by this author, and I have already bought the next 2 books that are available in this series. This story will rip your heart out, but no worries because you will be fully restored by the end. Mature eyes only due to hot 🔥 shifter loving!!!
I enjoyed this story. I loved the character biker. He was hard worker and always working on the right side . when he saw his mate in a cell his heart broke. I could feel his pain and anger. I felt as if I was running with them to safety. he was a true savior and I loved each book with a happy ending
If you like hot, alpha shifter romance then you will like this book. This was the first book I've read by this author, but I will definitely check out more of her books in the future.
This a good, well written story. Liv was an orphan who had not felt love or a real sense of belonging to a pack. Arlo belonged to a MC and did under the radar work for them. How they meet and their story is worth reading.
I found this book to be a bit ridiculous and unbelievable. I didn’t feel a connection between the main characters even though they were mates. There were also a few distracting typos. It was a quick read, though.
A great shifter romance! This story has a hard back story. A lab is stealing shifters and separating them from their animal. Can you imagine? Terrible. Deserve what they get - but on investigation, he finds ... her...
In the beginning it felt like i was dropped into the middle of an on going story, but it got better it was pretty good but the end was dumb not to get into it but a loner with connections sounds dumb.
A MC bear clan borderline mercenary work. A guy with revenge on his mind, but instead rescues a damsel in distress and finds his mate. Steamy sex scenes.
It’s not a bad book per se but it’s not great either. The entire story until the end just seemed kind of sad and downtrodden. Glad they got their HEA for now.
Sold to the Beast: A Bear Shifter Romance (Bear Justice MC Book 1) This is the first book in this series that I have read and enjoyed. The stories share characters in a the MC group, but each story is uniquely different. Well written, exciting and I look forward to new books by Ruby Knoxx.
