Completely implausible story about a sex slave who was abused, emotionally and physically practically her whole life and seemingly overnight is rescued by her knight in shining armor underground fighter boyfriend, leading to a quick and unencumbered HEA.
Nothing at all about how she would transition to a "normal" life after the trauma she suffered, the ptsd she obviously suffers from, repeated attempts at suicide, etc. No need to call the authorities either apparently, even though one of the people who tend to her is a nurse who has the legal and moral obligation to refer her to people who could actually help her AND prosecute the people who did this to her. But no, who cares that these despicable people got away with complete impunity and will continue to victimize other young girls with no fear of repercussions. That would just get in the way of the love story.
Apparently, a few cuddles in bed during her night terrors, a new haircut and a job, and she is completely functioning, no, even better, ready to fall in love and confront her past abusers without qualms. (LMAO at the fact that she gets a job and immediately takes to it, learning how to drive, work, etc, after being locked in a closet with no human interaction for years).

What a bittersweet story about finding Hope!!
This story although short packed a punch!!
It touched on addiction and how it affects those around you..
It showed us how even in the most darkest of times just a little HOPE can carry us through..
It proved to us how some use the negative and turn it into something beautiful and positive for themselves and those around them..

(My review is not in typical review format. I struggled to put my thoughts into a typical format but couldn't accurately convey what I wanted to say. Instead, I wrote my review in letter format to Ms. Camaron.)
Dear Ms. Camaron,
I've never read any of your books and I wonder why. Heath was...turbulence in writing.
I wonder if you knew the emotions it would generate when you wrote it. Did you know I'd cry over LoraLeigh's plight? Did you know I would understand how welcoming death would be? I wonder if you'd seen inside my head when you wrote this, because how else would you know how much of a blessing suicide would be to a person drowning in despair?
I can't claim to have ever walked in LoraLeigh's shoes. I wasn't born to an addict, wasn't used as payment for her debt or anyone else's. I don't know what it's like to be used like I'm nothing, like I don't matter because I really don't. By all accounts, my life was normal compared to hers. But the darkness you depicted in her... I understood that. I knew that.
And it was so frightening to see it on paper.
But I love your redemption plan. I love how you brought her to Heath when you did. The timing was perfect. At the time, it probably didn't seem like it to LoraLeigh, but hindsight is twenty-twenty, you know? He was strong enough to inflict damage on her like her former "protector" but he didn't. She wasn't the payment he wanted but she was the payment he accepted. His acceptance opened a door for something unexpected, and that turned out to be the best thing for both of them.
Watching LoraLeigh heal under Heath's fierce protectiveness, caring, and admiration made me smile even as I cried. The tears weren't out of sorrow this time. I cried because recovery is a beautiful thing to witness. Seeing someone come back from the brink of despair and destruction to step into a present and potential future filled with possibility... That's amazing. And you... You did her healing justice. Thank you for that.
I don't know if you'll read this, Ms. Camaron, but if you do I hope you know how much this story means to me. I've read stories that have touched my heart, some that have touched my soul. But this one resonates in both places. Thank you for this amazing story.

This is the second novella in the Roughnecks Shorts series. Each can be read as standalone and feature the men from the oil rigs.
Heath ‘Hitman’ Thomas (or Hotman as I call him!) works his days on the rigs but he also fights for cash. That is until he ‘wins’ Annie from his knockout fight, he was expecting cash but the forlorn woman turns up on his doorstep as payment.
Annie is really LoraLeigh but she has become this non person called Annie being passed from one man to the next as payment. She has lived a tragic life, that is, until Heath comes into her life and saves her.
This was a great short story and I liked this much better than Maverick, the first book in the series. There was a touching back story which highlights a reality that is happening to women of abuse.
I loved Heath with his hardman outer shell but his caring and sensitive side and the way he gave LoraLeigh back her self-worth. I would have loved for this to be a full length novel as the storyline was intense. A great addition to the series. Four stars

Heath works hard by day and fights hard by night. His day job pays the bills while his night job is money he uses to donate to a battered women shelter. He never realized his own home would house an abused woman until the night he finds LoraLeigh on his porch. Heath found himself in a situation he didn't want to fight...love.
This is a super short novella (even titled Roughneck shorts), but I wanted a bit more. I loved Maverick, but I felt myself missing something from Heath. There was good build-up and then there were some time jumps and it was over. With a bit more "meat" to the story this would have easily been a 4 star. I did overall enjoy what I did read and do look forward to reading Lance.

Heath
Abuse, in so many forms, physical, emotional, sexual are some that this story addresses so well. Heath helps support a center for abused women, and he meets an abused woman named LoriLeigh in a most unusual way. But both learn, develop, grow, trust, in each other. Beautiful message/ story.❤️

Loved it.
I was pulled straight into this story and stayed there until the end of the book.
There are some really but surprising coming to you in this story.
Chelsea Cameron has done a fantastic job with this series, Every time I finish one I want to go and start the next.

The storyline in this book was very strong and emotional. I must admit while I was turning those pages pretty fast, I really wish it had been a longer book.

Judging a Book by it's Cover:
The cover, in it's subdued watercolor-esque palette, is hard-pressed to catch and keep your attention. However, if it *does* manage to do so, you'll notice the few overlapping layers that are trying to co-exist. Synopsis reads much darker than MAVERICK was. With such a short story, I am curious how Ms. Camaron will convey all the necessary elements to create a rich and full story.
Looking Deeper:
Alternating first-person POVs in present tense, clearly defined and easy to follow. Heath works on the oil rigs as a derrick-man. He also participates in the underground fight circuit. LoraLeigh or "Annie" as she's first known, has been one person or another's property since fifteen when her mother's drug addiction spiraled out of control. From the drug cartel to other organized crime, she became an unwilling sex slave, used as payment to settle debts.
The prologue mostly concentrates on the beginning of her nightmarish life as a teen. The main body of the story focuses on present time, jumping to four months later. The epilogue concludes with a "one year later" caption, allowing for a pseudo time span to exist. Heath is a great character, very likable. After the "day one" incident at Heath's, LoraLeigh becomes a stronger character. She's more complex and developed, due to the perceived timeline we are given on her. The secondary characters play a minor role in this short story, with cameos from Mav and Kenzy. Lance was not mentioned or seen in this episode. There was a mostly natural feel to the dialogue and interaction. For being such a short and quick read, Ms Camaron managed to put together a strong plot with easy readability. There were plenty of conflicts along the way, but they were handled and managed well. There was not a lot of predictability and the conclusion was tight. It can stand alone, it does not need to be read in order. Makes for a nice, little, quick read.

Chelsea Camaron has delivered another gritty and emotional quick read that has you flipping the pages as fast as possible to see what the future holds for these characters! She delves into serious issues that may be hard to read for some, but the fact that she shows that you can overcome hardships and turn your life into something rewarding if you have faith and believe is extraordinary!
Heath works on the oil rig as a derrick-man with Maverick, but he also has another passion. He fights in an underground fight ring with lifelong friend Wendol as a way of giving back. Wendol owns a gym where he trains and together they anonymously support a local shelter for women. At one point in his life, he had a chance at the big times but it got ripped out of his grasp for a decision that he will never regret. No matter what she said, he did the right thing for her in that moment. After never being able to save Wendol's sister, taking care of women and making them feel safe and giving them a second chance at life has become a passion for Heath and Wendol.

Heath is book 2 in the Roughnecks short series. It was another intensely emotional ride from author Chelsea Camaron, and a bit different than what I expected was going to happen :)
We first met Heath in book 1 of he series, and now we get to hear his story. Heath works on the oil rig by day, and is an underground fighter by night. But the unique thing about Heath as a fighter is that he doesn't do it to make money for himself… no, he does it to make money for an amazing woman's shelter. When his opponent, Professor, loses to Heath "Hitman" in a fight, he owes him a good chunk of change, and Heath expected to be paid the money he was owed. What he did not expect was Professor to send a girl as his payment.
LoraLeigh grew up with a drug addict mother. When her mom passed away when LoraLeigh was a young girl, she was left with no family or friends to care for her. Being that her mom had a debt with her dealer, LoraLeigh was then sold off to repay her debt, and this began many years of being passed around from owner to owner. She suffered from abuse and was forced to perform sexual acts which she wanted nothing to do with. With no way out she many times contemplated, and even tried, suicide, but each time was "saved". When her last owner, Professor, loses a fight to Hitman, she is once again used to pay off a debt. What she didn't expect was to find her first bit of hope in a dark, dark world when she meets Heath and his friends.
The relationship that forms between LoraLeigh and Heath was absolutely heartwarming, and I LOVED it.

There were a couple things in the story that we a little hard to believe for me personally, which I found hard to get over. One was that Heath was talking to LoraLeigh about starting a job the day after she tried to take her life. I felt like this was rushing things a bit and that if someone just attempted suicide you would at least give them a little time to recover and become more comfortable with the situation they are in.
The second was that when Heath found her in the kitchen with her wrists slit and bleeding out, I would have figured he would have reacted a little differently. He didn't seem as freaked out about it as I would imagine someone would be….he actually seemed pretty calm considering.

With that being said, I felt Chelsea did a great job with the story and look forward to the next book in the series! I absolutely love these Roughneck men, and can't wait to get my next fix. I really wish these stories were a bit longer because you do become quite a bit attached to all the characters, and I would love to hear more about their stories BUT I think it's amazing how Chelsea has been able to make you feel so attached in such a short story!!!!!

Heath is the second in the Roughnecks series by Chelsea Camaron. It’s a fabulous short novella style series with Maverick being the first and Lance being the third. I was looking forward to reading Heath’s story after Maverick. He seemed to be cocky and witty but also extremely loyal. I have to say, I did enjoy Maverick a little more, it didn’t seem to have the intense need and was darker.
Heath “Hitman” Thomas had worked in construction until the economy went to hell and now works with Maverick on an oil rig. Every day he comes home exhausted, dirty and relieved to have made it through another day. Heath’s daily life consists of f@#king, fighting and working. He could have gone professional, but fate had other plans for him. Now he trains with his mate, Wendol and fights in the underground circuit whenever he needs to.
LoraLeigh Riffel or Annie as she’s known to her captors, is counting the days. Its 2188 days since her mother’s dealer sold LoraLeigh to the highest bidder. But she never knows when that will change again. LoraLeigh writes in a notebook each day as a reminder of where she’s been and to give her strength to survive another day.
“One day, I will be more than an item to be bought or sold, won or lost. One day, I will know what it is to be a human being.”
“Daily reminder: I will survive another day. I will find hope. One day, I will be free. One day, I will be me.”

As is the norm with Ms Camaron’s books, Heath was spectacularly written and so emotional. It wasn’t as sizzling as Maverick, but I am certainly looking forward to Lance’s story next.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Roughneck series about Heath ‘Hitman’ Thomas and LoraLeigh ‘Annie’ Raffel. I’m enjoying these short reads I have such a hard time putting them down. Chelsea has a way of sucking you in and holding you there page after page. I have to say I enjoyed Heath and LoraLeigh a little more than Maverick and Kenzy although both were good.
Heath is friends and works with Maverick on the rig. He is also an underground fighter but he doesn’t do this for himself he does it for the women’s shelter. However, when he fights and wins he expects to be paid in cash not Annie standing on his door step as payment. He wants cash not her; the center needs cash and Annie is not cash.
LoraLeigh ‘Annie’ was sold to an underground fighter when she was in her teens. Every time the fighter that had her was short on cash they would put her up as the bet. When they lost which they always did eventually she would go to a new owner. Now she was shipped off to Heath who didn’t want her and if he didn’t accept her as payment she was as good as dead although, in her mind that might not be so bad.
I love that even though Heath had his tough guy exterior he also had his soft caring side with LoraLeigh. He was always making sure she was okay and gave her the confidence she needed to want to survive. I loved the Epilogue short and sweet just like the rest of the book. I cannot wait for the next story to come out I’m addicted to these guys and I love Chelsea Camaron writing and how she pulls you in and it is so hard to come back to reality until you are done with the book.

I hope I can be the light to her dark, as she is my inner strength when I feel weak.

OMG !! I was super excited to read this novella since I fell in love with Mav in the other anthology Chelsea was in. Heath is a buddy and fell oil rigger friend of Mav. SO our boy Heath has some inner demons and well I expected a hottie little cocktail waitress to tame this beast. UHM YEAH NO!! That so did not happen. When I started to read "Annies" story I. WAS. A. HOT. MESS!! This girls life is sooooo tragic. I even messaged Chelsea and was like "What are you doing to me?? This journey is killing me!!!" Of course Chelsea was like "what? huh??" *Shakes finger* I will talk to you later about this young lady!!
Ok you wanna know Annie's story? Then read it because I cant even begin to get into the story and suffering she has endured since she was 15. TRAGIC and yet soooo true to life for some ladies *teary sigh* When Heath and Annie meet up it is under not normal circumstances. Heath is not so happy to be getting Annie and she is not happy to be gotten. Annie does alot of things before finally opening up to Heath about her truths...her life.
I loved the confrontation with Heath and the men from Annie's past. I loved the ending of the story. I cannot wait for more from these two and would love to have the story expanded upon because this novella could be sooo much more!!!

Melanie Kincaid is the daughter of a very wealthy man and considered a “trust fund baby” by many when she really couldn’t care less about her status. While attending a benefit, she bypasses the long line entering the women’s restroom, and along with another woman, makes her way into the men’s restroom. Little does she know, Royal, the woman she quickly befriends is the sister of the firefighter who is being honored at the night’s gala. While in the men’s restroom, she also meets another brother of Royal’s, Jameson. Jameson is a seventh generation fireman and very much taken.
During their first encounter, Melanie and Jameson instantly create their own sparks, despite the fact he has a girlfriend. Once Melanie becomes the face of the firehouse by working the front desk, will the spark continue to burn, or will it be extinguished? Can Jameson continue a friend relationship with Melanie when they both want more?
I enjoyed the witty beginning of Fall for Me, but as I read, it began to fall short for me. I didn’t experience the connection between the characters like I wanted, and the ending felt way too rushed for such a strong start. There were too many unanswered questions, too. I would love more character development in this story, as I did see the potential for it to be great.
I’m hoping for a continuation of Mel and Jameson’s story for those many questions to be answered because I really want to know.

What a great addition to what's shaping up to be a emotional and gritty series. This is the story of Heath ‘Hitman’ Thomas who we first met in Maverick. Heath is a oil rig worker who's also a fighter that donates his winnings to a battered women's shelter. LoraLeigh Riffel is a young women who grew up under devastating consequences from the time she was 15 years old. It's incredibly heartbreaking and intense, and LoraLeigh's emotions flies off the pages and tears out your heart. They are thrown together under circumstances that neither was anticipating. Fast paced, sensual and beautiful, this romance will tug at your heart, and play with your emotions. You will laugh, cry, throw a couple of things, but in the end the emotional toll it took on you will be completely worth it. This series and this story shredded my heart to pieces, and carefully and slowly put it back together again. For an author who can transport your mind directly to a scene, where you feel helplessness, intense heartache, and profound sadness, it’s an incredible feat. I don’t know how the written word can be so intoxicating that you forget what is going on around you. It’s just magical and this book was pure magic. I can't wait to see what's in store for the next book.

This story sucked me in from the first paragraph. My heart immediately went out to LoraLeigh, I found myself rooting for her from the start. Heath has a little bit of a struggle trying to decide which is the best way to help LoraLeigh, but once he makes the decision, he's in it for good.
There is a very real and under publicized issue that occurs throughout this book, for the author to shed some light on it shows amazing heart on her part. I love that in both the first book, maverick, and in this, the author has highlighted a growing, troubled topic and incorporated it into the storyline.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it is just as well written as the first book in the Roughneck series, if not even better. I cannot wait for the third book in the series.

Heath is a quick novella about roughneck Heath who works on the oil rigs with Mav from the first Book and who is also an underground fighter. There is a lot of money to be won in the underground but Heath doesn’t fight to win the money for himself and that in itself is the true story of the type of man Heath really is. He’s caring, compassionate, sweet and gentle with a rough side to him. Ultimate yumminess right there!
When Annie turns up on his doorstop as payment for a fight he won, he is disgusted and gutted, not at Annie but for what she has been through and for the men who have put her through that path of hell. Heath and his friend help her get her life back on track and Heath starts to notice his feelings for her around the same time she does.

I liked this book. It was short, to the point, emotional and had a super sweet ending. This book does touch subjects that can be triggers for some so read with warning.
This is Heath and LoraLeigh's story. LoraLeigh is a victim of human trafficking. She has been sold, used and abused for years now. It is all she knows and she has no way out. She is "content" where she is because she knows what to expect so when she is sold again, the fear comes back but this will be the best thing that ever happens to her.
Heath is a good ol boy who works out his demons in underground fighting. When he gets a girl for payment in a fight, he knows he has to help her. He also feels drawn to the girl who calls herself "Annie". As he gets to know her and spends time with her, he begins to fall in love. Can he conquer both of their demons and get a happy ending?
I liked Heath. He took a chance on LoraLeigh. While we did not get in depth with both of them I could feel their connection by the end. And LoraLeigh, she pulled at my heartstrings but she found healing and redemption with Heath. I can't wait for the next.

He also feels drawn to the girl who calls herself "Annie". As he gets to know her and spends time with her, he begins to fall in love. Can he conquer both of their demons and get a happy ending?
I liked Heath. He took a chance on LoraLeigh. While we did not get in depth with both of them I could feel their connection by the end. And LoraLeigh, she pulled at my heartstrings but she found healing and redemption with Heath. I can't wait for the next.

Heath is a friend of Maverick's from book one. Heath works on the oil rig but his real passion is underground fighting. Not for the money or attention but because the proceeds go towards a battered women shelter. This lets us see what a good man Heath is. One night his payment is not in money but an abused and wrecked woman. Lora Leigh has suffered through so much in her young life and yet she still finds it inside herself to survive. When offered as payment, Lora Leigh is resigned to yet another man taking advantage of her. She never counted on Heath being the exception. Heath wanted to help Lora Leigh to regain all that she had lost and set her free. Heath soon realized how hard it would be to let her go and since Lora Leigh had finally found the place she belonged she did not want to leave Heath either. This was a story about second chances and trusting others. Lora Leigh's heart breaking story seemed so genuine and had me in tears from the beginning. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a genuine romance.

I was pulled right into this short story. The story has laughs, betrayal, pain, and heartbreak.
This is LoraLeigh and Heath’s story. Heath won a fight but what he didn’t know was that LoraLeigh would be his payment. What he needs is money not a woman. But after she finally opens up and tells him her story he wonders if he can help her heal and be free. LoraLeigh wonders if she will be offered up as payment again. Can she survive that again? Can she do something to change that outcome? She will do whatever she has too. The more time they spend together the more they are drawn to each other. Heath would do anything for LoraLeigh. Will she believe that can learn to love him when she never had love in her life before?
I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I just needed more of the story. I wish the story was longer.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.
