The only thing Alabama Love wanted was to provide a safe home for her son, Wyoming, away from her abusive husband. When she landed in Eagle Rock, Montana, she thought just maybe, she might have found the perfect place to start her life over and give her son the kind of future he deserves. But sometimes the past has a tendency of catching up to the present. And in her case, the past could prove to be a deadly future. Only one thing really matters in Wayne “Dakota” Newark’s life, and that’s family. When his wife passed away from breast cancer, he left the military and joined the Brotherhood Protectors in order to provide a more stable life for his two little girls. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his kids. But when his nanny quits, he finds himself having to trust a woman he doesn’t know and that doesn’t settle right in his gut. All in the name of protecting his family, he does some digging into Alabama’s past. Unfortunately, his prying into her background disturbs a hornet’s nest that has the potential to destroy both their worlds. And now he’s tangled up with a woman who has not only stolen the hearts of his precious girls but has taken his hostage and now he wants to spend the rest of his life protecting her and her young son. That is if he can keep them all alive.

This story is a possible trigger for abuse. It’s a great story about love and finally overcoming things from your past. Alabama and Dakota take a bit to finally come together. There are some things in here that are hard to read, but it’s handled well. Nice epilogues and HEA.
This was such a great story, I enjoyed it all and the ending was perfectly suited to the couple and their HEA. I also really enjoyed their names and the explanations behind them – unique. *Quick warning – there were possible trigger situations as some of this story was not a light read. It was one small section and short, but detailed. Since the book revolves around an abused wife on the run and hiding from her husband, with their small child, there are overlays of emotional reactions to confrontations and physical contact in relation to her memories of abuse and how much she has changed due to the circumstances she escaped but only one detailed section when her past catches up.
From reading this story you can tell the amount of time and effort put into details, explanations, connections, emotional musings, relationship struggles…all of it was handled with great care. The character depth and emotional reactions were well thought out and there was just the right amount of humor and fun to balance out the drama and emotional heaviness of the book.
Dakota’s character was fascinating to me and seriously tugged at the heartstrings for being such a wonderful and caring single father rearranging his life and priorities to put his daughters first in every aspect. Leaving his military career behind, he came home to be with his wife while she was battling breast cancer and after her loss he took a job with the Brotherhood Protectors to give his young girls a more stable life with his constant support and love. You could really feel the wonderful bond between the three of them and the devotion he gave them as a single dad. The girls were wise beyond their young years and extremely well-mannered and their conversations and reactions made a great addition to the story. Dakota also had a slightly gruff take-charge attitude (not in a bad way but in a protective way, this is best and you can be mad at me later kind of attitude) yet it was balanced out with a quiet strength and determination as well as patience and kindness.
Alabama was a mess of contradictions but given the circumstances she was facing, it was understandable. Suffering in an abusive relationship, on the run, and hiding while trying to care for her young son was a pretty big challenge yet she pushed through and did the best she could to ensure their safety and survival. She was always looking over her shoulder, afraid to let her guard down, untrusting of everyone, always looking for an ulterior motive from others' actions and constantly nervous and scared. The confidence she had in herself and her life was destroyed during her abusive marriage yet as she became more settled in the newest stage of her life with her surroundings and her new job, as Dakota’s nanny, you could see reflections of her old self emerging. Little Wyoming, her son, was charming and the interactions that he had with Dakota were so sweet (total aww moments). And the snippets of all of them together made a great family setting.
I also thought the forming and timing of the relationship between Dakota and Alabama was done really well. There was always an attraction simmering between them but with both their circumstances (him still grieving for his late wife and her on the run and scared) they did not immediately jump on it. It was a slow simmer; they took time to get to know each other, really put thought into it and how it would affect the dynamics of their living/working arrangement as well as how it would affect their children and even then it was slow and gentle (fitting of the circumstances surrounding Alabama with her abuse).
The entire story was sweet with well-balanced drama, suspense, action, wonderful characters, and a great HEA.
*I received an arc from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Wonderful story about two people, Alabama Love has an ex abusive husband and she's trying to find a good life for her and her son. Dakota lost his wife to breast cancer and had to leave the military to take care of his daughters. When he fires his nanny he hires Alabama, but when he probes her background he causes problems for her. Lots of action, trust issues and new love. Love the kids.
Saving Love: Brotherhood Protectors World; Book 1 is by Jen Talty. This book is about abusers and their victims. Alabama Love has come to the Broken Spur Ranch to rent a small cabin from the owner. Then she plans to find work in the small Montana town. Here, she hopes she and her son, Wyoming, can stay and not be found for a while. She doesn’t completely trust the owner, Dakota Newark yet. However, maybe he can help her find a job. Alabama is on the run from her husband who is abusive. She had just barely gotten away after he put her in the hospital after causing their son to be born a month early. Luckily, Wyoming was really healthy. As Alabama approaches the house to ask Dakota for help finding a job, his babysitter comes out of the house yelling at him for daring to fire her and then to accuse her of stealing from him. Candace is furious but Dakota only shows the same even temperament he always shows. However, he isn’t going to rehire her as his girls come first. When he realizes he needs a sitter, he approaches Alabama to move into the ranch house and keep his girls and his house. It would solve the immediate problem. Then he could see about seeing why she is hiding out here and help her. Obviously, she can’t stay if she is going to bring harm to his girls.
Alabama needs a job to support her son, this last interview hadn't worked out for her either. With no real experience she was having a difficult time finding anything. She was fortunate to have this tiny house on Dakota Newark's Broken Spur Ranch and he had offered to help her find a position. Now she was going to have to talk to him about that. While deciding whether to wait for the nanny Candice to leave, she's witness to said nanny being fired.
Dakota is immediately faced with a dilemma of being in two places at the same time and Alabama steps up to solve that problem for him. This leads him to hire her as his nanny, it also brings into question how deep to look into her background since he's pretty sure she's running from something or someone.
Things get pretty intense as Candice with her boyfriend start harassing Alabama. However it's her boyfriend's family that concerns Dakota and the Brotherhood Protectors the most.
This is a quick read because you won't be able to put it down. There are plenty of twists in this tale along with action and some frustration. All that and some laughter, tears and a simmer to sizzle romance.
I love seeing the Brotherhood Protectors and the new additions to the crew. I have to go back now and read the others Jen Talty has written in this world.
A tragic story of abuse turned around to an awesome story of protection and love. Alabama Love, with her son Wyoming, was running from an abusive marriage and didn't trust any man. Wayne "Dakota" Newark was a single father of two precocious little girls. He hired her as a nanny. Their chemistry was hot, but Alabama didn't trust fully trust him. At the first sign of trouble, she wanted to run. Dakota wanted to protect her and convinced her to stay. A plot filled with tragedy, acceptance, pain, and love. The characters were wonderfully developed and believable. I highly recommend it.
This is wonderful book that starts a whole new series by the very talented Jen Talty and to make things even better it is positioned in the Brotherhood Protector world so as far as I am concerned that makes this a win win situation as I love both this author and this world
Alabama Love is fed up of running with her son Wyoming but she knows that if she stops running her ex husband Josh will catch up to her and not only take her son but probably kill her. The underground system she has been using to keep her one step ahead of him as sent her to Eagle Rock Montana and Wayne "Dakota" Newark. Dakota has recently retired from the military so he can raise his daughters Sky and River after the death of their mother to breast cancer. He is also doing some work for the brotherhood protectors. When he is forced to fire his nanny he offers the job to Alabama but not until he has does a check on her A check that brings her ex husband to her doorstep Now he will have to protect her and the children and at the same time he is starting to fall in love with his new nanny. Can he keep them all safe or will he end up losing his new love in a final showdown with her past.
My rating 3 stars. I wasn’t blown over with the first book of this series … I thought the ending was a little rushed … and sugar sweet! I wanted to see a little bit more justice melted out to the villain. I just couldn’t see Candice being a hero, and tidying up the second sub plot! Sorry … that didn’t work for me, plus the pregnancy notice! Nope … too much like a soap opera playing around in my head!!

I’ve only read a few books from the Brotherhood Protection World but I think this one was my favorite. The plot was extremely interesting and I felt this author was very respectful of marital abuse while still making it a major storyline. I absolutely fell in love with Dakota and Alabama and the kid’s were great also and I loved their names.
This book was good from the beginning to the end. It was never boring kept me interested to the last page. All of the characters were interesting. The girls were serious and funny. I love the names and Dakota all alpha and all protective male. Wyoming calling him Dada for the first time was special and very touching. Yes I would recommend this book.
Alabama met Dakota when a man from the underground (an abused spouse organization) sent her to Montana. She rented a house from him. When the girl who had been taking care of his kids stole some things, Dakota turned to Alabama as a new nanny. Then the feelings they both had became known.
Saving Love: Interesting story! I loved the suspense and surprises. Fantastic writing and romance . I like how each brotherhood protection is different in many ways. That's what keeps them exciting.
I really enjoyed the suspense in this book. The author did a great job of building up both the relationship between the characters and the conflict and history of the main characters. It was lovely to watch Alabama and Dakota find the HEA.
While it's a really good story with some great characters and suspense, I was hoping for a more violent finish. A permanent one. It does have some heat along with some very believable sub-characters that gives it a real feel.
I loved getting this chance to see the Brotherhood Protectors from yet another angle. Dakota is what I love to see in my “military” heroes: devoted, caring, and an alpha protector. I am thoroughly impressed with the care and detail that went into crafting Alabama’s character; she’s a successful survivor. She’s neither as timid as a mouse nor is she as brave as a lion. She walks a fine line between the two, often veering to one side or the other. And the amount of chaos that gets suddenly introduced into their lives mean she does a lot of course-correcting. I got such a kick out of the names in this story, though for a while I was giving my reader a healthy side-eye until the explanations came out. The children in this book are true charmers; utterly precocious and their parents have my sympathies when they reach the teen years. I can’t wait to read more about this branch of the Brotherhood Protectors. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Alabama Love, escapes with her young son Wyoming, from her high profile and abusive husband. The people who helped her escape have sent her to Eagle Rock, home of the Brotherhood Protectors. Finding a place to rent at Wayne “Dakota” Newark’s home has given her a chance to breathe after moving from place to place for the past year. Dakota works for Hank Patterson and is raising his two little girls, Sky and River, after the death of his wife. As little by little he falls under the spell of Alabama and her son, he promises to help her gain her freedom. Alabama slowly begins to place her trust in Dakota while falling in love with him and his girls. When the expected danger comes calling, will Dakota and the Brotherhood Protectors be able to finally offer her a chance for safety for her and her son? A story that will make you sigh and believe in a second chance at love. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
I received this book as part of an ARC review. Alabama was on the run from her abusive husband. The last person she had contact with in the underground directed her to Dakota's doorstep. Dakota recognized the signs of a woman on the run from both his late wife and her work. He wanted to help her. Dakota, despite his planning not to fall for another woman, fell for Alabama. He slowly gained her trust and they got together. I liked how Alabama's name was gotten and how both her and Wyoming's name fit in perfectly with Dakota's family. Unfortunately Josh, her husband, found her and planned to take Wyoming and to kill her. Alabama found her inner strength and stood up to him protecting all three children until help could arrive. Finally Josh goes down and Alabama is free to live her life. When Dakota proposes, Alabama accepts they become a family of five with a pleasant surprise on the way. It is a very nice start to a new series. I look forward to more.
