One of just a handful of serious academic books about Christian Science -- and the best. The author was a member of the church, but he was also a rigorous scholar who could locate the faith within the history of American thought. The rare book on this subject that's free of uninformed vitriol or slavish devotion.

Actually reading this book for reference. Christian Science was a booming sect in 1910 when my grandmother joined the 1st Church in Berkeley. I'm using this as a companion to Mark Twain's work on the same phenomenon.
