Spot loves winter. He especially loves snow days! See Spot build a snowman with Mom and Dad, throw snowballs with Grandpa, and go skating with his friends in this delightful board book that's full of winter activities for the whole family.
Eric Gordon Hill OBE was a popular author and illustrator of children's picture books, best known for his character Spot the Dog. His works have been widely praised for their contributions to child literacy. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
I think this book perfectly summarizes what it means to be a Spot book. Spot discovers the whimsy of having a snowy day with friends and a bright setting, and by the end, he's surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. This is definitely one of my favorites yet.
You gotta love Spot. The concepts and illustrations are simple but good for talking to your little one as you go. Of course, I am assuming that you would be reading this book to a very young child. If, however, you are reading for your own personal edification, then just go ahead and enjoy those illustrations all by yourself. They are still fun.
This is a nice, warm story, as are all of Eric Hill's picture books about the dog Spot. I like the way that this book presents this one nice winter day as sort of a series of affectionate snapshots of the day's action.
This simply written books depicts a puppy who is eager to enjoy the snowy weather with his family. It can be used to learn about the winter season as well as be used as a simple read for emergent readers.
These Spot books are story telling at the simplest. I usually take them out for William now, but this one I got for Natalie because it was S week. This is a good choice for S words since it has about two per page. Not much in terms of plot, but it does cover things to do in the snow.
