He would stop at nothing, burn down the world—whatever it took—to remove the obstacles between them until he called her his for good.

The much awaited conclusion to Brea and One-Mile's story is finally here and it was fantastic! One Mile has been a character that I've been salivating since he first made an appearance as a secondary character. Admittedly, Brea wasn't a character that hit my radar with her overload of sweet innocence. Then I read Wicked Ever After (One-Mile and Brea, part two) and I realized there may be something more to Brea then meets the eye at first.

Two things happened in this book:
1. Brea seriously grew on me
2. I decided I no longer want Cutter to get hit by a bus

Now look, if you've read the first book of this duet, then you know why I say that. I hated Cutter and his treatment of One Mile. He was an a-hole with a capital A. Luckily in this book he finally begins to see beyond the first impression he had of One Mile.

Break finally grows a backbone. She really comes into her own in this book and I loved watching this happen. I loved the way that she found her voice and learned to speak what she wants and go after it.

I love Brea and One Mile together. The man is utterly obsessed with her. He's crude and rude but he worships the ground his woman walks on and then talks dirty to her behind closed doors. Swoon!

There's plenty of action mixed into this to really spice things up. I particularly loved the way that things get resolved at the end. Admittedly my only quibble with the story is that it just didn't grab me as much as the first book. I was a bit bored in parts and found myself skimming a bit. Ultimately this was still a fantastic conclusion to one of my most anticipated books and I highly recommend if you're looking for something steamy with an uber alpha and plenty of action.

The conclusion to Brea and One-Mile's story is finally here and I couldn't be happier with the way things went. This was one heck of a roller-coaster ride but I honestly didn't want it to end.

They say oil and water don't mix because they are opposites but man when it comes to One-Mile and Brea that saying doesn't hold true because these two are complete opposites but they are perfect together, almost as if they were made to fit together like a puzzle piece.

3.5 but probably more like 4 Stars!!

You guys ... there's not enough Xanax in the prescription for the likes of this story LOL And when I say story I mean the entire duet! ... I need a minute. Stay tuned!

Okay, so I’ve had a minute to think and honestly, this is a really great story, but for me, as a reader, this second half of the story wasn’t as edge of your seat as the first part so it just … I dunno how to put it lol. It didn’t let me down but I wasn’t riding the high I was riding when I first started this duet….do with that riddle of words as you will!

Overall, I enjoyed reading Brea and Pierce’s story very much. I’ve been a fan of these wolds for a long time and I loved being back in them. They are likeable characters you will root for. Their story is passionate and not always what you expect! Excellent read all around!

After enjoying the first part of Brea and One-Mile’s story, I was eager to dive into Wicked Ever After. I had high hopes of how their story would come together, and I was not disappointed.

Although the main storyline of this one I saw coming early in the first book, it did not take away my enjoyment of this one. There was plenty of drama and action to keep me turning the pages, and once I started I was happy to devour the story in a single sitting.

With this one, there was some aspects of the book that left me wishing I had read other books by the author first. It was not enough to take away my enjoyment, but I certainly feel some aspects of the story will be most enjoyed by people who have read the connected stories. I’d already planned to read more, but the things I got to see in this one left me even more curious.

The only I wasn’t crazy about was the way certain elements of the suspense storyline were left hanging to be continued in the future books in the series. I expected the storyline to be closed in this duet, and as eager as I am to continue, I do wish it had been made obvious beforehand that the overall storyline would not be closed in the duet.

All in all, a great conclusion to Brea and One-Mile’s story, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series brings.

Wicked Ever After is the second and final part of One-Mile and Brea's story written by Shayla Black. One thing I want to say is that if you haven't read Cutter's book (Devoted to pleasure) you will get very very spoiled about what is happening there. The timelines of these two books overlap we got tons of details about the important events of that book. I have read DTP and I already knew some of the stuff that happened in this one.

The thing I liked the most about this book is that Brea grew some balls and stopped been the little girl who was overprotected by her father and best friend. She was a cool lady and I liked how she handled everything that was on her plate.

I didn't like the way many people treated One Mile. He did nothing to deserve the dislike, to put it mildly especially from Cutter. It was obvious even from the previous book that he cared a lot about Brea and that he would do anything to protect her.

I don't want to say anything else because I might spoil something and both characters have a lot going on in their lives and things were not easy for the two of them. I loved these two together and I loved their story. I would recommend both books without hesitation.

The conclusion to Pierce/One-Mile and Brea's story thankfully we didn't have to wait long. We start book two where we left off with an admisson from One-Mile that shakes Brea's faith that he is the man for her. There were some things I really liked, Brea's personal growth the way she finds her voice and finally she stands up for herself made me feel slightly proud. I hated the judgemental way they treated One-Mile and struggled to see the good intentions he had. The danger from book one is still present and so is the suspense and danger which will carry on to the next book.

With high flying emotions and steamy passion, the second half of this duet delivers a wicked ride.

We pick up right where book one left off. Pierce "One-Mile" Walker just confessed a life changing event leaving Brea Bell in turmoil where she only moments before had been living on a cloud of happiness. With no time to talk or even time to come to grips with her feelings she is left in confusion for a man that has stolen her heart and no one to really talk to.

Their so-called relationship up to this point has been in secret. Her best friend, Cutter Bryant, severely dislikes Pierce and her father has never met the man, but would most likely disapprove of how they have been sneaking around given he is a pastor. On top of her confusion Brea is hit with a bombshell while Pierce is away, she discovers she is pregnant, a sin in the eyes of God. She Struggles with her feelings of disappointing her father, her best friend, the small town she resides in, and lastly is Pierce going to be man she needs in the face of everything. All of these things matter greatly to Brea and coming to a solution that doesn't throw her world into a tailspin, seems almost impossible.

While Pierce is away he comes face to face with the drug lord who held him hostage and beat him within an inch of his life on his last mission. Knowing the drug lord will go after everything One-Mile holds dear, and since he has no family, the only thing close is Brea, he does the only thing he can do, once he returns he sets her free. He hates keeping her at arms length, but it's for her own protection. However, when Brea announces to the world that she's marrying Cutter Bryant One-Mile decides he's done waiting for the drug lord to come to him, he's taking out the man himself. On one, and he means no one, takes what's his especially Cutter Bryant.

Wicked Ever After is a roller coaster ride. I loved watching Brea mature with those around her, growing in her self-esteem and strength. It's very empowering to witness. I also enjoyed how One-Mile softened not only for her, but those around her. They both became their best selves because they had each other. This is what makes a story worth reading.

5 Star review of Wicked Ever After (Wicked & Devoted #2) by Shayla Black

AUDIO REVIEW:
This is the conclusion to Pierce “One-Mile” Walker and Brea Bell’s story and it was everything I hoped for and so much more. Like the first book, Wicked Ever After has a lot going on and although not a particularly long book, Ms. Black certainly packed a lot into it.

This book was hot, steamy, gripping and suspenseful. In fact there were times that I was on the edge of my seat as the action heated up. Not only was the suspense riveting but at times it was intense and emotional as danger again reared it’s ugly head.

The narration by Troy Duran brought this story to life for me. His voices is easy to listen to and he did justice to the characters and the story that Shayla Black wove.

I was fully invested in this story from the first to the last chapter. All in all this was a captivating read with strong writing and characters that you cannot help but relate too,in fact even Cutter grew on me. I cannot wait for the next book in the series as from the final chapter, it sounds intriguing.

Wicked Ever After (One-Mile and Brea, part two) (Wicked & Devoted #2) by Shayla Black
5 stars
M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This story picks up right where book 1 leaves off. Brea is the town sweetheart. Everyone trusts her and knows that she's the preacher's daughter. When Brea's dad has a medical issue, she doesn't hesitate to pick up the slack where she is needed for her congregation. She is also a hairstylist and when she goes to work, she knows that people respect her. Brea has always followed the rules, until she meets Pierce.

Pierce is not a rule follower. He knows where his skills are and uses them to the best of his ability.
When he meets Brea, he's immediately intrigued. But, with teammates warning him away from her, he isn't sure if he should pursue. When circumstances bring her to his door, he isn't going to ignore the chemistry.

Brea and Pierce are at a crossroads. Pierce knows that he'll do whatever it takes to make sure that Brea is safe and Brea knows that she loves Pierce. However, with Pierce's future up in the air and his safety in jeopardy, Brea is worried that she'll never see him again. Also, with the disapproval of her dad, can Brea choose between the two men in her life?

This is a fast paced story that will keep you turning pages. You'll want to see what happens next. Also, with the setup of the next story, I can't wait to see what happens next.

This book picks up where book 1 ended and it is fast-paced and doesn't slow down until the end.
Pierce "One-Mile" Walker and Brea Bell are two people that are made for each other. The saying that opposites attract is so true with these two. One-Mile goes after the leader of the drug cartel and leaves Brea alone and scared. She has a secret of her that she hasn't told him about. But Cutter is there to save the day and keep her safe.
Can she forgive Pierce for walking away? Can Pierce accept her after he learns her secret? Will Pierce let Cutter steal his future away from him? Will Brea's father accept Pierce as the man for his daughter?
I really enjoyed this duo, it is fast-paced, steamy, sexy and suspenseful. Author Shayla Black has a way of intertwining her series to make them even more and when you read them you remember all the others that you have read. So pick this series up, even if you haven't read the others yet, just read her stories and enjoy them. I can not wait for Zy and Tessa's story next.

Wicked Ever After by Shayla Black is One-Mile and Brea, Part Two, Book 2 in the Wicked & Devoted series. This continues Pierce (One-Mile )Walker and Brea Bell's story.
Book 2 picks up right where Book 1 left off which was Walker leaving Brea to go on a mission. From there, book 2 is full of feels, angst, twists, turns, steam, action, suspense, intrigue, friendship, family, raw and gritty emotions, romance and love. Without giving anything away, just know it's Shayla Black magic, you get the emotional rollercoaster ride and that electrifying magic between Walker and Brea. There are nasty villains and moments that had me on the edge all the way til quite the very end...just know it was quite the fantastic story. I can't wait for book 3 and the next couple !!!

When an enemy from Pierce’s past resurfaces he face the fact that the only way to keep Brie safe is to ensure that she isn’t in his life but when she makes a bold move of her own he decides that the only recourse he has is to eliminate the threat against them.

In the past Brie has always done what she was expected to do so when she receives some surprising news, she turns to her best friend Cutter. Their plans to handle the situation sets in motion a chain reaction as Pierce will do whatever is necessary to reclaim the woman he loves.

The chemistry between Brie and Pierce is hotter than ever, the suspense continues and seeing how Pierce made Brie stronger and how she makes him feel shows how they couldn’t be a better match.

I dove into this book right after reading part 1 of Brea and Pierce's story--such the emotional rollercoaster!--knowing that Ms. Black wouldn't leave me hanging for more twists, turns, and emotions in part 2. I was definitely not wrong. Things get crazy for the couple in their second half, with them walking a minefield through a lot of dangerous obstacles--most notably, the politics of Brea's small town peers, and the threat from a mobster with a serious jones for vengeance on Pierce. In the meantime, they're racing a merciless ticking clock while struggling to let their love grow into a sustaining relationship.
As is the case with all Shayla Black reads, the balance between external and internal conflicts is seamless, sublime, and riveting--and anchored with characters that are well-developed and wonderful. Still loving the cameos from previous stories, and seeing how everyone's lives are moving along too! Such a rich, romantic, and terrific fictional world to journey into, time and time again.
A wild, wicked, and wonderful ride of a read. I'm addicted to Shayla Black's colorful characters and sexy as hell stories!

My heart is still pounding after just finishing Wicked Ever After (Ten-Mile and Brea, Part Two) by Shayla Black. Such an exciting adventure! Such a super hot love story! I was thrilled to see Ten-Mile /Pierce and Brea get their Happily Ever After. I know at first Ten-Mile didn't seem like such a likeable character when Ms. Black first introduced him, too cold and rough, but he sure has shown his true colors in this duet. He loves deeply and forever. Brea Bell starts out as the consummate good girl, preacher's daughter. Boy has her character developed. I admire her strength, especially with Pierce's dangerous job and yet she is still the person she grew up as. This new series has started off with a bang and I greatly look forward to Shayla Black's next story in the series!

Pierce had to leave Brea behind so he can keep her safe. Unfortunately everyone is afraid for his safety. Going alone after the man who almost killed him is very dangerous. Poor Brea also had to face the gossip wagon without him.

It's nice to see Brea become her own woman. This series makes you fall in love with all the characters. If you haven’t read the previous series you definitely must.

This one was a bit better than the first, but fairly predictable. The most interesting thing for me was the talk that Pierce had with Brea's father at the end. He was brutally honest about the type of man he was, his past and above all else, his love for Brea.

Oooh I'm waiting for this one since forever. One-Mile and Brea 's relationship getting better and better, love that they're grown from all the madness and drama, but still find happiness with each other, I just adore these characters. There's still the angst and drama and actions but with plenty of love, I wished there's a conclusion to the big mystery that happening in the first book though(I think it will continue to the next series) and there are some parts that kinda dragging for me, this one is more on the sweet side than the previous one, but still it's entertaining and I enjoyed it nonetheless.

If you love gritty wicked suspense read, I think you'll love this series too.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, and follows on directly from Wicked as Sin, so you do need to have read that to fully enjoy this story. And you are in for a great treat!

We know going in that Brea and Pierce are it for each other ... but now One Mile (Pierce) has some outstanding business with a drug lord which needs to be resolved before they can be together. This dilemma leads to a complicated story which does a great job of mixing Brea's sheltered, limited life with the wild and complex work life of One Mile. Right now it is very dangerous indeed, with a threat against EM family members too.

Really not used to relationships, or the importance of good communication with anyone, Pierce is inevitably mucking things up - but he is absolutely focussed on getting his woman and accepting he deserves an HEA ... it is a complicated, tense journey, and we get to experience it from both his and Brea's side.

I think what I love most of all about these two books is how Brea switches to such a sexy siren as soon as she is with Pierce - it is so beautifully written, so fabulously hot, loving and passionate!

Another big hit for me, and the promise of much more goodness to come ... as well as getting closer to discovering who is the mole.

i loved the first book. brea wasn't too limited by the conservativeness of her father or town, she didn't let the thought of their disapproval stand in her way, and i had a lot of respect for her because of that.
however, in this second book most of the plot revolves around the fact that she holds herself back out of fear of what others will say, and i couldn't help but think "why oh why doesn't she just move?". but whatever, i get it, she likes the town in spite of their absolute disapproval of anything that doesn't fit into their very narrow definition of propriety (i lied, i actually don't get it - her father treats her like a child, and she can't be seen having a conversation with a man from out of town without fearing the ruin of her reputation and business!).
i know i could've read on and most probably seen her flourish and become her own person but since im 99% sure the book won't end in brea realizing the absurdity of conforming to the town's ridiculous standards and her moving to a bigger town and maybe dyeing her hair neon pink just for the hell of it, im just not interested in finishing it. and yeah, that might be just how it ends, and im missing out by not continuing but i can't handle reading even one more page about this town and her fears without throwing my kindle against the wall in exasperation.

This review covers book 1 (Wicked as sin) and book 2 of the One-Mile and Brea story.

And this concludes the story of One-Mile and Brea. While I liked the first book and the innocence of Brea was endearing, in this book she annoyed me majorly. What I really didn’t like was the fact, that whenever someone said “One-Mile raped you” (and at one point you had the feeling everyone thought so) she did not set the record straight. She hedged and tried to change the subject and she made him look guilty. Rape is very serious and the fact that everyone thought he did it or at least coerced her to have sex with him was a theme in both books that I really hated and what lead to the low rating. On the other hand, if everyone thought so, why did they not get her help?

In general, the smut was strong in both books but very vanilla. I liked One-Mile’s character. The more I read the more I hated Brea. I also despised her best friend Cutter. The setting in a small American town was described accurately but (lots of bits in this review) I found her “fall” from being seen as the Virgin Mary to a pregnant unmarried woman very soft. People are not that nice in little towns.

This is one of the worst books I’ve ever try to read. It’s the second book in a”duet” and unfortunately, I didn’t realize I would have to read a second book in order to get the ending for the first book. Even so, I hesitated starting this one because the first was so bad. I wanted to strangle main female character all the way through book one, and now I’m rooting for the drug dealer to get her because she’s so unbelievably stupid and annoying. The sad part is, the plot has a lot of potential but the execution is ridiculous. The hero thinks a drug dealer may go after his girlfriend, but he doesn’t warn her, or anyone in his security company, or have anyone watching her? Seriously? He watches her Facebook page for signs of trouble? He tells her something happened and he can’t see her for a while and she doesn’t hear that she hears “I don’t want to see you any more”? Please spare yourself from losing brain cells with this nonsense and skip those book.

Wicked Ever After is a story that continues right after Wicked As Sin and I have to say that I really enjoyed seeing these two together and seeing more depths to their relationship. I highly recommend that you read the first book "Wicked as Sin" before you read this book because I am telling you that you will be LOST because there are many things that happen in book one that you need to be aware of before reading this one. And while I enjoyed this one I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as I did the first book. I think that is mostly because there was more going on outside of the relationship and not as much "romance focus" as what we got in the first book and I wanted to see more page time with Pierce and Brea.

Wicked Ever After begins with our hero Pierce, who has had to leave his girl to fight off the enemy, an enemy that wants to destroy everything he cares about and most especially Brea. And in order to protect her and everyone else they care about, he must go on this mission, and it's one he probably won't come back from. But he has an enemy, one that will stop at nothing to destroy him and all he holds dear. He is a protector, and won't bring a firestorm to Brea and her family's doorstep if he can put a stop to it. But things don't go quite as planned, he will be betrayed, and he will see the depths of evil to his enemy. But what keeps him going is his Brea. But Brea will be his guiding strength in the worst of times, and when the time comes, he will fight for her and the future he has risked his life for.

Wicked Ever After is a story that is so action-packed and I loved seeing how this author handled this all. I was so intrigued to see where this author would take this couple and what they would accomplish together. There is a lot that happens outside of the relationship, but seeing what both of them are willing to sacrifice for each other was so beautiful. I really liked seeing them learn to adapt to each other, change and grow both individually and together as a couple. Their story is beautiful and seeing them defy what society says to find a way to be together. Truly an inspiring read of acceptance, forgiveness, healing and a fierce love.

WICKED EVER AFTER: One Mile and Brea is the second instalment is the second instalment in Shayla Black’s contemporary, adult WICKED AND DEVOTED erotic, romance merging of the Wicked Lovers, and Devoted Lovers series. WICKED EVER AFTER should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book one WICKED AS SIN. Wicked as Sin, and Wicked ever After run parallel to and cross over with the author’s Devoted to Pleasure (Devoted Lovers #1)

Told from dual third person perspectives (Pierce and Brea) WICKED EVER AFTER continues to follow the struggling relationship between US military sniper Pierce ’One-Mile’ Walker, and preacher’s daughter /hair stylist Brea Bell. Pierce Walker works for EM Security Management but struggles with an assignment that went all to h*ll. Desperate for vengeance, Pierce will leave a heart broken Brea behind when he goes in search of Montilla, the head of the Mexican Cartel and the man who destroyed his life but all is not well within EM Security Management when a mole is suspected among one of their own. Meanwhile Brea Bell battles between head and heart when more devastating revelations affecting her life threaten her relationship with her father, prompting the narrow-minded gossips of Sunset, Louisiana to continue to bury the knife, opening wounds and breaking her heart.

The relationship between Brea and Pierce struggles with secrets and lies, miscommunication, jealousy, vengeance, and time spent apart. Pierce has gone underground and rogue in the hopes of taking down the man who tortured and abused our story line hero, and in this Brea finds herself alone at a time when she needs Pierce Walker the most. Brea’s relationship with her father, and his strict religious beliefs take precedent as Brea struggles with the ramifications of her relationship with the man that she loves, a relationship she believes is now in the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text but I struggled with the ongoing separation between our leading couple as we were no longer up close and personal with their building relationship-in this, I felt disconnected from their growing romance.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Brea’s best friend and Pierce Walker’s nemesis Cutter Bryant (Devoted to Pleasure , Devoted Lovers #1), Brea’s father Preacher Bell, her fellow workers at the local salon, and several members of EM Security Management whom we previously met in both the Wicked Lovers, and Devoted Lovers series.

WICKED EVER AFTER is a story of heart break and betrayal; secrets and lies; friendship, family, hope and love. The premise is emotional and captivating; the characters are numerous, energetic, broken and wounded; the romance struggles in the face of preconceived notions, religious beliefs and time apart.

Passion Intrigue, Suspense ... Magnificent

From the moment Shayla Black introduced Pierce "One-Mile" Walker and Brea Bell in WICKED AS SIN, I fell in love with the tall, broody, dirty talking man and his sweet, innocent woman. WICKED EVER AFTER, the conclusion to their story was riveting, suspenseful, intriguing and passionate. It was absolutely everything that I could have hoped for and more. It was an emotional ride from beginning to end.

Resuming where book one left off, Pierce has left and Brea's life is in complete turmoil. She doesn't know where he has gone, or even if he will ever return. She struggles in her relationship with her father, because of the man she loves, and is worried about the residents of her small town and what they will think when her truth is revealed. She turns to the only person she believes can help her, her best friend Cutter ... but he too is struggling with his life. A deal is made ... but will it ever see fruition? Has Brea really lost the only man she will ever love? Or, will Pierce return to claim his woman? Pierce, meanwhile is dealing with his own dramas ... a monumental mess that could threaten the life of Brea. Can he find and destroy the man who has torn his life apart? Will he be able to uncover the mole inside EM Security Management, who is threatening the lives of everyone around him? Can he find his way back to Brea?

Pierce and Brea's relationship is a mess. They continually struggle with lies, jealousy, secrets and a huge amount of miscommunication and misunderstanding. Brea also struggles with her upbringing and how her father and the townfolk will accept her and the man she loves. I adored Brea, she grew enormously in strength in this book ... she became stronger, more determined to stand up for herself and for the man she truly desired. I fell more in love with Pierce as he story progressed, he was steadfastly resolute in what/who he wanted. Nothing was going to get in his way. When Pierce and Brea are together their passion is intense, their love for one another undeniable.

Shayla Black has written an intense love story that will no doubt break your heart, but it will also inspire. It shows that two people, no matter their background or the barriers placed in front of thtem, will always find a way.

Of all Shayla's stories, Wicked As Sin and Wicked Ever After would have to be my favourites. Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Hmmmm I really need a minute to share with you all the feelings I have right now for Wicked Ever After. I have so many feelings.

When we finished book one, we know that Pierce “One-Mile” Walker walked out on Brea due to him being needed for a mission. Book 2 picks up right were it ended. At the end of Book one you were in just as much shock as Brea. You know that the momentum of these two is going to be explosive. But there is so much unresolved between them. You are just left sitting there with your mouth gaping open like a fish.

My first feeling is that of anxiety. I seriously was freaking out on almost every page worried that freaking One Mile was not going to beat the Mexican Drug Lord and that something was going happen to Brea. I hated every second they were a part. I felt like that they were safer together. I felt anxiety about Brea being on her own. She didn’t feel like she could count on anyone. Every page I wanted to just give her a hug. She was so busy worried about everyone else. She needed someone to lean on not necessarily pick her up and do things for her but someone who was emotional there for her not bossing her around.

Next up so much Anger! Seriously, I was pissed at her dad. I was pissed at Cutter. I was pissed at One-Mile. I was Pissed at ALL of One-Mile’s co workers. Seriously people needed to pull their heads out of the sand and help a girl out! One-Mile kind of gets a pass because he was looking for her.

Finally, I have complete admiration for Brea. She got handled kind of a shit deal her first time around with a dude and she made the most of it. She got herself a backbone. She pushed back against Cutter, her dad, the nasty gossips in her town. She also came through in the big moments when it counted the most.

Shayla Black has away of charging up all my emotions when I read her books. I am so invested in her characters. You never know when she is going to switch things up either. Her plots are not easy to foreshadow or pick apart. I love her books for the twist and turns you take while reading. Her stories always charge up your emotions to the point you are emotional invested in the characters. Everytime I close out one of Shayla’s books I swear the next story can not be as good as what I just finished. I loved everyone moment of this book. It is an absolute solid 5/5 star read for me. She probably deserves a little extra for the emotional rollercoasters she took me.

FINAL DECISION: Loved this conclusion to Brea and (Pierce) One-Mile's story. I worried that the first book raised expectations that wouldn't be met in the finale, but this one was great and hit all the right notes -- passion, angst, drama, romance, action and plenty of sexy times.

THE STORY: At the end of the first part of Brea and One-Mile's story, the two have fallen in love, but One-Mile's job is dangerous and the people he interact with a threat to Brea. At the same time, Brea is uncertain about One-Mile's feelings and intentions. Misunderstandings abound as these two try and navigate their emotions amid the expectations of those around them.

OPINION: This second part of Brea and One-Mile's story begins with a misunderstanding which sets up the conflict in the story as the players react and set up new situations that the characters need to navigate. I'm not a real fan of misunderstanding conflicts -- especially because this misunderstanding seems to easy to fix. But thankfully, the misunderstanding is resolved and the characters go on to resolve the problem situations they find themselves in.

The story goes really fast and the pacing just compels the readers to gobble the book up quickly.

One thing I really liked is how Pierce is such a tough guy but who is sensitive and haunted by his past. He doesn't really believe that he is good enough for Brea. He has masked his insecurities and self-loathing by his outer toughness and anti-social rudeness. I really love when an alpha hero is just completely undone by a sweet gentle heroine. I like that Brea has morals and convictions but she is not judgmental or unforgiving. She also is certainly willing to go all in when she falls in love.

The prior book had a bit more action, but this part felt more emotional.

WORTH MENTIONING: This book completes Brea and One-Mile's story, but there is an epilogue that sets up the next book in the series. That epilogue leaves the book with a cliffhanger for the next story, but does not disturb the HEA for Brea and One-Mile.

CONNECTED BOOKS: WICKED AFTER EVER is the second part of the story of Brea and One-Mile. The first book, WICKED AS SIN, should be read first. This book also overlaps in time with DEVOTED TO PLEASURE but that book doesn't have to be read to enjoy this one.

STAR RATING: I give this book 4.5 stars.

NOTE: I received an eARC of this book via the author. I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

I am grateful that Shayla Black quickly released the second book in the Brea and Pierce “One-Mile” duet, Wicked Ever After . I needed the end of their story quickly. Brea Bell is the town’s good girl. Her father is a preacher. He raised Brea to follow the rules and she did. Her commitment to help her father, and serve his church is important to Brea. Pierce is the exact opposite. He has the bad boy reputation and does not follow any rules.

Wicked Ever After brings the readers right back to where Wicked as Sin ended. One-Mile is on a mission. Brea doesn’t know when he will be back or even if he will survive to come back. All she knows is that she loves him. They both have secrets that have the potential to end their relationship before it really gets off the ground. Pierce has a past. There is a good chance that he won’t measure up to Brea’s dad’s expectations. Can she pick only one? Moreover, Brea is afraid that her small hometown will not take kindly to the new Brea after One-Mile.

I truly enjoyed this book. My heart went through all the ups and downs I expect of a Shayla Black story. I was smiling one minute then yelling at my Kindle the next. There is non-stop action to keep the pages turning, with the characters changing developing into beautiful adults who want to make a life together. One of my favorite scenes in this story is when Pierce meets Preacher Bell the first time. Their meeting is a little tense and perfect.

This duet features many of the characters that I love from previous series, Wicked Lovers (my introduction to Shayla’s writing) and Wicked and Devoted. The teaser at the end has me jumping for joy, because another character I love is returning from Wicked Lovers. I cannot wait. I highly recommend this duet (the books are not standalones) to anyone who loves a tense romance with hot and sexy times.

I almost gave up on this book early on because it didn’t come close to living up to the first one. I wasn’t expecting the miscommunication trope, which is one of the tropes I can’t stand, and I didn’t know it was going to be a “thing” going in. I was just so eager to continue from the cliffhanger in book 1.

What really frustrated me was how weak and immature Brea became in this book. She completely failed to speak up for One Mile when everyone had the wrong impression about their relationship. Not once did she step in to correct the false narration that circulated about them. She let him be humiliated, and I felt so bad for him. Despite his difficult past, he was such a stand-up guy that it made me question whether Brea even deserved him anymore.

When One Mile finally shared the painful story about his father, I was moved to tears. It made me wish Brea had shown him the love and support he needed from the beginning instead of acting so thoughtlessly. I honestly didn’t like her at all by the end of this book despite loving her in book 1. It felt like two different people.

Another thing that stood out to me was a scene where she walked in while he was with her dad, and instead of choosing to sit with him, she sits at the table then chooses her father? 🙄 That felt really odd to me, almost like she was completely out of touch with what was going on. She was never really there for him other than here and there… he was the one always convincing her… it got tiring…

I will probably won’t finish the series or may come back later because I’m still sour about Brea and the next one is a single mom trope and this almost always annoy me… they never get this right… so who knows… maybe this would be different…with That said, Troy Duran’s narration was, as always, perfect!

Gah! I couldn't get enough of One-Mile and Brea after part one and now I'm left utterly speechless. Shayla is known for her romantic suspense. It's one of the many sub-genres she nails perfectly and Wicked & Devoted books one and two are a prime example of why I love this author so much.

One-Mile and Brea love story is full of suspense, passion, heat, mystery, and love. the love between these two wasn't an easy one, it seems as though everything and anything that could destroy their relationship and love for each other tried to get between the two of them. One-Mile finally finds out what Brea is hiding, the secret that she's been hiding and he makes it clear that he won't let anything to anyone get in the middle of them too, that she will be his and only his. But the thing is, Brea is too focused on everyone else and making them happy even though it could cost her, her happiness. But when some truths are revealed she realizes that she needs to fight for One-Mile and their love and the life they want to share and she won't let anything get in the way.

This book and this couple are EVERYTHING. I am in complete of the author right now and her ability to paint a story in my mind with her words so clearly that with ease I lose myself for hours among the pages of the book. This was the right amount of everything. The suspense and heat, mystery, and passion and fire that burned so bright between these two. This love story is all-consuming and addictive, and a story that I will come back to and re-read time and time again, as I do with all Shayla Black's work.

6 STARS!

Shayla Black does not disappoint! This is the conclusion to the One-Mile and Brea saga and it is quite delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of this duet and this second tome is just as good. Lots of passion, suspense, and a few heart-breaking moments weave a wonderfully wicked story.

There is plenty of drama for Brea and her “medical condition” – but the best part is that she has grown into quite an assertive darling. (She was a little prissy the first time around). Also, it was much more meaningful having read Cutter’s book (Devoted to Pleasure) as these timelines overlap and we are now getting the “other side” of the story from Brea’s perspective. (I didn’t really “like” her in that book – too selfish – but she really wasn’t now was she?) Her father’s perspective was also much better than I thought it would be – that was quite refreshing.

One-Mile continues with his smitten-ness of Brea without apology – even though she mistakes his initial need for space – for her protection. He gets mixed up with that nasty Mexican cartel again – which keeps you on the edge as to when that guy is going to show up again for his revenge. That wrapped up a little too conveniently, just to pop up yet again at the end.

I just love this couple and I am so happy for their happy ever after!

This book consolidates several of Ms. Black’s Devoted and Wicked series storylines and sets up some new adventures going forward. I don’t know how Shayla keeps all of these timelines together – she must have one hell of a whiteboard in her office. I definitely recommend this book – but only after you read the first one – Wicked as Sin.
