Hacker and thief Zoe Zimmerman and her team have been responsible for some of the most inexplicable and ingenious heists of the last few of years but what does a professional thief do for Christmas?
Zoe uses her ill-gotten gains to take her decidedly un-criminal Gran and sister to a luxury country hotel. It should be all fine wine, gourmet food and luxury spa treatments and perhaps it would have been if Zoe hadn’t decided to pull a job right under their noses.
Unfortunately, without her team, Zoe has to watch her own back. And without eyes in the back of her head will she be able to see who is coming to destroy her plans?
Zoe Zimmerman is a thief, her grandmother and her sister Agatha are also thieves. Zoe and her family are off on Christmas holiday at a very posh hotel because Zoe has a job to do. This story is a fun story how Zoe handles the thief while her family sets her up to different challenges along the way.
God I love this cover!! It sums up the wintery setting of the story and that little bit more about the events of Zoe’s stay in the luxury hotel! Now I’ve read the other Kilchester novels so getting to know hacker Zoe who has been a little in the background was fab!
Zoe is not to be messed with. No familiarities, no “love” or “sweetheart” with our Zoe, she’s sassy, straight talking and loves her gadgets! Now this job she’s got to pull should be straight forward but her sister is an obstacle. Agatha knows Zoe isn’t 100% legit so suspects something is up…nothing like making life hard work.
Gran is a wise woman, never was a truer phrase said: “Know your friends. Don’t trust easily, but once trust is earned pay it back.” She’s definitely one to watch… she’s an entertaining soul throughout the story!
Maxwell has written a short sharp escapade with a proper festive backdrop of a snowy Christmas with fancy dress parties, family time and plenty of overindulgence. If you want to take your first trip to Kilchester or make a return one, Come On Steal The Noise is the ideal way to spend an evening in the run up to Christmas!
Zoe has decided to spend some of her hacker money on treating her sister and their mom to a stay at a luxury hotel for Christmas. Unfortunately she is going to do a job while there. Big mistake!! Who is wrecking Zoe's big plans? There is mystery, suspense and some funny moments. Sounds like winter wonderland. Gran is quite the lady! I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
This was a fun enough little addition to the Dali Deception universe, although as with the original book it was more surface-level fun than anything really involved. I'm glad it was only the one character and her family because I have definitely forgotten most of the gang from the original book at this point. I'm not usually one for anything Christmas themed but this was actually pretty fun.
More larcenous goings on from the Kilchester crime crew. This is another short story about a Christmas heist at a pre-climate change snow-bound hotel. Much like the Kill It With Fire, this short story covers one specific 'job' without the added dynamics that made The Dali Deception so enjoyable. There was just too many ingredients missing, and it felt to me that it was confusing at times, over-written and padded out to make it into a short story, whereas if it had more of a back story and was written as a proper novel with sub-plots etc, it would have been better. Much better, actually, because when he does the proper, full length novel thing, Adam Maxwell really shines.
A lively Christmas short which I read as a bit of a palette cleanser after some of the heavier stuff I've been reading lately. A goofy crime caper as a thief tries to pull a job in a luxury hotel, despite having invited her detective sister along. I'd not read any of the author's other books so I assume that in general they're a bit less frothy. This was an easy read, but ultimately not funny enough to be a comedy, but not... crimey enough to be anything more serious.
Great story. The writer uses clever similes and hyperbole to create fabulous humour, which is equally matched by the fine interplay between the characters. Read it!
I did enjoy this amusing cosy story! Not my usual but still very good & well worth a read! A new writer for me, so I will have a look at what else they have done!
