I was rearranging my books and came across this one. It caught my eye. So I ended up reading it. This was a very good story. I actually liked both characters. Michael was a man who had lost his mother at a young age, and ended up in the foster system, eventually at The Granger Home for Boys. Because of that loss, he had determined never to fall in love or give his heart away. For three long years, he fought feelings for his secretary, Kate, until they had too much champagne, and shared a night of passion. The next morning, he apologized and told her he wanted things to be just business. Kate never got over that night, because she'd fallen in love with Michael. She knew it was a risky thing to do, but the heart doesn't listen to logic. When she reveals her pregnancy, Michael has to campaign for her to marry him, to make sure that his child has a family and a secure future that he didn't have. But that alone isn't enough. He finds that he wants his very wary wife's heart and a chance at a real family.

This was a very good book. Banks thoroughly involves me in this relationship between Michael and Kate. This book is both emotional and sensual. I loved seeing their hearts open up to each other and connect on deep levels. I liked that Kate doesn't settle for just part of Michael, because she shows him that he can have more if he does take a chance. Category romance is such a neat way to get a lovely romance that you can read in under two hours, but get the full exposure, albeit in brief form. I like marriage and baby books, and with a hero who acts tough and detached, but really is a sweetheart, plus a heroine who is very lovable, what more can you ask for with this book?

I plan to read the other two books about Michael's best buds, who were also in the Boys' Home,
Millionaire Husband and The Millionaire's Secret Wish

One night of passion with his secretary led CEO Michael Hawkins to brushing it off as a mistake and returning their attention to a professional relationship. What he had not planned on was his secretary to become pregnant, when she ups and quits with no explanation he has to figure out how to get her back.

Kate knew Michael had a reputation of being known as the Tin Man when it came to everything in his life, how could you live life with no heart? When Michael discovers she is pregnant, she sees glimpses of the man she knew was there but when he demands marriage she is reluctant to commit to a man who vows he has no love to give.

I thought this was incredibly entertaining. Michael was a foster kid and has a lot of hangups with his past, believing he is unlovable but as he grows closer to Kate he wonders if what he has always believed is true. Some pretty funny moments as Kate stands her ground and Michael tries to handle her like a merger.

CEO spends the night with his secretary and she ends up pregnant. They get married for the baby but she wants his heart as well. Hero is emotionally closed off because of his awful crappy childhood but Kate and their baby melt his cold heart. Super romantic read! Hero was vulnerable and loving and u could tell he really loved Kate. The scene at the hospital when Kate almost lost her baby was very emotional. Epilogue with their daughter was heartwarming! Amazing book, totally recommend!

I like vulnerable Heroes , and this guy just made me swoon . He is emotionally closed up coz of his dark, lonely childhood . h is H's very attractive secretary and one night of passion results in accidental pregnancy . H doesn't want his child to grow up the way he did, illegitimate & alone with his mother , so he insists they get married .

He is clueless when it comes to stuff like love , marriage or home .How do you think he proposes ? He brings his financial statement and gives it to her . and he keeps repeating it to h , how nice it will be to have such financial support for the baby .
“Yes, a lot of men propose with words of love and devotion and diamond rings, but your Daddy brought me his financial statement instead.”
“Michael, if you don’t stop talking about the financial arrangements pertaining to this marriage, I’m going to throw up.”

He assures her that he is donating for charity with his complete motivation for tax write-off . I fell in love with his vulnerability, this is a very short book, I enjoyed reading it, Sweet and heart-warming with lots of choco cookies . Now I am gonna read the next book in the series .

Might be a bit biased in this as I just came from rereading a good one I like. I find the H here too detached all along for me to like the story. I understand his reservations, but I find him a bit hardheaded and didn't really get a feel that his feelings for her changed much even after all the little things the h did and said throughout the book. I would appreciate it a lot more if there are more emotions or struggle involved. Sometimes all it takes might be a few more sentences, sometimes even just the right word or reaction. All through the book he never exert much effort to make the relationship work. The only thing he seems to want is to hit the sack with her so I didn't connect well with him and find even his sudden change in attitude a bit abrupt.

The h really tried hard all along to make allowances for him and work on drawing him out without making much success. She really is a great h in that she is practical, understanding and reasonable. On the other hand, I hate to see her trying so hard without much success. I can see her more as a minor character in another book without a hea and living on unrequitted love than a h of a book, for some reason. The ending just seems a bit sudden and abrupt.

This probably has something to do with the length of the novel. Also has to do with the focus of the book, where there are months lapsing in between with no change in the status quo. Another reason is my inability to relate to the emotions of the H, which seem to not need the h much throughout the book and is more focused on his work than personal life. (I would like to be told what we see is not what we get, but only the H having hidden his emotions well, alas, that is not the case here).

All in all, not really my fav...

Kate Adams has worked as Michael Hawkins' assistant for 3 years. 2 1/2 months ago they had a night of loving, followed by a morning of regret and back-pedalling on Michael's part. Kate discovers she is pregnant and tries to find out Michael's feelings for her by telling him that she has fallen for him (without informing him of the pregnancy). He tells her he doesn't believe in love, so she quits her job and leaves. Michael eventually guesses that Kate may be pregnant, so he confronts her and she admits it. He never had a father, and his mother died when he was 6 years old, leaving him to be raised in foster care and an orphanage. Naturally, he feels strongly about illegitimate children and single mothers, and is determined to marry Kate and give her and their child financial security and his name.

I didn't really like Kate very much. I understand that she doesn't want Michael to marry her just because she is pregnant, but she really is stuck in her romantic idylls. Once she learns of his childhood, she acknowledges that he doesn't really understand how a family should behave, but she doesn't do much about helping him. I can't help but think she would have been miserable even if she had a "normal" courtship and marriage. She expects Michael to know what she wants without telling him, even though she knows he has never experienced the type of family life she expects. Even if she had married someone with a strong family background, they wouldn't have "just known" what she wants - everyone's family is different. Oh, and the trite marital advice her parents give them on their wedding day. "You have to give 110%." Yes, yes, we all know that. It was just so cheesy and pointless.

Talking about cheese... 3 weeks before her due date date, Kate decides to climb up a ladder to hang Christmas decorations. It's not an emergency. It's not even that she's alone and has no one else to climb the ladder. Now, most women I know at that stage of pregnancy have enough trouble getting off a sofa, let alone climbing ladders. Of course, this is all done so that she will fall and end up rushed to hospital, and Michael will be shocked into realising how empty his life would be without her, and admitting that he loves her and their baby. Cheese alert! He has demonstrated over and over how much he cares. He has already admitted to himself (even before he found out about the pregnancy) that Kate is his best friend, and that he doesn't want to lose her. There must have been a more elegant way to resolve their feelings for each other.

Oh and the whole pregnancy thing. Kate really seems to spend her first trimester, if not the whole pregnancy, in denial about it. She doesn't want to tell Michael. She doesn't want her parents to know. She doesn't want his friends to know. Um, I think everyone kinda figured it out, honey.

Ok, ok, I know I'm giving the impression that I didn't like this book very much, but it was actually all right. This is the problem with most category romances - they just don't bear much scrutiny. It was a nice light read and an easy way to pass the time, but certainly not a book I'd be returning to time and again.

After a night of passion between the hero and heroine, who actually happen to be boss and secretary, a pregnancy occurs. When the hero learns of this, he wants to marry her for the babies sake. The heroine isn't too impressed with this because she wants his undying love and is going to try and get it.

Great read.

It's much more detailed than the manga, of course. More important scenes were cut from the manga, can't say this was better since the feeling is the same :)

This one's a big ole' FIVE. Michael fights his attraction to his assistant because she's the best assistant ever. But too much champagne and celebrating one night led to Kate finding herself pregnant. Michael was an orphan growing up in the Granger Home for boys. His past tells him he would be a terrible husband and father and it's best to keep his heart guarded. Knowing this, Kate just quits her job, walks away without any explanation. But Michael guesses and confronts her. He would never let a child of his grow up without a family. He offers his bank account and his name. Kate wants more. She wants his heart as well.

It was beautiful to see Michael and Kate learn they could trust each other and for love to heal them both.

This was unlike any harlequin or entangled book I have ever read. those kind of books have a certain feel to them that is very mature but really only focuses on the main character and doesn't have many subplots. There was nothing else going except the couple it's about. But this was different. It showed the light in the other characters specifically Dylan. That made me want to read about him even if I don't know he has a book.

This book was phenomenal since I don't usually like these types of books but the author did a great job getting you involved with the characters lives.

I have read several books by Leanne Banks before, and enjoyed this one just as much. This was a great romance, that had a few unexpected parts.

Would recommend to others.
