From ancient Rome to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, this lavishly illustrated chronicle of the history of firefighting examines some of history's most devastating fires, explores the role of the firefighter in human society, and traces the evolution of firefighting technology, equipment, and tactics over the years. 35,000 first printing.
Great book on firefighting, published by DK Books, has apx. 150+ pages, covering two chapters (The History of firefighting in the 1st chapter covers fires from Ancient Greece/Rome all the way up to 9/11 and after, plus fires from around the world and other famous fires, like the one in Chicago in the 50's at our Lady of the Angels; the 2nd Chapter covers the History of Fire Science Technology including basic fire science and behavior, firefighting techniques, fire suppression and prevention, forensics, fire fighting trucks and equipment, rescue operations, air and sea firefighting, training methods, etc. and each is about two pages long).
Fire safety tips (two pages worth) are towards the back/end of the book and are valuable, basic tips to learn and stay safe.
All in all a great book on firefighting for people of all ages and those interested in becoming or already are EMT's, police officers, firefighters, 911 operators, security guards (like me) and everyone in general, fans of firefighters like me, etc.
I'm a firebuff from the word go! So this book caught my eye and I bought it. It's a good education for someone who is unfamiliar with the fire service and a neat find for those of us who are.
