A very enjoyable cozy mystery!

"I want to report a murder, Didi said.
Chief Allie Voegler gave her one of those quick "am I dealing with a nut" looks, then recovered and asked professionally: "Whose murder?"
"Dick Obey," she replied.
He shot back: "No! You can't report Dick Obey's murder. I have the Delaware County coroner's report. Dick Obey fell drunk into a ditch and was killed by a pack of dogs."
"I want to see the crime scene photos. Do you have them?"
He exploded, "Of course not. Why the hell would I need to look at them? Besides, there are no crime scene photos. It was an accident. Look, why don't you stick to cows and I'll take care of crime?"
"Believe me. I can see things you can't" she said gently.
"Yeah, I suppose you can read a lot of things in a field of manure."
She ignored the provocation. "I'm trained in something that is very close to forensic medicine. I investigate 'crimes' against animals all the time. The perpetrators may be bacteria or viruses or allergies or cruel masters —but the investigative method is the same."

Dr. Nightingale Comes Home by Lydia Adamson is a fun cozy mystery that has great characters, a believable storyline, and plenty of suspense! I enjoyed this book very much and will have to read more of this series!

Deirdre comes home to upstate NY after finishing veterinary school in PA. An old friend of hers is found dead in a ditch. He was attacked by dogs. She doesn't believe everything that has happened to him recently and then the circumstances leading up to his death.

There were some funny moments, and sad, heartwarming and you can tell she truly loves animals big and small. This is the first in the series and I will someday read book 2.

1st book in Dr. Nightingale series. This was very good for a first book. Didi Nightingale is a vet in up state New York. A dairy farmer that has gone bankrupt iis found dead and it was said he died because he got drunk and some wild dogs killed him, but Didi decided it was murder and went about finding the way to prove it was.

This was my first time reading from this series, although I've read and enjoyed other books by this author. I really liked Dr. Nightingale, and her small-town/farmer/rancher neighbors and friends. Lots of great details about veterinary medicine, and an interesting mystery to be solved.

For a first book in the series this was an excellent mystery. I hope her other books in the series are as good. I wasn't too crazy about the ending...she could have left that last little bit out but overall it was very good.
