The Duchess is going on an adventure!

At the end of The Duchess Quest, our characters have decided that their journey is not quite over. As the title suggests, there is an inheritance to recover. So this book begins with our duchess making plans to sail across the sea and unlock the gift left by her deceased parents, even though she has no idea what that prize might be.

Dainy has found the man she wants to marry. Sure, her love has yet to propose to her, but Dainy is determined to be with Jon. Unfortunately, her own jealousy, other suitors, and even her brother are proving to make things difficult for the couple. Their love for each other is tested in this book, in more ways than one.

Things were going great for Bos and his lady, Selu. That is, until a man from her past returns from the dead and puts a wedge between the happy couple. Their relationship becomes a seemingly impossible pursuit with a splash of deceit and betrayal added to the mix.

Macmillan finally decides that it's time to find a love of his own. His first attempt doesn't exactly pan out for him, but eventually fate leads him to a fair maiden who may just be the perfect match for our Mac. It's just too bad that he lets her slip away from their first meeting without even learning her name...

And my Jon... Poor, poor Jon. My heart broke for this guy, who was definitely my favorite character in the first book. He is really put through the ringer, here. And by the end of the story, I wanted to scoop him up and hold him close. I still get sad when I think about all he went through in the name of love.

In closing...
Another whirlwind adventure by C.K. Brooke! It has been announced that a third Jordinia book is headed our way, featuring descendants of our duchess who are off on a quest of their own. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on it! Five stunning suns!

A well rendered continuation of the Jordinia series!

Dainy has travelled far with her companions Mac and Jon, and are even joined by an old friend Bos, as she seeks what her key will unlock...her royal inheritance. Find it they did and it's wealth beyond measure! But now she must make a decision, how will the money be used? For her kingdom? She's been exiled, will she even be allowed back in Jordinia to rule? So many questions, which I'm sure will be answered in book three!

I absolutely love this series, at first i wasn't thrilled about the writing style because it wasn't something I was completely used to reading for a genera like this, however, It had me hooked from the first book, and I love each and every character they are easy to relate to.

This was awesome and sad. The republic fell, Cosmith soldiered on like a good husband and Mac fell in love but in the end everything was okay... All hail the Ducelle empire

Quick Reasons: awesome action/adventure; entertaining, hilarious characters; tons of dramatic, soap opera-esque moments; snark, sass, and all things delicious; endearing, steamy romance; pirates, coups, and power struggles; I'm not so sure I liked the epilogue, but that's personal preference; a heck of a great read!

So many thank yous to C.K. Brooke and 48fourteen Publishers for sending me a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.

"I wake up with you each morning," he murmured, "thinking it impossible to love you any more than I already do." He grinned at the sound of her sweet sighs as the bathwater lapped at their skin. "And I go to bed with you every night, proving myself wrong."

Guys, seriously--this series is the absolute BEST. The whole time I was reading, I kept asking myself: am I stuck in the middle of a fantasy, or a soap opera in book form?! And it was awesome! I'm not one for daytime tv, but C.K. Brooke does such a fantastic job crafting her characters and the world surrounding them, I immediately get sucked into her stories--and don't even mind all the drama! (in fact, the drama in this series only made these books more enjoyable for me!)

The characters are entertaining and endearing. Dainy, especially, called to me, easily keeping me enthralled and wanting to know what happened next. Which is weird, because I don't usually enjoy characters like her. She has SUCH a huge flair for dramatics and overreacting; I usually find such traits in characters annoying, but C.K. Brooke somehow managed to include them while still rounding Dainy out. She is a truly complex character, and I loved following her on her journey. Of course, the rest of the cast is JUST as well-rounded and entertaining!

There were so many more shifts in perspective--and so many new characters--to keep track of in this book than we were introduced to in the first. This wasn't confusing, though--each chapter heading told readers which character they were following, and C.K. Brooke wrote the transitions seamlessly. It was a bit daunting at first, though; if I remember correctly, the first book had a few slight perspective shifts, but nothing like this one. Still, the change of pace and scenery from one chapter to the next allowed me to get a broader sense of each player in the story--and helped bring them more fully to life for me.

And the plot! The plot is probably the best thing about this book, because it's FULL of action, adventure, romance and power struggles. There is a touch of every genre, which is sure to keep even the most easily distracted/bored readers entertained and flipping through the pages at break-neck speed. I, personally, devoured this novel within a few hours, and was left hungering for more.

"I need not believe in miracles, Jon," she whispered. "I believe in you."

I'm not so sure I'm keen on the epilogue at the end, but that's a small matter. I feel like it was written a bit more haphazard than the rest of this duology--more to answer the questions of "what if" than to give closure. But I found I didn't NEED to know the answers; I almost wish I had left it off at the end of the last chapter, and skipped over the epilogue completely--I'd have still been happy with the ending, and these books, without knowing where the characters ended up. This series, though, is a TON of fun. I recommend this book--nay, this series!--to lovers of fantasy worlds, confident women, and soap opera levels of drama laced into the action. I promise, C.K. Brooke won't disappoint you--pick her up!

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

I was excited to start this one after finishing the fun adventure that was The Duchess Quest. I was really curious to see how Dani would get her kingdom back and what trouble her and her companions would get into.

This one started strong, lulled a little just before the halfway point but finished strong. The last half of this book was by far the best part. It was nonstop action, plot twists and memorable character moments for the latter 50%. I really liked how everything came together.

Again, the multiple POVs are the strength of this series. It provides a 360 degree view of the world and keeps the story moving. It also gets you inside the minds of the various characters. I didn't realize how attached to these characters I was until it all came to an end. I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to their story.

I loved the first book and couldn't wait to read this sequel.....and it delivered! As it started, I was immediately taken back into the world and reminded how much I missed and loved The Duchess Quest's characters. The pacing was fast and action packed. If you liked the different countries in the first book, you'll appreciate the international travel onto another continent in The Duchess Inheritance. I enjoyed how the author mirrors countries in this story with countries in Europe and Asia. As it gets pretty serious in the second half, there is still plenty of humor and romance. There was lots of political game play, as well, which added to the depth of the story. I was sad to see the series end as I felt so close to the characters and the world they inhabit. But, in consolation, C.K. Brooke has more coming outside of this series...so I will have to wait patiently for now :)

When I opened "The Duchess Inheritance," I was so happy to return to the lives of the characters from Book I, "The Duchess Quest." In this second book, Dainy now knows she is a duchess and daughter of the murdered emperor. The story involves a hair-raising quest for the return of her family's fortune, and her rightful position as leader of Jordinia. At her side is the incomparable Jon Cosmith, the love of her life, whose arrogant swagger and clever brain are now somewhat tamed by his devotion to her and his determination to serve her, even if it costs him his life. There are shocking and unexpected moments in this book, which showcase author C.K. Brooke's skills at story telling, and this is another of her books you won't want to put down from the opening page. If you enjoyed "The Duchess Quest," you have to read "The Duchess Inheritance," to see how it all works out in the end.

Yep. Nailed it! Perfect sequel. Wrapped up every loose end while twisting my heartstrings and keeping me turning the pages. If it had been a paperback I doubt it would have survived between the tight fisted grasp and the tears.

This one had even more twists and surprises. Action packed from start to finish, I ran through every emotion from indignant anger to bawling my eyes out in pain to laughing out loudly enough that my spouse shook his head at me.

You won't be disappointed by either of these books!!

Damn you, you almost made me cry with that ending. But I did enjoy the whole book even though I finished it in one day *whispers* I need help. It was interesting to see all the hardship Dainy and the gang endured for the revival of the empire and that all of them could get what they wanted and live happily ever after. UNTIL YOU DECIDED TO KILL TO OF THEM!!!!
