Romance in Rusty Gun, Texas has filled the air as Agatha and Hank gear up for their big day. But when Hank’s sisters show up with a dead body in their van, things get a little complicated.
The big question is why mercenaries would be camped out in their sleepy town, who seem to leave a trail of bodies everywhere they go. Between Hank’s sisters and the mercenaries, it’s a toss-up as to who is the most dangerous. But if anyone can solve a crime and plan a wedding, it’s Hank and Agatha.
From Liliana Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the J.J. Graves Mystery Series, and her crime-fighting husband, comes a scintillating new entry in the fun and page-turning Harley and Davidson Mysteries. Fans of Murder She Wrote will love Hank Davidson and Agatha Harley!
Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).
Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.
Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.
Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.
Hank and Agatha’s wedding is two weeks away when his five sisters come for a visit. I could not stop laughing at some of their antics. I don’t want to ruin the story for you by telling you all about it, but you will be glad you read it. There is at least one more book to come in the series. Personally, I am hoping for a lot more.
This book starts off with laughter. I love it. Hank's sisters are some crazy characters. (I think we all have a few of them in our own families.) Another mystery for our favorite crime busting duo to solve.
The book had a good storyline. A lot of action. However, I thought the TSTL moment Agatha had was a bit over the top. I know it pushed the story to move on, but I wish she'd have at least called for back up beforehand, even if the back up took too much time to get there. She should know better. Not an action that will stop me from continuing the series, just a bit disappointed as a reader.
Actually a "Part 1" short novella with poor editing & a double cliffhanger!
As usual , the actual writing, setup, progression and character development in this series is quite good and the three interacting story lines are each tense and realistic. However, the poor editing seriously detracts from the natural flow of the story. Double words and missing words prevail but how "segway" instead of "segue" got past any beta reader is beyond me.
The promotional blurb describes the book as the next-to-last in the series. However, that blurb does not in any way indicate that it is, in reality, a short novella (only 1281 location points in the Kindle app, no actual page quantity listed on the website or in the book itself).
Nor does that blurb give you any indication that the novella will end in not one but in two cliffhangers, one for the personal storyline and one for the murder storyline.
My normal rating for any work with a cliffhanger is no better than two stars out of five, but I went up to three stars because of the excellent writing and storytelling.
Oh, and if, as you read along, you find yourself wondering how the title of the book applies to the story? Don't worry; you're not missing anything. That title has absolutely nothing to do with any of the three storylines until the last page.
How much fun it must be to create a place like Rusty Gun, Texas and characters like Agatha, Hsnk, Coil and a small town full of friends. It's so real that I have to acclimate myself back to home and family and let Rusty Gun fade until the new book is out. This story had a lot of dangerous action and a deep sorrow to face, plus serious injuries to Hank. I hope there will be many more stories from Rusty Gun.
I have enjoyed all of Agatha & Hank's escapades including this one leading up to I presume to be the final one, but if that is to be, than why not make it all in one? Really disappointed in The way this ended --just to make us wait till the next book is published. That being said bringing Hank's sisters in was entertaining and fun to read, and following that I was on the edge of my seat for the rest of this story. A other good one by this couple.
Well, this is one cliffhanger I enjoyed. Can't wait for the next installment of this crazy story arc. Family from hell, or at least purgatory being violence and death to our main characters. Mercenaries, murder and exploding bodies! 5 older sisters! Heck of a story.
I think the best way to justify a 5 star rating for this book is to say I'm happy I purchased and read this story. Again I enjoy these characters, storylines, and settings. This story advanced the series, yet left just enough unfinished to keep me eagerly awaiting the next installment, without being a cliffhanger story.
Another clever story with Aggie and Hank closing in on their wedding day. His family comes to town, bringing a dead body with them. From that point on, things get crazy. This has a somewhat unusual ending, making me look forward to the next installment.
This is a fun series to read—— characters are enjoyable and eccentric, while the plots are clever and unusual. The main characters have lots of dangerous adventures in their retirement in this small Texas town of Rusty Gun!
I couldn't believe Agatha behaved so stupid in this book. I thought her actions were totally out of character and didn't jive at all with the smart, careful Agatha she's been in the prior books.
Five old ladies sticking their noses into everything, a dead body flying out of a Hearst, and clueless mercenaries leave Aggie and Hank with their wounded hands full.
this was another awesome story reading through this story, I got involved with the people hoping no one was killed, but thats not the case!! Now on to more murders !!! Liliana keep writing , we need more of the fanntastic mysteries!!!
As always this was a wonderful story that was exciting and entertaining! I almost read the whole thing in one sitting! Looking forward to the next one!
Another great story of Bank and Agatha.....nothing is ever simple in their small town ....but mercenaries and guns go hand in hand with more dead bodies!
‘Curl Up and Dye,’ is the twelfth novel in this series, and I got to tell you I can’t wait until the next one! It was as suspenseful, entertaining, and had me laughing so unexpectedly. Agatha and Hank are wonderfully paired. And with his sisters thrown into the mix, this have gotten so much more interesting.
