Erin Weber insists she’s not meant for Trent Barrett! He’s one Hometown Heartthrob she’s going to avoid, but not if Leigh, his matchmaking sister, has anything to say about it.
Sure enough, there’s soon a mysterious case of puppy love goin’ on, tailor-made for one pretty pet shop owner and one handsome devil of a sheriff to solve—with marriage, perhaps?
Handsome Lawman is the third book in the humorous romantic Handsome Devils series by Lori Wilde and Liz Alvin.
Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.
She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.
Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.
She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.
It's kind of hard to reconcile this Chief of Police Trent with the manwhore that dated shallow airheads in the previous book. I kept thinking the Trent in this book was actually a different brother and I had the name wrong from the one who was a serial dater in the last book (I completely forgot he was even a cop in the last book since his dating woes overshadowed his occupation). But nope, he's one in the same and he honestly surprised me. He turned out to be such a sweet and kindhearted guy in this one and I loved him. Plus, he was too adorable with his little 5 lb furball of a puppy.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Erin though. I get that she was stood up at the alter by her ex and that left her afraid of being hurt by another man again, so she kept herself closed off to a relationship. I really do understand that. But to completely lump ALL men in the same category as her ex was just wrong. Trent never once did anything to give her reason to think he was like her ex. Not once. Yet when Trent expresses his love, Erin gives him the cold shoulder. It was really hard to like her at that point since she kept using her ex as an excuse to judge Trent. He certainly had the patience of a saint to wait her out, that's for sure.
Leigh annoyed me in this book. She was way too pushy and overbearing and it was not at all cute.
Handsome Lawman is the story about Trent Barrett, the Chief of Police, and Erin Weber, the newest resident of Honey, Texas. Erin owns Precious Pets and meets Trent, when Delia tells Trent that Erin is a thief and needs to be arrested. Erin thinks Trent is a big flirt, but oh, so handsome. They have amazing chemistry. I absolutely live this series and I love how the siblings, mainly Leigh, are always interfering with the others, all in good fun. I'm so glad I found this series and I can’t wait to read Leigh’s book now. If you love small town reads, where everyone knows everyone and has an opinion about everything, then you will love this series.
Although I've loved this series, I didn't like this book as much as the first two. The reason was the female MC, Erin. I never warmed up to her. I also didn't see what was so special about her that it made Trent change his playboy ways.
He fell in love with her in two months!
For a man that couldn't last two weeks with a woman, you'd expect the female who finally won his heart to be special. She wasn't. There was nothing all that special about Erin. If anything, I found her highly annoying with her attitude towards men. So she got dumped at the altar, big whoop. That's no reason to lump ALL men into the same category.
Their relationship felt forced and rushed. The spark between them was no different than the spark that he showed with all the other women he was with throughout this series.
The only reason I didn't give this a lower rating is because of Trent. He is an amazing character and I loved his little dog (Brutus). It was great seeing his family show up in this book a long with their loved ones.
I'm not as big of a fan of the super spoiled Leigh as others are so if I read her book at all then it will be to spy Chase/Megan and Nathan/Emma again.
In Book 3 of the series we get playboy Trent, Honey Texas' police chief, who is about to find love and a real relationship thanks to his meddling sister Leigh, an adorable puppy named Brutus and a little town mystery.
I loved Trent. It was such a 360 turn from the playboy in the previous books to the man looking for a full committed relationship with Erin the newest member of Honey and the local pet store owner. He was such a sweet, funny and sexy character. I wasn't thrilled with Erin though. Her focus on a previous relationship gone bad and having that roadblock her way to a real happily ever after with Trent kinda grated at me. I didn't feel like she was the woman that could curb Trent's playboy ways.
All in all though another fun read, enjoyable narration and of course Meddling Leigh. The sibling banter in this one is fantastic as in the previous books and a great small town read.
This is a closed door romance, with just kissing and implied sex scenes.
Handsome Lawman is the 3rd book in this series and a quick, very sweet little romance in a small town setting. I haven't read the first two in the series, as they didn't appeal to me based on the synopsis but, when reading this one, I didn't feel as though I missed anything by skipping them. They appear to be quick standalone's.
There isn't much depth to the story and it was a bit insta-lovey and the authors chose to make the sex scenes nonexistent, choosing instead to do fade to black. While I don't always need or want explicit sex scenes, I do prefer some detail when the story is this short and shallow. The adorable, mischievous puppy is the best thing about this book!
Honestly, I have no desire to continue reading this series, but it was a cute, well written, little romance.
Erin Weber has opened a pet store and immediately becomes entangled with the bad boy sheriff, Trent Barrett. Like the other books in this series, the stories are simple and quick. The audio book is only 4hrs. The characters are written surprisingly well for the short time we get to read about them.
The books are clean. You are aware the couple is having sex but it is never described. The author even goes to great lengths not a to use swear words.
This was a great story about Erin, the new pet store owner, and Trent Barrett, the chief of police. Trent was a flirt, no serious relationships, Erin was at the alter but her husband to be grabbed the maid of honor and fled the church. Can these two make a serious match, just read and see the action they can cause.
This was a fun read with dialogue that made me laugh at times. It was good escape from the mysteries I have been reading lately. I liked the hero Trent and his family.
This is a book I read for a secret TBR. It’s a contemporary small town cowboy romance. This series follows attractive brothers that are very popular in this small town. Trent is the sheriff of the town and the first time he meets the heroine, it’s because she is being accused of theft. Erin is new in town and running away from her past.
This book was light, fluffy, and super cute. It’s was a nice palette cleanser read. I always love reading about animals in romances. This one was a little off-putting because the hero is basically forced into taking in Erin’s foster puppy, which any pet owner knows, is never a good idea. No one should ever be pressured into owning a puppy. However, it was adorable seeing Trent fall in love with the puppy.
Everything that this author has written has been pretty good, laughable, and at times funny/good. I love how this goes along with the characters knowing certain characters from the previous books. And how they were able to get along with certain people in each story. I like how the stories interact with each other. It makes the stories connect and gets you involved with it.
This book had a different twist. Trent fell in love first. The guy who always was just out for fun and he had to convince Erin that he was the perfect man for her. I loved this one.
Trent is the police chief. He meets Erin Weber because Delia wants him to arrest her and then his sister Leigh plays matchmaker. This whole series so far has been fun to read
Handsome Lawman by Lori Wilde & Liz Alvin Handsome Devils Series Book Three Trent Barrett loved being single. To Trent, dating the same women for two weeks was considered a lifetime. He's the chief of police in Honey, Texas...he did a good job and people liked him. And, it was his job...and his sister...that had his life going off the usual course.
Erin Weber, the owner of Precious Pets, just moved to town and having someone yelling to have her arrested wasn't going to help her business any. And after what she'd been through, she knew the handsome man being told to arrest her was going to be a challenge. Good thing she'd been there and done that and knew to shield off that flirty attitude.
Leigh Barrett, the only sister amongst three brothers, seems to be on a mission to get her brothers settled. At least busy enough to keep their eyes off of her. So far, two out of three are now in love. Trent...after their parent's history...had no plans of falling in love. Ever. Loving this series. Great characters. **Sensual content https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Welcome back to Honey, Texas, where everyone knows your name and then some. It has been fun seeing Nathan and Chase find their happy ever after. Now their sister Leigh is back to matchmaking. This time she is focused on brother, Trent who is the chief of police. Leigh has her sights set on Erin Weber. Erin is new in town and the owner of Precious Pets. There are many laughs along the way to their happy ever after. Looking forward to the next in this series.
I find the story line in this series of books with the meddling sister to be irritating. Personally I have no patience with people who can’t mind their own business. The sister was annoying in the prior books but in this one she is the straw that breaks the camel’s back. I would not recommend this book to anyone. I gave the book one star only for the fact that I usually enjoy reading Lori Wilde.
Trent, the carefree brother, fun loving, flirty, no strings attached brother, that is up until he meets Erin. Erin, the one woman immune to his charm. Oh, she's not immune, she's in self preservation mode and no one is going to break her heart ever again. Especially the the sexy, hot Chief of Police. GREAT STORYLINE AND AWESOME CHARACTERS ! A DEFINITE MUST READ !
I loved this one book because I could follow it and Trent Barrett saved a dog from going back the the human society and if couldn't find a home put to sleep. Trent also fell in love with the pet store owner. I reccomend this book to be read it was funny and lovin, The Barrett family has The Handsome Lawman I can't wait for the next book..
A pet store owner with a secret admirer and the the local Chief of Police who does not believe in love. There is humor, lots of flirting, no sex, a little angst on her part, a tiny mystery, and a cute furball that refuses to be trained. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend.
Another fun, flirty read. Sometimes things happen that you never expected, and thoughts and feelings change, much to your surprise. But, are those feelings mutual? A lot of sex, but a nice storyline.
