SWAT Generation 2.0 #3

Maybe Swearing Will Help

Rate this book
Ford Spurlock has known Ashe Trammel since they were babies.

He’s also done his level best to stay away from her because every time he gets to within five feet of her, they’re fighting like cats and dogs.

Ashe is the apple of her father’s eye. The motorcycle club princess that was never to be harmed in any way—or touched for that matter. And he’s always resented the fact that she could get away with things that he couldn’t. Things that she then blames on him and he always gets punished for.

Fast forward to adulthood, and Ashe is still off limits. Still driving him insane. Still…beautiful.

She never misses an opportunity to give him hell, either.

That has to be why he agrees to do a photoshoot for KPD SWAT that’ll benefit her charity even when he’d rather shoot himself in the foot with his duty weapon.

***

Ashe never thought he’d agree.

Honestly, she thought she’d ask him, he’d say no, and that’d be the end of it.

She never realized that she’d leave his photo up in her cubicle, and it’d be the last thing that she saw every night as she locked her office door.

When they were kids, Ford used to be that boy that threw dirt at her and pulled her hair.

Now, he’s the same Ford Spurlock, only a whole lot sexier. And a lot harder to say no to.

When he challenges her to one date, she has no other recourse but to agree.

What she didn’t agree to was falling in love with Mr. March. Or wanting to give him everything she had to give.

It's LIVE! https://amzn.to/2xtnVSY

Ashe and Ford were frenemies. They grew up together, did a lot of messed up things together, broke bones together, had each other's backs, and were at each other's necks all their lives. They were antagonistic towards each other, but if one of them needed the other, they were there... no matter what. So what happens when all of that built up tension that they'd denied for so long finally explodes? Well, you get the awesomeness that Lani Lynn Vale created!

When Ashe and Ford got together, it was nothing like I expected and yet it was everything I wanted. From their banter to the ease of their relationship because they understood each other in a way you can only get someone when you've known them forever, I fell in love with these two so easily. There's just something about the way this author writes that really speaks to me. It's like she really gets me and my humor and provides me with the elements necessary for every read to be an amazing one. With the way I gobbled up this story, and then wished there was more to read, I couldn't help but give it all the stars!

Ford and Ashe were childhood frenemies who bickered often yet protected one another. As adults, that tension takes a turn in a different direction and I enjoyed how it unfolded. They had good chemistry and the intimacy was sensual.

The plot felt a little all over the place and OTT in some ways but it was entertaining nonetheless. I didn’t note any disturbances in pace and the overall tone fits the typical LLV signature style.

I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Ok that's the Lani Lynn Vale book I have been wanting. Honestly I read the first two books in this series and didn't even care what this one was about I already knew I was reading it. Then I read the blurb and was a little apprehensive.

Ashe sounded like a bit of a bitch and I thought I wouldn't like her. But honestly whoever wrote that blurb was a dirty rotten liar because I loved Ashe. She and Ford might have fought like cat and dog but underneath it they were thick as thieves and I really enjoyed their dynamic.

Having most of the book told in present tense with a small glimpse into the past made me appreciate their friendship. And I liked that they were both clueless about their attraction to each other. But everyone around them was just waiting to see what was going to light the fuse on the powder keg.

Ford was all things great. He respected Ashe's strength and ability but he still wanted to keep her safe and protected. He got all protective whenever he thought someone was interested in her but he didn't act like a dick.

The story was intriguing and I feel like there's a few storylines there that I am dying to see play out over the course of the series. And I really need to read the earlier series because I am loving being introduced to all of these characters but I feel like I'm missing out on their stories.

But for now I am just going to wait and see who's Mr April and who's the lucky lady to have him win her over.

DNF @ chapter 14

just lost interest. the H wasn't the alpha, totally-about-the-heroine type i was hoping for

safety:
- they've known each other since they were kids and H has been with OW in that period. they weren't really pinning after each other back then but still had a bond of a sorts
- heroine was still a virgin b/c of a "latex and birth control" allergy. lol okay. conveniently there were latex-free condoms when it came to the H.. interesting.
- H/h have sex and they're still in the denying they want more phase and H suggests they go on a double-date with his ex. that was a huge turn-of personally

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
=======================
“Mother,” I said. “Last week, I saw Ford with some beauty queen. She had a head full of long, red hair that fell softly down her back in waves. She had beautiful lips and perky tits. And she was about eleven feet tall in five-inch heels. Trust me when I say, I’m not his type.”

I was allergic to latex. I was allergic to birth control.

“I want to do that next time,” I informed him. He shrugged. “There won’t be a next time, remember?” I nodded. “Oh. Yeah.”

“It’s not like I don’t want to date,” she admitted. “I have no reason not to.” She said those words as if she was waiting for me to argue with her. To tell her that I was the reason she shouldn’t. But I chose not to give her what I felt like she was hinting for.

“Hey.” Ashe paused. “Did you know that Linnett, your ex-girlfriend, moved to Kilgore?” I frowned and looked at her.

“We should go on a double date.” I honestly couldn’t believe those words had just come out of my mouth.

Originally, I’d done the dating app with Calloway because I’d wanted to see what he would say to me ‘dating.’ What I hadn’t expected was for him to suggest a double date.

The moment I found myself on my back with my cock—my very bare cock—inside of her to the hilt, I couldn’t move. Couldn’t speak. Could only feel.

I’m absolutely over the virgin heroine thing. Seriously?!!!

Manwhore hero. He kept a latex free condom for a chance that he had sex with heroine, but still slept with other women. Nothing says loving a woman like sleeping with women that aren’t her.

Like an airhead, she somehow finds this romantic?

I've come to the consensus that instead of dealing with the issues at hand most of LLV's characters just ignore it and never address it. We're told about the issues but theres never a confrontation or discussion. Also...if the heroine is a virgin (and she most typically is...) its never acknowledged as being something of importance by the hero.

However, I guess by ignoring all of it then theres no angst and perhaps that's what the author is going for.

In this story the MC's have always had a love/hate relationship. They pick on each other quite a bit but are always there to have each others back. They know everything about each other but never really connected relationship wise. It starts with a bet, heroine loses virginity on top of her desk, BUT both say its a 1 time thing. After that event they just kinda fall into line with each other. Both acknowledge they are attracted to each other but no discussion happens about the past.

Whoever wrote the blurb of this book did a horrible job. And the tittle does not fit the story.
Ashe asks Ford to be a model in this calendar and donate money for her charity (a cat shelter), but he refuses. Then, they make a bet: he'll donate money if she gets into SWAT. And if she doesn't, she has to go in a date with him and eat ramen. That's how she enters the police department, where Ashe works.
These two have known each other since they were babies. They "hate" each other, or at least that's what they say. Honestly, they only call each other names (not mean ones, by the way, only silly stuff; Ashe calls him Chevy or Toyota, and he calls her Soot) and dare each other.
Suddenly, they start seeing each other as more than rivals and their relationship slowly changes.
It was a quick fun read. I enjoyed it :)

Laugh out loud read with all the feels...

I probably say that about all of this author’s stories but they have never failed to make me laugh. To make me misty umpteen times. And always, always leave me craving more. Unique characters with relationships that spark emotion across the spectrum, Ford and Ashe are the latest example of why I am such a devoted fan…

“I’ve loved you for forever... You were just too busy arguing with me to see it.”

Oh my heart... These two were just plain hilarious. From frenemy friction to straight up mushy love their transition from childhood tomfoolery to serious relationship was a no holds barred walk on the almost wild side. Dares used to be (and still are) the norm even as broken bones may have been left behind years ago (we hope). In close quarters again, they seized the opportunity for more shenanigans and a whole lotta love…

If I was left with questions I ignored them (for now) as I know there will answers to come… And more of this fun and loving duo and a family that just gets (delightfully) bigger and bigger.

Swear Mary mother of all I was just not fucking ready for it. For them. Like!!!! HTF did we get here already?.

Ford and Ashe are double trouble. The best of friends who love to hate eachother and occasionally throw a punch in here or there.

There is no doubting their chemistry because these pair are damn near made for eachother. All it took was a bet. Oh and the threat of moving to shove a rocket up his stubborn ass.

Ashe is fierce.I immediately fell in love with her take no shit grab a bull by the horns attitude.

Ford is a stubborn loyal to hot hothead who I just couldn't get enough of.

The fact they had the kind of friendship that made their relationship just make so much sense had me all up in my feels. The history of it all.

I loved their love. The raw tension that pulsed whenever they were together. The banter and bickering that never failed to make me cry laughing. The unmistakable loyalty between two people who know eachother better than they know themselves. Fucking magic I tell you. The growth of them both as characters is phenomenal and whilst their story isn't all rainbows and unicorns. It's 100% true to them and their wicked ways.

Lani never fails me. She continues to give me depth and substance with her characters and their journeys. The side characters NEVER FAIL ME. I never know what to expect except that I know she won't do me wrong. Also they may be sitting up there with Cheyenne and Sam as top favourites because I loved them that much!!.

Ashe and Ford’s story grabbed me from the beginning. I enjoyed their banter and the fact that she was a badass fighter in a “I’m so cool you won’t know what is happening until it’s late” way. And Ford was so supportive of her. *happy sigh* I just wanted to read about them forever.
I can’t wait to see if there will be any conclusion to the serial killer story. That part of the book really intrigued me.

3.75 ‘Love To Hate’ Stars

Oh boy, talk about fighting like cats and dogs!!! Ford and Ashe are the definition of mortal enemies since childhood, and now all that banter and friction exploded into the most intense of romances! OMG, the banter was just so SPOT ON!!!

These SWAT 2.0’s are as delicious as they covers point too, and Mr. March’s story was no exception, I enjoyed the heck out of it, who knew that this deep seated childhood nemesis could turn into a love this bright, when they barely managed to not strangle each other on every encounter?! LOL

I was a senior this year and should be living it up.
Yet, every fucking time I turned the corner, there was Soot, making my life a living hell.

Their back and forth was indeed the highlight of the book for me. Well, that and the scorching hot sexual tension in the air at every of those clashes! The saying that it is a ‘fine line between love and hate’ couldn’t be more suited for these two. Their banter and then their unleashed desire from the very first time they gave in… WOW, just wow…

That was right. What we were doing wasn’t anything. It meant nothing. It felt like… everything.

Ashe and I didn’t work.
We fought like cats and dogs.
We were attracted to each other.
But attraction couldn’t carry a relationship.

If I was so into their banter and their chemistry, why not rate it higher you may ask, well, one thing, a PERSONAL peeve of mine, but I just dislike that Ashe was an inexperienced virgin – no matter the crazy justifications here, because hello, Ford had the solution at hand their very first time, lol, so why not use that solution with other men – and Ford was anything but. Not only that, but she had a front row seat to all his past, and even though they were enemies and weren’t exactly pining for each other – sorry but the virginity kind of discredited a that bit for me – Ford does say more than once that deep down he had loved her since then. If you know me, you know that is one of my peeves too, because come on,I’m all for the enemies to lovers, but don’t bring the ‘loved you forever’ to the mix when you clearly weren’t in love with each other when you hurt the other by rubbing others in theirs faces. Again I’ll say, it’s MY peeve her, but that declaration just makes my eye twitch every time it pops up when the actions prove the opposite. And the Linnet thing in the present?! I’ll not reveal so not to spoil, but I so wanted to nut punch Ford for that! Okay, mini rant over, because like I said, I sooooo loved their relationship, and they antics were AWESOME, so much so I have no doubt this would have been another five stars for me, and one of my LLV’s fav, if not for those two issues.

I couldn’t stop myself from loving her.
It was just impossible.
We may fight constantly like cats and dogs, but these feelings were something we’d been fighting since we were children.

Lani Lynn Vale is truly one of the most gifted authors I’ve ever read, and no wonder my addiction to her words is a ever present need in my heart. Only LLV could make me devour and love a couple, even with the small personal issues it nagged me about them. All the secondary characters that I’m dying to hear more about, the strong presence of all the parents – OMG, Trance and Viddy and Tru and Torren!!! – the LLV OG characters, and so much potential for future books and series, just leaves me giddy with excitement every. Single. Time. And now after watching the silent and broody Hayes, I can not wait for next Month. Bet Mr. April will be as epic as they come! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

“You’re mine, Ashe,” I told her bluntly. “You’re mine, and I’m yours.

“Turns out, we love each other.” Ford shrugged. “Hate is there sometimes, too. But mostly love.”

Ashe and Ford's arguing about everything got old so very fast. Yet it wasn't hard to see that it was easy for them to go from arguing to lovers, the old saying of a fine line between love and hate being true. There was a lot in this one that I wanted to know more of, things that were sort of dropped. Sure there was a note from the author at the end that she was setting things up for later books, but it left this one very light.

Review by Lisa Kane

I keep reading that this is an enemy to lovers romance, but I wouldn't say that Ashe Trammel and Ford Spurlock are exactly enemies. They were raised together, but they were rivals. Each trying to outdo each other with pranks. As they got older, Ashe is disgusted with the parade of girls that seem to come and go in Ford's life.

Ashe is a huge cat lover and will do anything to save the innocent little lives. So when an opportunity comes along for Ford to pose in a calendar aimed at making money for cat shelters, Ashe wants Ford to do it. Ford has no interest, but uses this as a chance to make a bet with Ashe. Ashe ups the bet and swears she will make the SWAT team. This bet leads Ashe to follow a path in criminal psychology. Let's face it, her family has pull in the department and unfair as it may seem, she receives special treatment.
This is no hardship to Ford, who is forced to realize his true feelings for Ashe. When it seems that he might be losing her in his life, he steps up to the plate.

There's some intrigue in this story, but I have to admit I haven't read every book of Ms. Vale's. I found myself lost more than a few times, as this was supposed to be a stand alone, but there are intertwining characters from other books. I found myself wishing for a family tree to be able to follow all the history.

But aside from that, Maybe Swearing Will Help is funny and sexy and just another great release from this author!

4 Star Review Maybe Swearing Will Help (Swat Next Generation 2.0 #3)  by Lani Lynn Vale

This is Ford Spurlock and MC princess Ashe Trammel’s enemies to friends to lovers story.

They have been adversaries since birth, so their history is long and complicated, but underneath it all is a relationship built on friendship. They fight like cats and dogs and yet there is a fine line between love and hate. Particularly as the sexual tension between them is building.

I liked Ford, he is certainly an alpha male who was frustrated and confused about the feelings that Ashe brings to the surface. While Ashe is attracted to him, she knows the smart thing to do is avoid him.

Ashe is shocked when Ford agrees to be Mr March in the charity calendar as she was sure he would say no.

Ashe is a strong, feisty young woman that I greatly admired. The banter and humour that arc between them had me laughing and smiling, whilst their chemistry is intense and steamy. The connection between them is obvious to everyone around them.

There were times that I laughed, I cried, I wanted to scream but through it all I was invested in Ford and Ashe’s story. The addition of mystery and suspense added to my enjoyment.

Maybe Swearing Will Help was an entertaining read that I enjoyed.

From heartstopping to heartwarming, Lani Lynn Vale definitely makes her presence known. At first glimpse, she entices with humor and then tempts the senses with so much more. Maybe Swearing will Help is endearingly, alluring. Ford and Ashe sneak up on your emotional blindside to wreak havoc on your heart. A story like this one is easy to love. The hard part is saying goodbye when the end has come and gone.

No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.

Ford and Ashe’s book was a cute enemies to lovers book. The type where Ford was allowed to pick on Ashe but no one else better touch her. Most of the story was sweet, subtle attraction...just thinking they won’t work. But boy, they so do. Steamy with just a tiny bit of a cat mystery going on. Entertaining and fun to read.

It’s always been said that the boys who treat girls the worst out on the playground and ultimately whenever they’re around each other actually like them in a way they don’t like anyone else, and even though it’s a backward way of looking at things, for Ford Spurlock and Ashe Trammel, that seems to be the epitome of their love/hate relationship - one that started when they were babies and has carried through to adulthood. But now the stakes are so much higher than tattling on him for throwing dirt in her eyes.

Ford and Ashe’s rivalry has been epic since it started; they bicker like an old married couple and pull pranks on each other just rile one another up. It’s interesting to see the progression of their friendship and when realization downs on both of them that what they feel is so much more than frustration and disdain. They’ve been pretty oblivious up to this point, which is partly due to the fact that as a biker princess, Ashe has always been off-limits to Ford and anyone else for that matter. But while Ford has always walked that line 100% of the time, somewhere along the way, things changed and he’s ready to go all-in and with one small bet, he’s hoping to show Ashe that he’s all grown up and worth the risk.

I’m a big fan of the suspense and danger that Lani Lynn Vale weaves into many of her stories, and because of the nature of both Ford and Ashe’s career choices, those elements play a role in Maybe Swearing Will Help and add to the dynamics of the plot line in a way that gives readers the opportunity to be eyewitnesses to what’s unfolding and potentially figuring out the case before even the characters do.

Not sure why, but this story wasn't... On the same level as others. I mean, it had Lani vibe, but... Maybe because I'm not a big fan, when H and h are frenemies and it takes years for them to finally pull their heads of theirs asses to see, what's obvious.
I like ex drama, but I'm not disappointed when there's none. But here I needed some drama from Fords ex. Don't know why, but I feel kinda robbed. Lol.
In all it's OK story, just something was missing for me.

Maybe Swearing Will Help continues SWAT generation 2.0 series and I gobbled this one up as quickly as the other ones! In this edition, we get Ford Spurlock (parents Trance and Viddy from Kevlar to my Vest) and Ashe Trammel (parents Torren and Tru from Charge to my Line). Ford and Ashe have known each other since they were babies. They have bickered since they learned to talk.

I think Maybe Swearing is kind of a frienemies to lovers book. Ashe and Ford certainly banter a ton and have pranked and dared each other a lot over the years. However, Ford was protective of her (kind of like "Only I can make fun of my family"). Now that they are older and thrown back together, their banter quickly becomes HOT. I enjoyed both of these two together. They were fun!

Maybe Swearing Will Help has a really interesting sub-plot that these two are trying to figure out. There is the serial killer Ashe is researching for her Masters degree and then there are the strange cat thefts in Kilgore. Both added a lot of mystery and suspense to the plot, which I always appreciate! Fans of all the Lani Lyn Vale series will continue to enjoy her books, but new readers can start here and not miss a beat!

I'm really starting to fall head over heals for LLV's characters.
The men all seem to be the right mix of sweet, funny and completely alpha. The females are strength, determination and also hilarious.

This book was no exception. A lifetime of history growing up in the Dixie Warden's Ford and Ashe despise each other. A life time of the constant push and pull without realising the thin line that is their love-hate relationship.

despite their hatred Ford and Ashe have always been best-friends, they will follow each other to the ends of the earth if they have to, or do what ever it takes to make them stay.

Ashe volunteers at the local cat shelter all she wants is Ford to donate his charity money to her shelter, all Ford wants is a Date so they make a wager. Ashe joins the force and tries out for the SWAT team and Ford will do the photo shoot and donate his money, if she can't do either Ford will still shoot but Ashe has to join him at the new restaurant in town.

But when Ashe tells Ford that she's leaving for Dallas in Four Months, that boy's world implodes and everything his denied will fight tooth and nail to make her see, see that Ashe Trammel belongs with Ford Spurlock in Kilgore. And maybe, Ashe will admit that she knew he was her home all along.

Throughout this book you get to see why Ford and Ashe are so magnetic. He knows her inside and out. Ashe doesn't need to voice anything for him to know almost exactly what's going down, for the most part it works the other way as well.

Now I did have to message my cousin who has time and time again recommend LLV to find who Ford Suprlock's daddy is. At this point I've only
read the orginal SWAT boys and the Valentine Brothers. Shocking I know! Up until this point I had been able to keep up with other series characters making an appearance. But because I hadn't read the Dixie Warden's I had absolutely no idea that Trance was Ford's daddy. Thankfully Tru and Torren had made a cameo impact in Centre Mass that I knew exactly where Ashe belonged.

My only recommendation for this book, although it is a Stand Alone if you want the full picture, to understand how the families connect, the friendships and bonds were formed, then go start The Hero's of The Dixie Warden's with Sebastian and Baylee in Lights To My Siren

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Ashe and Ford grew up together. Their fathers are members of the Dixie Wardens MC and friends. They have always had an attraction they fought with hate and dares. Although when the chips were down they were always right there for one another. Their parents say they were horrible children. Now as adults they still appear to go together like oil and water. Yet, that chemistry is hotter than ever. A dare and a bet changes the course of their relationship. What was once hate is finally something more they will admit.

I always say how much I love the characters that Lani Lynn Vale writes. That is true, her characters have that unique quality of coming across the pages as real people. Her books never feel like fiction as much as they feel like real life. That could not be truer here. It would have been so easier for Ford and Ashe to continue on in their hate of one another. They would have eventually found other people and maybe even had been happy. Yet they decided that as much as they get on one another's nerves at times they have a love worth fighting for. We see at different times just how much they have truly always cared about each other.

We see two people who fit so perfectly together that their differences don't matter as much. They can easily call one another on their crap and have separate interest without feeling guilty. They seem to fall into an easy relationship although I think it is more they simply accept what was always under the surface.

I will say I almost gave this book only four stars. I KNOW! I love Lani Lynn Vale and all of her books are so great. However, this one left me with some questions. She did make a note saying she knew there would be questions and they would be cleared up in future books. Now, that does NOT mean it is a cliff hangar. It is not. There are just a couple of questions that need to be answered but I can totally see why they would need to be answered in future books. Now if that isn't critic enough for you then let me say the Fun Fact at the beginning of chapter seven made me laugh so hard. I had to call my brother and share that with him. This book is a MUST read!I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
