OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
For such a small book, this has quite a lot of useful information in it. I bought it on Kindle so I would have maps on my phone without using data, but it wasn't that useful for that. It was useful to get an idea of the top places to visit and prioritising what to see, which is important on a short trip. If you just want a bit of help without a lot of detail, and a portable guide with handy tips and info, then this is a great guide to have.
This pocket series from the Lonely Planet guides is really useful and practical. I have purchased the same series of guides for other cities (Tokyo, Berlin, etc.) and I have always had a good time. Precise, essential information, things to do and see that just can't be missing plus tips on local culture, shopping and some goodies!
