KPD Motorcycle Patrol #5

Sinners are Winners

Rate this book
He saw her from across a crowded ballpark and knew she was about to change his life.

Yes, he realizes just how cliché that really is, but the moment his eyes locked on her, he knew that she was the one.

At least, the one that royally screwed him over. The one responsible for his demotion and the subsequent disciplinary action taken against him before he’d even gotten out of the probationary period with Kilgore Police Department.

It all started with a kiss.

***

Saylor Rae Spada tried to mind her business. She also tried to not get involved in petty disputes.

However, from the moment she saw him sitting next to her at a professional baseball game, a game she didn’t even want to be at but was dragged to by her blind date, she couldn’t look away.

Then the kiss cam came on, featuring none other than her and the handsome stranger.

Without missing a beat, he kissed her.

Then her blind date decided to pull a knife and try to stab him.

From that point forward, she’s done nothing but cause him trouble.

Trouble that he’s starting to find increasingly adorable.

From the moment their eyes met at a baseball game, love was in the air. I could feel it. They couldn't look away from each other. And then all hell broke loose! Six months later, they haven't seen or forgotten about the other, but a wedding brings them back together, in style, and the chemistry between them is as hot as ever.

I loved the connection between Lock and Saylor. The fact that they were connected by six degrees and that even though they knew the same people, they somehow never met, intrigued me. I loved that Saylor had unique characteristics that I wouldn't have guessed if the author didn't describe them. I'm still trying to figure out why they were necessary, as they didn't actually play a part in the story, but I liked the concept anyway. However, as much as I enjoyed Saylor and her quick wit, she did something that made me cringe. It's something that whenever a heroine does it, I have to question their sanity. When your life is in danger and those who are qualified to protect you try to do so, do as they say! Unless you yourself are qualified, stop thinking that you can take care of yourself in the face of dangerous circumstances. You can't. Unless you have had tactical training, have excelled at some form of martial art, or are a keen gunslinger (or something of the sort), shut up, sit down, and do as your told by the professionals!

Okay, so while I enjoyed Saylor (aside from that last little bit), the star of the show was Lock. This man was insanely fine and Saylor said it best:
I really liked who Lock was as a person. He was kind, caring, sweet, possessive and hot.

The characters and the romance were, as always, topnotch. I even got the chance to revisit with some of my favorite people. I'm so in love with everyone! With a bit of suspense and creepiness to keep things lively, Sinners Are Winners was a winner in my book. There was one person introduced in this story that I'm really forward to getting to know better... Malachi Stokes. His story sounds like it would be heartbreaking and I just know that LLV will make it all worth it!!

You would think that after reading so many LLV books they would start feeling like the same spiel but Ms. Vale manages to keep surprising me with her unique stories. She has this knack for putting together plots that aren’t afraid to stretch the imagination a bit even as they entertain.

Lock and Saylor were a great match. Saylor shook up Lock’s world and ignited a spark that wouldn’t be extinguished. She was the kind of trouble that Lock couldn’t resist. Lock was sexy af, protective, and sweet.

The story was true to that LLV signature voice we’ve come to expect. The pace and imagery was solid. The plot held my interest. Definitely another great addition to the series.

I love everything about this book and this series and this author. Lani Lynn Vale writing style gets me every time, doesn’t matter what series I’m reading and she has absolutely delivered one heck of a fantastic romance with her new book “Sinners and Winners”. She sure knows how to combine heart, chemistry, swoon worthy hero’s and sassy heroines (you make these men drop to their knees) and romance seamlessly within in a fantastic story. I need more stories from this series, any new series and any other books from this author. I need them now lol. Always leaves me wanting more and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Everyone has to have a Lani Lynn Vale books in their library’s and on their to read list. Happy reading!!

Good but wasn’t great.
I feel like it was really short... maybe it’s just me? I would’ve liked a little more. But it was still good.

5 ‘She Was It For Me’ Stars

Sweet Baby Jesus! Just when I thought this series could’t get any better, there comes a new KPD Motorcycle Patrol Alpha and BAM! Instant Best Book Bookfriend top! Not only that, but every single couple going straight to my OTP list! Seriously, Lock and Saylor are the definition of #RelationshipGoals: soulmate level of PERFECTION!

I’m sorry, I know I’m repeating myself within this series, but there is no way to, these couples really are everything!

It was death by pussy, but oh, what a way to go.

I’d do anything for her, even eat all the green beans.

First of all, so amazing to see the children, all grown up, of not only one of our fav couples, but TWO! Lock, son of Downy and Memphis – Bang Switch, KPD SWAT series – and Saylor, Kettle and Addie’s baby girl – Halligan to My Axe, Heroes of Dixie Warden series – couldn’t have been better paired up.

Instantly attracted to one another, their first meeting is impactful for both – to say the least, lol – and when after six month later they met again, and there is a change that they will forever be separated by distance, Lock, shows why he is now one of my ultimate book boyfriend, and does not let Saylor go without a fight! SWOON!

This girl, I thought. She was it for me.

I adored how Sinners Are Winners was set up! The insta lust/attraction turning into slow burn (even with LLV usual fast paced development which I soak up like a thirsty man in a desert) of a naturally developing love, stick a fork in me, because I’m done for! We get all the feeling we crave, and so many more emotions that we where not counting for, but welcome with open arms. His love and devotion are two of those. The strong familial is another. Not only do we get to fall in love with two amazing main characters, but we get to experience and be conquered, all over again by their families, and specially the OG LLV couple. So be prepared for the swoonfest, because with a Hero like Lock, the hits just keep on coming! The swoon hits that is, lol. ;)

“Can I see it now?” she asked into the darkness.
I blinked.
“See what?” I asked, hoping that she wasn’t asking about what I thought she was asking about.
“Don’t play dumb, Lachlan Downy, Junior,” she ordered. “I’m talking about that ring in your shorts that is so close to your cock head that I can’t decide which one I want to look at.”

These KPD Motorcycle Patrol has me hooked like you wouldn’t believe! Lani Lynn Vale manages with these love stories, as Lock and Saylor’s is proof, to check all my romance loving addict’s heart boxes. I seriously couldn’t ask for more. All the sweetness, humor, suspense, steaminess and pure ROMANCE! Yep, it just keep knocking it out of the park. And now with one of my most anticipated LLV’s EVER coming next, I’m dying to finally get my grabby hands on Lucas’ book. I just know a sob-fest is coming and I. Can’t. Feaking. WAIT!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

“Expressing emotion has never really been something that came easy to me…not until there was you. Now, every single day that I wake up next to you, I want to tell you that you changed my life. That you made me want to live it instead of just experience it. Every single day, I wake up and I smile.”

Sparks fly the moment Lock and Saylor's eye meet and it's a fast paced race to who can get their close off fastest. Ok well maybe not that quick but they are instantly and undeniably attracted to each other.

Lock is not as over the top, chest beating ALPHA as most of Lani's men but he's definitely all man. Saylor is quirky, sassy but what I like most about her is she does not hesitate to let Lock know what will please her and she's not shy about wanting to please him. It's refreshing to have a female lead who owns her sexuality.

Sinners Are Winners is more of a true traditional romance to me, there wasn't a lot of drama and the suspense was level was low, making it a quick, fun sexy read!

If you like a light-hearted read, this will do.

I like Lock, he’s a guy who’s willing to start a relationship and not a manwhore or at least he didn’t give me that vibe in this book.
He knew what he wanted and went for it, no playing around bs here. I also find his efforts to keep h and constantly pursuing her endearing.

Nothing much to say about heroine, she’s OK I guess, kinda pathetic but bearable.😌

I think the epilogue could have done better.
Oh it’s a HEA alright. But Lock being a typical silly married man, he forgot their 10 years anniversary.😑

Safety :
No virgins.
They had STDs and birth control talks, no condoms used.
No OW. Mild OM drama.
HEA. 10 years later, married had kids.

The epilogue brought it from a 5 to a 2. I like to end my HEA’s on a high, and this one didn’t do that. Instead, it has me feeling.....blah. You remember what’s important to you and clearly she wasn’t high on his priority list. This is just my opinion. Don’t let it stop you from reading any of her books. This epilogue may give you completely different feelings.

Lani is a great author and usually she leaves me wanting to read more of her books. I will absolutely read her in the future!

Lust at first sight doesn't even begin to compare the connection between Lock and Saylor.

For two people who have ALOT of interconnected friendships it's crazy to think they'd never met before that baseball game. Holy wow that game really got the ball rolling in more ways than just one.

The minute their eyes connected with eachother the chemistry just burst to life. Cheesy? Fuck yes. But the truth. I felt that instant connection between them almost like a Sam and Cheyenne moment from Boomtown!. I just knew they had a wicked time coming.

Lock, sweet protective possessive sexy as holy hell lock just ticked all the damn boxes and then some. I lurv a man who will fight for anyone who's wronged and thats exactly what he did for Saylor even at the risk of his job. The man got the best of his daddy in him let me tell you.

Saylor, sweet sassy quirky miss independent Saylor moved in the hopes of pursuing her dreams. Unfortunately for her she made an enemy who was about to make life real difficult. Despite all the shit she still made a place for herself despite the odds.

6 months after a scorching kiss, undeniable chemistry and good ol junk punch and she just happens to walk into his home unbeknownst to either of them that they'd be having this reunion. The chemistry of it all was still there burning just as bright as the day they met and let me tell you it didn't stop there. They bounce down off eachother perfectly!! The sweet almost gave me a toothache. The sexy had me fanning myself like a virgin in sexshop and the banter had chuckling to no end.

Their story for the most part is light and sweet and all kinds of delicious. Lani wrote a gorgeous story of love, family and friendships that had me locked in from the first page. The connection between all the characters is undeniable. The relationship between Lock and Saylor continued to grow and evolve throughout the story whilst they learned to navigate with eachother through the drama. The side characters as always make for great entertainment throughout and also gives us a chance to check in to see where they're at now. The story it's self progressed nicely giving us a little of everything. Seamlessly written and packs a little punch it's safe to say Saylor and Lock absolutely did it for me in every way. LOVED THEIR STORY.

Sinners are Winners was absolutely amazing!! I am so in love with Saylor and Lock and their love. This story was sexy, emotional and HOT AF!! Lani Lynn Vale really brought out the fire between them, my fingers were practically singed right off the pages! The spitfire banter + fiery chemistry + engaging storyline = Another LLV five star winner!!

Gah!! I seriously can not devour these books fast enough! I have loved the KPD Motorcycle Patrol Series since book one but there was truly something special about Saylor and Lock. I loved their connection and how the author tied in their potent attraction, emotional intensity and love of family into such a compelling story. This is by far one of my favorite books she has written to date. Vale can do no wrong!! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Sexy goodness…

Oh how Saylor and Lock heated up the kindle pages! This author’s characters are always real, funny, strong, and snarky and this pair rose to the top of that list at lightning speed. From their first unorthodox meeting. Through each funny/snappy conversation. Following each family gathering and an unforgettable wedding, this duo loved and laughed and grew closer, me falling in love with them every step of the way…

Throw in incredible relationships with their family, familiar, much-loved characters and an epilogue that was icing on the romance cake, made this another delicious, one sitting read.

I was really enjoying this until the epilogue, what an absolute dick. I thought that the point of an all-consuming love was that it consumed you. Not fricking golf. Nearly gave this 1 star for that alone.

Re-read... and oh my fraking frakiness... I fraking HATE that epilogue. Yeah, yeah I get that that could be real life... but, mate? This isn't... none of these books are... and Saylor should've got the epilogue that she deserved. What an absolute and utter dick. The epilogue ruined anything that I might've remotely liked about this... and I wish that I had read my review before had re-read this... cos, then, I wouldn't have bothered. Yep - this is how much I hated it. Really. And I am so tempted to go down to 1 star.

5 SMOOCHES!

One of my favorite things to do is to sit down each month with the new Lani Lynn Vale book and catch up with a group of old friends. I’ve been reading her books and these characters’ stories on a monthly basis for so many years now that I am utterly invested in them and this amazing East Texas world Vale has created. The KPD Motorcycle Patrol series is a next generation series based upon the stories of the children of the lead couples from some of Vale’s earlier series, and in the case of this book, both the hero and the heroine are children of original lead couples from The Heroes of the Dixie Wardens MC and Code 11-KPD SWAT.

Saylor Spada is the daughter of Adeline and Tiago “Kettle” Spada. Originally from Benton, Louisiana, she’s relocated to the Longview/Kilgore area to get out from under her father, and his MC’s, watch and stand on her own two feet. Lachlan Downey, Junior, or Lock, is a police officer and the son of the Kilgore SWAT team negotiator, Lachlan Downy, Senior and his wife, Memphis.

Lani kicked off this romance with her take on a meet cute – complete with a kiss-cam moment and junk punch viral video. Lock and Saylor had incredible natural chemistry, and this is about as close to insta-love as Vale gets, which is probably why the couple doesn’t see each other again for six months. Unfortunately, when they do, it’s essentially on the eve of Saylor’s move back home to Benton. Lock has to pull off a miracle to keep her in Kilgore, and much to Kettle’s chagrin, he does just that. Theirs is a bit of a whirlwind romance, and they fell hard and fast for each other. They definitely had insanely hot chemistry, but on top of that, they also adored each other and were so sweet together. Lani always includes a suspenseful element to her stories, and this part of the story seemed to involve almost everyone.

Sinners are Winners is a fantastic blend of the past and the future in Vale’s world. Full of all the heat, heart and humor I crave in Vale’s writing, this was an addictively sweet, sexy and suspenseful addition to a fantastic series. Sinners are Winners by Lani Lynn Vale gets five smooches from me!

This series just gets better. And the fact that all the characters are mixed and matched in so many different ways, I dont know how you keep track Ms Vale.

Lock and Saylor had a hilarious first encounter and what happened is something that she will never hear the end of. But from the first time they met, they felt the attraction. However they didn't get together again until 6 months later when their friends got married and they were the best man and bridesmaid and then there was no stopping them at all...

But in all of this happily blissfull romance there is an undercurrent of suspense as well that will definitely make you want to keep reading to find out who this sick weirdo is and what is going to happen next.

Like I said I love this series and the whole dynamic is freaking fascinating on how they all fit in together. This characters definitely live in a world of their own making which started all the way from her first series and will have you wanting to read it all together just to see who fits in where. I cant wait to read more of this world of characters

A good read but not my favourite in this series.

And the main reason for it was that I couldnt really connect with Lock and Sailor or their relationship.
I didnt particularly like Lock, he was kind of selfish. And Sailor was ok but a pushover in my opinion and I couldnt really relate with her.

However, one thing I always admire in LLV s characters is that they all have some sort of real life issues, whether it s a medical condition or ailment,an handicap or no job. She portrays her
Chacarters in real life bodies too, where not everyone has a stunning body and a stunning face

Lastly, the ending was a little rushed and I felt a little disappointed with the epilogue. I do get the romance novels have to finish on a positive note and have to have an happy ending but these endings do feel a little all the same.
I still like them and enjoy them but knowing what to expect before reading it takes a bit of the enjoyment away.

It started at a baseball game, Lock saw the black haired beauty who haunted his thoughts and ruined his career. On the eve of moving back home Saylor wishes she had a way to fix the problem at hand, a job, but all of her efforts have been foiled and she has one last thing to do and that is being part of the wedding and making the cake. With her apartment all packed up though she is borrowing a kitchen and ends up on Lock's door. Lock wants to know more about Saylor but with her leaving it is impossible but what if he could bide some time?

Another fantastic story for Lani Lynn Vale. I loved this, Lock is a sweeter male character and not quite as alpha male as the other books but it works. Loved Saylor, she is sweet but feisty. Love the moments with her dad, perfect.

It was a fun, fluffy, read but there were some things that kept me from totally enjoying it. My first problem is the fact that the h is deaf but it NEVER comes up. My telling you that she is deaf isn't even a spoiler. The fact that she has curly hair is a bigger part of the story than the fact that she has a cochlear implant. It could have added an interesting layer to the story but it is just mentioned and then never really brought up again.

My other big problem is the epilogue. I'm sure it was meant to show a normal loving couple, well into their marriage, and the problems they deal with but it just left me finishing the book pissed at the H (which isn't the way I like to put down a book).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A romance that made me laugh a lot !
I laughed a lot with Lock and Saylor (so many misunderstandings but also such funny scenes !! Their first meeting but also the post-wedding scene in the toilets xD) and even though it's not an absolute crush, I had a great time reading their romance !
In short, a light and fun romance perfect for entertaining !
Hey
It LLV man. SO you know it's going to some down-home, down to earth romance with some sort of danger thrown n the mix.
Whenever I see a LLV book, I immediately grab it and save it for a cozy time. There is something about her books and their content, that's a soothing balm in the romance landscape.
People who have real hardships and real jobs, or none. People who eat real food and heroines who have real bodies. Characters who have real-life issues, like a handicap, or medical ailment. Her books bring a taste fo real life and I appreciate them to no end.
This one gets three stars mostly because I was not a fan of the Epilogue.
I love LLV’s books.
They can suck you in, are so easy to read and no matter how many books you read of hers they never feel like it’s a rinse and repeat type of writing.
Lock and Saylor are in Insta Lust as soon as their eyes meet at a baseball game. Throw in a date with a complete moron who spends more time chatting up the girl next to them, a kiss cam and a tiny assault caught on tv.
Things start to Spiral.
Saylor is struggling to make ends meet, especially after the voyage from the baseball game went viral. Every job she applied for, rejected her because of it even though she has a degree. The only way she’s making ends meet is through her cake making business.
Lock is basically demoted from the viral footage and is placed on the KPD Motorcycle Patrol team.
When these two meet again at their friend’s wedding, sparks fly even hotter.
I really like these two characters. They have chemistry and banter. I did like the protective and possessiveness because it wasn’t over the top. I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing older characters from past books again.
I did like the portrayal of the antagonist and how they were all linked to him in some way. It all really came full circle.
I liked this story but I didn't love it like the others. I had a hard time connecting with Saylor. I don't expect all the heroines to be the same, ie. strong, kick ass, etc. but I need them to have some back bone which to me Saylor didn't have much. She just went along with whatever was asked of her. Growing up with a father like Kettle and all his cohorts I can understand why though. I liked Lock - he's a bit rough around the edges but then again all the Downy men are the same. It was good to catch up with Adeline and Kettle.
Disclaimer: An eARC was provided via Wildfire Marketing PR and the Author as part of the Blog Tour. The Thoughts, opinions & feelings expressed in the review are therefore, my own.
Lock and Saylor have had one of the weirdest start to what would seem like one of the slowest romance in the history of HEAs. But it was a start that had me in splits; and one that made sure that my attention didn’t divert from the book till the last page was read (I know it’s something I have said about most of Ms. Vale’s books; but if the hat fits *shrugs*)
Ever since they ‘met’ each other at a baseball game; the attraction between Lock and Saylor is something neither of them forgot nor did they forget the disastrous consequences of that one kiss they shared live and one that went viral. Six months and a wedding later; their attraction is as string as ever; and one that they do end up acting upon – and that’s when their relationship picks up speed.
I usually end up adoring the heroines in Ms. Vale’s books – but here it is Lock who ends up stealing the show – he was a beautiful human inside and out; but it is how he was with his family and later Saylor, that ended up stealing my heart! Their romance was sweet at its core, with moments that figuratively put my e-Reader on fire! 😉 Plus, we get to revisit our favourite couples from not only this series, but also from interconnected series, so if you haven’t already picked up her books, I promise snippets of other couples in this book, would peak up your curiosity to read her backlist!
Ms. Vale also introduced a new character who has intrigued me right from the start – Malachi Stokes; I am really hoping that it will be the next book in series, for I am positively salivating to read what looks to be a heart – breaking story!
This is my first book by Lani and it most definitely won't be my last.
Sinners and Winners focus around Saylor and Lock, and there hot as hell love story.
These two first met by chance, and it wasn’t the nicest way, it was quite embarrassing really, and it was a long 6 months before they met up again but after that second time meeting, it was a full force for these two. The connection between the two of them was pulsating, addictive and insanely intense. What starts with delicious lust, turns into hot as hell passion and love, and the authors weave her words together to create an unforgettable love story that takes us down a steamy, hot and intense road with a few twists and turns thrown in to keep us on our toes, and that it did!
Lock was sweet, and he adored Saylor, that was made known, and he would do just about anything for this woman.
Saylor is sassy, witty and a little spitfire, yet she has a soft sweet side to her too.
These two together? HOT DAMN. It was enough to melt my kindle in my hands. The pages were all but on fire but even though it holds so much heat, it also shows that these two aren’t just capable in the bedroom, but they are outside of it too. The things these two were willing to do for each other made my heart flutter and made my heart grow that little bit more.
This book will have you fanning yourself while swooning over the love that grows between these two as the book progressed. It was enough to make the coldest of hearts melt.
This author created a love story, that people dream about but added it with a few twists and turns. It was all-consuming, enticing, deliciously hot, addictive and a story I just couldn’t get enough of.
5 Hot and Swoony Stars!
Let it be known that I am a big fan of Lani Lynn Vale and also of this KPD Motorcycle Patrol Series. Considering this is Book 5 you might say, I have been hooked for a while.
I have loved them all and enjoyed this one also. But I will alert you, with this one, it helps to have a little background before you start. Lani Lynn brings all things into focus as the story goes on, but a little helps a lot.
How Lock, the new kid to the motorcycle unit get’s anything done is beyond me. Actually, how he ended up in this unit should have warned him to begin with. But then, common sense has been known to be curbed, sometimes by something as simple as a smile.
Saylor is just trying to enjoy her life before. She is dealing with the pitfalls and preparing to accept reality in a sad way. Her hobby wants to become a full time job. Sadly, that is not what her quest in life is about and she decides she needs to correct that.
Kiss Cams can be fun...most of the time… but maybe not when the person you are kissing is not the person you came to the game with. I started off laughing at the antics as these two got to know each other. But as their relationship grew I found myself wanting to protect them, much like they were doing for each other. By the end, I was cheering for them and I was all too happy with Lock’s final gestures. Yes this story has a HEA ending, and it was so much needed.
Lani Lynn Vale, you have had me wrapped up since book one and this one has me looking forward to the next installment. Well done indeed.
It is VERY rare that I give a LLV book below a 5 star rating and the reason this one didn’t get it was because I thought it was rushed. I just felt like there could have been more. Was it bad? ABSOLUTELY NOT! It was good just not one of my favorite reads of hers.
Lock was a great character I just felt like there wasn’t enough character development. Like I didn’t connect with him the way I did with her others. I loved him but I was constantly wishing for more. Maybe it was because there really was nothing going on with him other than Saylor and the issues surrounding her. I felt like the sexy time was fab but there was just something missing.
Saylor was absolutely precious! The whole wedding scene was great and you knew that there was chemistry between the two of them instantly! They were meant for one another! Seeing all the Dixie Wardens, especially Silas (even if it was a split second) was so sweet! They are truly a family and they all interconnect and that makes it even better. Kettle was hilarious!!!
Now, the epilogue was disappointing 😭I wanted more and I wanted to shoot him in the junk! AAAAAND to top all that off we have a prologue for the next book that left my jaw hanging because the new character was introduced and I’m scratching my dang head🤔🤔🤔I’m very intrigued as to what is coming!
All in all it was a great book I just wanted a bit more.
This is my first from this author. I really like the tempo of the story and that the characters were unknowingly connected through a few mutual acquaintances. This story has the strong family aspect from both Lock and Saylor. As their relationship develops, we see a change, through other's eyes, leading us to swoon with the others as the story goes along. Though it can never be just that easy, there's a niggling in the background and a suspense that keeps you flipping through to see if you're right, and if you are, you need to find out why. Being that this is book 5, I'm going to have to go back and read the others as the characters are interesting and intriguing and now I want to know more about their world. ~Shirley
"My review is so not going to give this book the justice it deserves. I love this series and Lock & Saylor's story is a wonderful addition to it.
Their instant connection when they met, and then the way the storyline played out within the first few hours of their meeting had me laughing and cringing simultaneously. Then when they reconnected six months later I knew then and there this book was going to be every bit as good as the previous stories in this series.
Lani has such a gift in the way she writes her stories I truly found it difficult to put this book down. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book" ~Sharon
