Arrow's Edge MC #2

Edge Of Darkness

Rate this book
Road rash and Jack meets handcuffs and street smarts. I am a wandering disaster. A hedonist, a lover, a son, and a rebel. My name is Yuma. I’m sober enough to see the need for redemption, but too blind to realize I already found it. I am an independent seeker. An overachiever, a friend, a misfit, and a cop. My name is Lissie. I’m determined enough to find acceptance, but too stubborn to see all I need is my own. We shouldn’t get involved—all the odds are against us—but when bodies turn up on common ground and lines between duty and purpose get blurred, our future becomes clear.

This was an awesome mature romance filled with so much emotion and intensity it left me breathless.

5 mindblowing wilderness options in Durango, Colorado - Matador ...

Lissie has spent her whole life trying to live up to her family’s expectations and always falling short. With the opportunity to move to Durango offers itself, she jumps on the chance for a couple of reasons. However, she wasn’t counting on an attraction to her big bulky biker landlord. When they learn what all they have in common, the door is open for something more and Lissie doesn’t hesitate to take the first gentle step through.

”Because you could easily become my next addiction, Lissie”

description

I adored Lissie. She was one tough cop but had a softness to her that called out to Yuma, even as he was attracted to that dark edge she held within that matched his own. Knowing exactly what to say and do, she was more than capable of crashing through the walls he had built around him.

Yuma is the perfect burly hero, wounded and in so much need of acceptance and love. He made a few bad judgments with Lissie but he more than made up for them and she was just the type to know when to yield in the face of his pain. With a pretty strong possessive streak and some fun “knock them upside their head” jealous moments, he proves himself to be another great hero designed by this author.

”Yuma…” she breathes when I shut the door behind me and crowd her against the hallway closet.
“James,” I correct her, my nose almost touching hers. “My name is James Wells. Yuma to the outside, but with you I want to just be me.”

Jebiga Design & Lifestyle

As so many other books by Ms. Barker, this has a plot that isn’t singular. She worked her magic interweaving one plot into the next until I didn’t have a clue where I was going to end up. I love that she can do that every single time.

description

With some drama, a bit of relationship angst, and a tad of humor, this book kept me engaged from beginning to end. And just when I thought I was going to survive this without tears, I realized I was wrong. I love when I can be surprised by something so heartwarming that it makes me cry. As for the steam level, this is Hot! Everything between Lissie and Yuma feels organic and that more than includes their chemistry.

Overall, this was an AMAZING read that only leaves me wanting more of not only Lissie and Yuma, but that of the next couple coming up. Fingers crossed it’s who I think it is!

Incredible!! I'm always amazed when an author can take a past side character who is all kinds of messed up and turn them into such an incredible main character.

Yuma, our hero in Edge of Darkness, had some growing to do. He was a man who you can say is a typical young biker, who took full advantage of the alcohol and sex offered in that type of environment. When things went South in the first book, Edge of Reason, he hit rock bottom.

In Edge of Darkness, we see Yuma cleaned up but struggling. He still has a lot of hills to climb and that's where our heroine, Lissie comes in. Lissie hasn't had an easy life herself, but she was an incredibly strong woman, and just what Yuma needed.

This book was just so good! I'm so thankful that these authors haven an imagination, because my lack of one didn't have me seeing what Yuma could become. I never thought he could become one of my favorite guys to read about.

It wasn't just him though. It was both Yuma and Lissie that made this story for me. I loved their imperfections and how that ultimately made them the best fit for each other and the reason to why I was blown away by their story.

When the book ended, I wanted more! More of this couple, and now I want more of another couple who we got hints about. I'm not the biggest fan of MC books, but I am a big fan of Arrows Edge MC. These guys and the woman they ultimately give themselves to are making me a fan.

I’m a big fan of Freya Barker’s books and love everyone of them.
This one us one of my favorites by her. The storyline is different but so good.
I knew Freya would make me fall in love with Yuma. He had a troubled past, but she redeemed him.
Two people struggling and trying to overcome their demons.
Love how Yuma and Nosh’s relationship got better after the heartbreaking loss.
Yuma and Lissie were perfect for each other.

I don't know where to start with this. You see, I didn't hate it, but I really didn't like it.

All of the elements made sense... all the way through I kept putting the parts I didn't like to one side in the hope that the parts I did would out-weigh them.

I didn't mind Lissie.

I didn't like Yuma.

I didn't like the whole side-story with Red & Ginger. It added nothing... and devalued Yuma even more for me. I know that we got a visual from Trunk's story... bleghhh. It would've been better to have left that in the past, maybe he might have come across as more likable and understandable as a character for me. He seemed then and in this a very immature character. I know that both he & Lissie are alcoholics... but to be honest, that was completely irrelevant to the story. He came across as a temperamental child. I think part of the reason I dislike him so much is that I had high hope for this after the little preview in Blue's story.

I don't like that although ( potentially ) Freya Barker's series could be read as standalone's... they can't... not really. Half of the characters come from other ones... and you do need some of their story to understand them and place them within the timelines.

I did like Lisa.

I really really really really didn't like the ending. Made absolutely no sense to me. Why would she suddenly be OK with her family after what they did? Wasn't needed and didn't add to the story... yet again, it was something that just made me cross.

I really do have a hate/like/love relationship with FB's books... some of them, for me, hit the spot... and some of them miss them like they are in another dimension never to be seen or understood by me... ever again.

There are always certain things that you know you will get when you start a book: a hero who is damaged and the heroine who makes it her mission to save the hero.....but....what happens when both the hero and heroine have their own demons? Demons that they have to fight to be able to come together.

Both Yuma and Lissie have their fair share of demons they were battling....but when they “found” each other, holy smokes!!!!! Edge of Darkness was a FANTASTIC read! I turned the last page and kept looking for more!!!!

I absolutely loved everything about this book. Everything.
Two damaged souls coming together and becoming stronger together. It was a beautiful thing to read.
Yuma and Lissie have quickly become two of my favorite characters Ms Barker has written to date.
This whole series just keeps getting better and better.

Freya does it again. Meet Lissie and Yuma. Ying and yang at first glance, but they actually have more in common than either of them know. Yuma has a past that even makes him blush, but somehow he is drawn to Lissie. He may think he will never deserve her...but he didn't know that they are more a like then ever. Then during his meeting...he here her voice.."hi. I am Lissie and I am an alcoholic." Whoa!! This is just the beginning of the loving, sexy, tortured relationship. I couldn't put this book down. There are several side stories going on that kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see whose book is next. Read. Enjoy!!

Lissie and Yuma each have their own kinds of demons and damage. But they call to the other. Lissie the cop wants to heal the broken but healing biker, and Yuma the biker wants to protect his tough but sweet cop who's come to mean everything to him.

There's suspense, there are lots of emotional ups and downs, there's intense chemistry, all woven into an exciting, heart-tugging story that I fell in love with. Broken hero finding love is one of my favorite tropes, and no one does it quite like Freya. The Arrow's Edge MC is one of my favorite MC series for its layered, complicated characters and emotional but not angsty relationships.

Edge Of Darkness is book two in the Arrow's Edge MC series by Freya Barker. Edge of Darkness is about two people fighting demons who realize they need each other to survive. Lizzie caught a case of a body discovered at a new building site. During the investigation, she meets Yuma they click. However, was he guilty or innocent? The readers of Edge of Darkness will continue to follow Lizzie and Yuma to discover the truth.

Edge Of Darkness is the first book I have read in this new series by Freya Barker. I did enjoy reading Freya's other series, so I was hoping that I would enjoy reading books in this series, and I was not disappointed. I like Freya Barker's portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book. Edge Of Darkness is well-written and researched by Freya Barker. I like Freya Barker's description of the settings of Edge Of Darkness which complimented the book's plot.

The readers of Edge of Darkness will learn about people's issues when alcohol is their best friend. Also, the readers of Edge of Darkness will understand the importance of having a space for children who need a safe place to live.

I recommend this book.

I read this book without putting it down! It grabbed me right off the bat and held me tight. I couldn’t help but want to root for both Yuma and Lissie, you want good things to happen for both of them after all they have been through. You know it is never quite that easy though. There were definitely some sad parts in this book that had me choking up a little but if a book can make you feel both excited, happy and sad, it is just a credit to good writing!

Edge of Darkness by Freya Barker
Arrow’s Edge MC #2

Two people that should have nothing in common find out that they are meant to be together in this second book of the Arrow’s Edge MC series.

Lissie is a career policewoman with generations of cops in her family. She has always felt she needs to prove she is as good as the men in her family and eventually has moved away from them for a number or very good reasons. Moving into the apartments Yuma manages puts them in close proximity. Yuma is a man who has grown up in Arrow’s Edge MC. It is his birthright, all he knows and he has truly enjoyed the life until one day he realized that he needed to make some changes. Getting sober allowed him to see his life more clearly and perhaps also allowed him to see just how great Lissie actually is. They are definitely attracted to one another but have reasons they believe they should stay apart…at least for a while. They don’t have an easy time of it but do eventually get their HEA.

What I liked:
* Lissie: strong, smart, loving and a whole lot more than just a cop
* Yuma: a man that grew on me and was perfect for Lissie
* That the relationship between Lissie and Yuma seemed “real” and believable and that there was trust and respect and communication between them
* The side story of Dani and the mystery surrounding her disappearance
* The family aspect of the MC
* The murder mystery element of the story
* The supporting characters
* Lisa and her grandchildren
* Nosh: a curmudgeon and not the most open loving father to Yuma but it seems he really cared about his son and also had a good heart
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* The bad guys – and there were more than a few
* The idea that people could be so callous in raising children (ANL group)
* Having to say goodbye to the characters and the wait for the next book to read

Did I like this book? Definitely
Would I read more in this series? Without a doubt

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

On the surface, Yuma and Lissie are a textbook case of opposites attract, but once you start to scratch that surface, it's clear that appearances are deceiving.

He is a biker used to living on the wrong side of the law doing what he wants when he wants to do it. Life's twists and turns pushed him too close to the edge until he found himself waking up at rock bottom looking for a little help and a whole lotta redemption.

She is the first female cop in a long line of law enforcement officers, and she has had to fight to prove herself in their man's world time and time again. She is held to a higher standard by her own father and brothers who I came to have a very serious dislike for. The sights and horrors of the job take a toll until one unexpected encounter turns into the straw that breaks the proverbial camel's back so to speak. When her own family threatens to use her mistakes against her to discredit her for the sake of "protecting the family name", a change of location becomes necessary.

Like recognizes like, and it's not long until they realize their differences aren't that important. Without the crutch of past vices to fall back on, they need to lean on each other particularly when life starts to throw more obstacles at them. Walking the fine line between support and dependence leads to some bumpy moments along the way, but I have to say I absolutely loved these two characters and their journey. They are flawed but real and relatable at the same time, and they definitely had chemistry from the start. Edge of Darkness incorporates a storyline unique to Lissie while expanding upon a plot from prior books in the series, but you can absolutely read this book as a standalone. If you have not met the Arrow's Edge and Durango law enforcement families yet, what are you waiting for? Like any family, they are not perfect and life gets messy at times, but they will make you laugh, cry, swoon and fan yourself as you get to know them all so go get your 1-click on!

I'll be honest after the glimpses of Yuma in previous books from Freya Barker, I wasn't his biggest fan. He seemed to take the biker lifestyle to the limit and live down to the expectations he'd come to know from family and MC brothers. When life hit the fan for him, he hit rock bottom, but Ms. Barker always finds a way to make the most broken, misunderstood characters shine when they get their own stories.
Reenter Yuma, back and still struggling with a new reality in his life, but determined to make his life work. When he meets the new tenant in apartment building he manages, not only is he smitten with her, he finds someone who truly understands his struggle. To the outsider, an MC member and a cop seem like an unlikely pair, but in true Ms. Barker style she proves the them wrong. They shouldn't work, they shouldn't even try given their histories, but they do.
Lissie is the product of a chauvinistic line of cops, father and brothers, who think a woman's place is in the home and not at the police station. She's worked hard to be a good cop, and when given the opportunity to take a job in Durango, not only is she escaping her family and an professional incident at home, she's searching for a friend, who seems to have ties to the area.
Ms. Barker does not fail to run this couple through the wringer, individually and together. But what comes shining through is this author's innate ability to weave multiple storylines into one brilliant read. The topics are timely, the passion is intense, the emotions are real, and her characters draw the reader into and refuse to let go until long after the book is finished. Ms. Barker has taken a character I didn't care for and made Yuma one of my favorite of her heroes. As with each book released, I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve for her next book.

I CANNOT believe that Ms. Barker made me fall head-over-heels in love with Yuma! I didn't think I would like him, let alone LOVE him, but I should have known better....this IS Freya Barker we're talking about here! The little we know about Yuma prior to this book left me feeling a little antagonistic towards him, maybe even a little disgusted. After the first couple of chapters of Edge of Darkness, I started to think that maybe I was wrong. Long before the end of this book, I KNEW it...Yuma and Lissie are my new fave Freya Barker couple!

You would think that a MC lifer with a TON of baggage (Yuma) who has grown up in the Arrow's Edge MC and taken full advantage of all that could possibly come with that lifestyle to the extreme and a cop who also has a TON of baggage (Lissie) who has spent her entire career having to prove herself as a capable member of the force to not only her father and brothers (who also are cops....and NOT very likable!) but to HERSELF as well, would not be a "match made in heaven". I know I thought the same thing and knowing what I knew about Yuma's life prior to getting into rehab I figured they would just be too different to ever end up where they did! But, little by little, with every new facet of both these complicated characters revealed, I slowly came to realize that just under the surface, Yuma and Lissie are simply PERFECT for each other!

With Ms. Barkers' trademark style this suspenseful, UNPUTDOWNABLE MUST READ has made it right up to the top of my list of fave reads! Do yourself a favour and pick up this book (or ANY of Freya Barkers books)....you will NOT be disappointed!

Edge of Darkness is one of the best books I've read all year!

Lissie and Yuma are attracted to each other from almost the first moment they meet. Even though they've both gone through their own means to clean their lives up, their first several weeks together are perfect, until they're not.

Lissie runs into Ginger and Red while visiting the Arrow's Edge clubhouse, and Ginger tries to share her special relationship with Red and Yuma. Although Red shuts her down, and drags her out of the room, the whispers in Lissie's brain are getting louder.

Then when Yuma finds out about Lissie's original reason for moving to Durango, Yuma tries to pull the plug on their quickly blooming relationship himself. Both of them are trying to heal with gaping wounds in their hearts, and that isn't making it any easier.

As the case Lissie and the Durango PD is heating up, fingers are pointing everywhere, including the Mayor of Durango, the American Nationalist League, and another MC called The Moab Reds. Before Lissie can get permanent answers on who is dumping bodies, someone comes gunning for her, hoping to end Lissie's search in a more permanent way.

An outstanding new addition to the Arrow's Edge MC series, Lissie and Yuma are beautiful to watch together, and the suspense is so thick I HAD to finish it in one setting. Freya leaves the biggest surprise for the very last page, and has ensured that I'll be waiting with bated breath for the next in the series! Ms. Barker has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this AMAZING 5⭐ MC Romance!!

Edge of Darkness is the second book in the Arrows Edge MC series written by the talented Freya Barker. If you have never read a book by Freya...shame on you!

We met Yuma (I believe) in Highway 550 (Rock Point #3) and Lissie in Edge of Reason (Arrows Edge MC #1). Their characters were in the background mostly, but you just knew there was some kind of darkness within them.

“Be careful, girl. There’s an edge of darkness on that one.”

Lissie lives in an apartment building that belongs to the MC but is managed by Yuma. While they are attracted to one another, neither one of them feels like they are in a good place.

Yuma and Lissie start their relationship off slow, but soon it is smoldering and ready to ignite. You wouldn’t think that a big bad MC guy and a police detective wouldn’t have much in common, but these two are more alike then they know.

Yet another amazing, flawless read by Freya Barker. She leaves you on the edge of your seat, begging for her to write faster❤️ She is a one-click author for me and always will be.

I was seriously in a book funk, nothing seemed to grab me, but when the newest from Freya Barker became available for me I knew that funk was going to be over. Edge of Darkness was a fantastic read. Even though we met Yuma previously and was not seen as the best, I was immediately invested in his and Lissie’s story. Yuma definitely had his demons and a lot of baggage but I ended up adoring him. Lissie is the new detective in town, she had specific reasons for joining the Durango PD and we find out that she too had baggage and demons of her own. I loved how when two people who on the surface looked like polar opposites find each other and realize how similar they were. They are there for each other when the past is uncovered and tragedy strikes. I could not put this book down, we have the drama, suspense, danger, swoony moments, steamy moments and the best happily ever after and not just for Yuma and Lissie!

Another definite 5 star read!

Okay so let’s be honest for a moment. Assuming you read the previous stories, do you think you will like Yuma??? I didn’t think I would. I thought he would be an okay hero/love interest. Nothing special. Then I remembered that he went to rehab and I wondered if Freya would be able to make him shine.
She did it!
I am happy to report I ended up loving Yuma! Very much! And his pops. A man who seemed like a grump until you get to know him and remove the clear shiny shell off of him and get to the gooey center. Ha!

Yuma and Lissie are both recovering addicts. I did not see that coming. Definitely made the story a little more interesting.
These two meet... well, you need to read this one to see what happens. It can be read on its own, but you will get more out of it if you read the whole series.
I highly recommend you one click this one! You will greatly enjoy this HEA!

Yuma is a member of the Arrow’s Edge MC who handled the pain of his past in a destructive way and although he has turned his life around he knows that he needs to remain focused so he doesn’t revert back to the man he was.

Law enforcement is in Lizzie's blood but when she needed the support of those that she thought she could trust the most she realized that the only person she could depend on was herself. She is looking for a new beginning.

Yuma is managing the apartment where she is staying, and they are drawn to each other even though they both know that they are not ready for a relationship. With so much in common will they be each other’s downfall or redemption?

The characters are complex and compelling, the challenges they face are real, the suspense is intriguing and the connection between them unquestionable.

I have been waiting on Yuma's book since we were introduced to him way back when.
I knew there was a story behind his attitudes, his partying, and then we met Lissie in Tony's book.
These two have such chemistry it's beautiful.
"I have that Edge of Darkness in me too Lisa, I'm just better at hiding it"
The Storyline is amazing, the way Freya brings everything together, amazing, the love between two broken souls, breathtaking.
Freya is absolutely one of the most talented writers out there today!

Another great story! Yuma and Lissie seem an unlikely pair from the outside. They both have some similar struggles that they are dealing with. Yuma and Lissie are also not that likeable at times, in other books. It was great to see things from their point of views, and you could feel their sadness and strength come through the story. A kind of friends to lovers story with lots of drama and intrigue. Beautiful, hard fought story to their HEA.

Yuma & Lissie were great and the struggles they faced are all too real. Yuma sure came into his own in this one and I have to say I like this version of him.

As the body count rises and the investigation heats up we learn some powerful people are behind the ANL. We also get to see the love grow between this amazing couple.

4.25 stars--EDGE OF DARKNESS is the second instalment in Freya Barker’s contemporary, adult ARROW’S EDGE MC erotic, MC, romance series focusing on the members of the Arrow’s Edge MC. This is forty-year old, MC member James ‘Yuma’ Wells, and thirty-seven year old, detective Elizabeth ‘Lissie’ Bucco’s story line. EDGE OF DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion where Yuma’s story begins.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Yuma and Lissie) EDGE OF DARKNESS follows the building relationship between forty-year old, MC member James ‘Yuma’ Wells, and thirty-seven year old, detective Elizabeth ‘Lissie’ Bucco. Elizabeth Bucco is the newest member of the Durango.New Mexico Police Department but she is no newbie to the world of law enforcement but finds herself struggling with her place in the world when she was forced to resign from her last department. A new apartment with a landlord that draws her like a moth to a flame, Lissie jumps head first when several bodies are discovered buried at a local construction site. James Wells aka Yuma battles between head and heart knowing his new tenant is with the local police but our hero knows the Arrow’s Edge MC is more about looking after the most vulnerable than trampling on the wrong side of the law but Lissie’s latest assignment comes full circle affecting the Arrow’s Edge MC, and in this Yuma is about to discover he lost his heart to woman caught in the middle of the battle. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Yuma and Lissie, and the potential fall-out as secrets, loss, and a mutual struggle threaten their tentative hold on love.

James Wells aka Yuma is a recovering alcoholic and his day to day struggle is a battle between right and wrong but meeting his new tenant at the local AA meeting gives them both something in common, a commonality of which James was hoping to forget. Lissie Bucco’s latest assignment brings her face to face with the reality of life and death, but death has always forced Lissie to look away until a discovery brings the reality to her front door.

The relationship between James and Lissie is one of immediate attraction; a palpable sexual attraction wherein James is hoping to become a better man but the loss of someone close sends James spiralling pushing our heroine away at a time when he needs her the most. James is broken and damaged forty year old man, who is about to fall in love with a woman he believes he does not deserve. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large colorful and energetic cast of secondary and supporting characters including Trunk Rae & Jaimie (Edge of Reason #1), Ouray and Luna, and their son Ahiga, MC members Wapi, Kaga, Tse; Yuma’s father Nosh; Lisa, and her foster kids Ezrah and Kiara; as well as several detectives and law enforcement at the DPD.

EDGE OF DARKNESS is a story of family and friendships; of betrayal and vengeance; of life, loss, relationships and love. The premise is engaging, gritty and real; the romance is seductive and emotional; the characters are captivating, sensitive and edgy. EDGE OF DARKNESS is a passionate and intense story.
