In the 19th century, a leader of magnificent spiritual stature emerged in Lithuania, a gaon who made a lasting contribution toward the revitalization of Torah Judaism. This individual was Rabbi Yisrael Lipkin of Salant, knownas Rabbi Yisrael Salanter; he was the father of the mussar movement, which continues to shape the Torah community the world over to the present day.
Clearly written, this biography tells of the admiration many had for Reb Salanter, the hardships he endured, the projects he started. He made a lasting impression on rich and poor. Sadly, he did not have a good connection with his wife or his son Dr. Lipkin.
