Helpful To have a review you can listen to but many of the answers to the quiz questions weren’t the best. Ex: “though any of these could be right the answer is actually this.” That’s not exactly a great test question.
I used this for a DSM course in grad school and it was an awesome time saving tool. There were many disorders I just didn’t need to dive deeply into, and the DSM can read like an encyclopedia, so I used this to get an overview of disorders. The quizzes at the end of each disorder section was quite helpful. I often found myself listening to this first and then opening up the DSM-5 to go further in-depth and then to consider differential diagnoses. To end the quarter we were given complicated vignettes and we’d have to come to best diagnosis and justify our decisions. I used this guide first and then dove into the DSM-5 as well as using Dr. First’s Handbook of Differential Diagnosis to confirm my suspicions when there was plenty of room for doubt. The combination of these three resources really helped me out in class and clinical work, as well as saving me a ton of time not having to go in-depth into certain disorders that didn’t require that much focused attention due to rarity in my particular field. The accompanying PDF was great when I needed a quick answer or quickly rule out symptoms. The PDF is “clickable” so if you see what you’re looking in the contents you can click the heading and it’ll take you right to what you’re after. I highly recommend this audiobook!
Bought this on Audible as a secondary resource for my DSM-V class in graduate school. Best. Decision. Ever. While this won't get you a good grade on its own, it is a fantastic way to review super dry material in a hurry. The review questions at the end of each chapter are awesome! Highly recommend if you are taking a diagnostics class.
