This is sort of a rendition of the Christmas Eve story. This would be a great activity to do with Kindergarten and sequence the different settings in the story. The little girl in the story is dreaming so you could have the kids use their imagination with you and they could create their own Christmas story. It is a cute book so parents could read this to them as well. This whole book is one big poem so you could introduce poetry along with having them recognize the rhyming words.

Something Magic in the Night is a lovely story about a girl called Dottie Sue who realises and goes to discover what the magic feeling is on Christmas Eve.

This is a very simple story that goes through all of what we see around us on Christmas Eve but it is very effective. We found it to be very calming for the children with the gentle story and gorgeous illustrations which really show the magic of a Christmas evening. It is a great way to get children talking about Christmas and what they think Dottie Sue is looking to find, most of the children thought it would be Santa she was hoping to find!

Dottie Sue is a lovely character to follow through the book as she has a calming effect on the book but is still fun and inquisitive. She is the only character we see which I like as it allows the children to focus on the message of the book which is how magical the festivities are.

This is a beautiful story which would be the perfect book to read before bed on Christmas Eve. We found it magical, fun and calming for the children.
