I picked up this book at a used library book sale because I thought it was an autobiography of a soldier that served in the Special Forces aka Green Berets. There are some autobiographical sections such as describing one recon mission in Vietnam, basic training, and airborne training at Fort Bragg. The rest of the book is a description of how the military has become an institution looking for a war to continue to grow in power and wealth. The author also describes why he thinks the U.S. does not need to be in Vietnam fighting a war. This book was written in 1967 so history has proven the author right so many readers will not be interested in the book.
Very insightful firsthand account of the American War in Vietnam. This will be listed as a primary source by future historians. One thing it served to highlight was a key factor in why the majority of the Vietnamese people loved the VC and hated Americans and their former colonizers.
