A consumer handbook and etiquette guide, ""Paying For It"" is the first how-to book for sex work clients. Does your sex worker’s face light up when she or he sees you walk in the door? If not, ""Paying For It"" can make the difference between a so-so session and an hour that you’ll remember the rest of your life. Sex workers are like any other workers û they give their best effort to the people who treat them best, and in ""Paying For It"" some of the industry’s premiere professionals describe exactly how to become your favorite sex worker’s favorite customer.
It is what it claims to be: tips on how to be a good sex worker customer. I had expected a bit more anecdotal-driven explanations, but got more lists than anything else. Still gave this four stars because, although it wasn't what I wanted, it lived up to its advertisement.
I'm pretty much the opposite of the intended audience for this book, but I still really enjoyed it (and found myself nodding in agreement quite a lot). The essays are by a range of sex workers, from prostitutes to nude models, and they focus on things a consumer should know. With such a range of writers, it's especially interesting to see what issues everyone in an adult trade faces (we all want basic respect, and appreciate it if you bathe). Overall, this would be a good book for anyone curious about real life sex work (and not the bullshit sensationalized version a lot of people buy into), and definitely a good thing to read if you are a client and want to be especially appreciated.
