What would have happened if Elizabeth understood Mr. Darcy better before the proposal and was in fact fully expecting it. She was an intelligent woman, and without an excessive amount of prejudice, she could have worked it out. Let us see what happens when she FULLY understands the gentleman, in all his particulars, BEFORE the proposal.
This was the most delightful misunderstanding I’ve ever read. Wow! However, Wade scared the crap out of me toward the end. Darcy wanted to start his marriage on the right foot. He insisted on coming clean by explaining his part in that misunderstanding. I nearly fell over as I screamed NO! I just knew the whole thing was about to fall into a heap. However, Elizabeth saw Darcy in such a light that he had to shine in spite of himself. I loved watching her pull him from the edge and give him a new reason for being the best he could be. He had no choice but to rise to the occasion. Wow! Loved it.
If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is. ~ John Louis von Neumann
At last, a Pride & Prejudice story without any misunderstandings on Elizabeth Bennet’s part! Well, without the usual misunderstandings, at least. But does her understanding of Darcy’s motives coincide with Darcy’s understanding of his motives?
Elizabeth happily accepts the (usually) disastrous Hunsford proposal. The next morning, the betrothed couple meets in the Rosings woods to discuss engagement details.
As Darcy begins to speak, he realizes Elizabeth has a very different view of his initial topic. In fact, her views of his actions are very different in every respect.
This Pride and Prejudice story provides an alternative version of Elizabeth's view point in her interactions with Darcy while Darcy takes the canon view. It is masterfully written!
Elizabeth accepts Darcy's Hunsford proposal, attributing some crazy yet logical calculations to his behavior throughout their entire acquaintance. She gives him credit for his motivations that he never ever contemplated. You see, her very FIRST impressions are NEVER wrong. Quintessential Wade H that's really out there but also kinda brilliant in a warped way!
What a lot of fun this is! I just love the way Wade H's mind works and how it comes out in his writing. I've never seen this interpretation put on the DHP before and yet it all seems so logical here.
