Melissa, also fatigued from the fast track, just hosted an intimate dinner party at a swanky Upper East Side restaurant attended by trend-setting journos from New York magazine, The Observer, Allure, “Page Six” as well as the indefatigable Michael Musto–and as part of the gift bag giveaway, the whole crew is being flown to Miami to stay at a five-star resort favored by the likes of Will Smith.

Asked how they managed to go from barely-known freelance writers to A-list celebrities in just fourteen days, they coyly spilled the beans: Marie Claire called with the assignment, and they simply begged, clawed, cried, borrowed, cheated, lied, stole, and bribed their way to fame. She has also appeared as an expert on fashion, trends and fame for CNN, E! and FoxNews.

Melissa grew up in Manila and moved to San Francisco with her family, where she graduated high school salutatorian from The Convent of the Sacred Heart. She majored in art history and English at Columbia University (and minored in nightclubs and shopping!).

She now divides her time between New York and Los Angeles, where she lives in the Hollywood Hills with her husband and daughter.

Coming from the PR world, this book pokes a little fun at the industry. Very over the top situations, but then again it is New York. Living in the same setting as the book, I've actually employed some of their tactics with success for a few of my clients. I reread this book everyfew years or so...makes you think outside of the box.

Looked too silly, but the preface caught me with some laugh out loud humor so I attempted it. Gave up halfway though as it was just so long and unnecessary. Left me saying "Who cares". Would have been better as a magazine article, which I think it started out as.

A very funny and entertaining read. I do not think that this book really teaches someone how to be famous. :)

A frothy, tongue-in-cheek look at the PR world in New York. Tolerable read comprised of assorted self-promotional vignettes.

Cute, light and a quick read. I saw this on the checkout desk at the library and thought it looked funny.
