Help Your Child Learn Anger Management Skills for a Lifetime.
While some children instinctively know how to regulate their emotions, plenty of others lack the skills they need to express their anger in healthy and effective ways. This warm, engaging workbook helps children ages 5-10 develop strong skills for managing their anger through 40 fun activities.
From identifying their feelings and challenging negative thinking patterns to practicing healthy coping skills when angry feelings arise, kids will learn to feel calmer and more in control--and to form better relationships with family and friends and ease problems at school. A bonus section at the end of each chapter encourages kids and their families to practice the skills they've learned for even greater success.
Here's what you'll find in the Anger Management Skills Workbook for Kids :
This positive, interactive book will help your child calm down, cope, and cool a hot temper with skills that will last them a lifetime.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is a bright and colourful, engaging book for children to not only help them control their anger and frustrations but also to help them understand it and find their triggers too. This is a fantastic resource for anyone with a child or working with children, to have. This book is aimed at younger children under the age of 9. There are plenty of topics and activities to do in the book to help keep the child's attention and keep it interesting for them to work through.
What a GREAT resource to have as a parent (or caregiver, guardian, even teacher). While my child doesn't have anger problems, the cover of this title caught my eye and I thought it may have good suggestions for how to teach good coping skills early and ahead of any anger issues arising. Especially since my only child is about to become a sibling.
There are 7 chapters in this book that each address a different step. First, identifying anger. Great start because its hard to label and figure out what exactly you're feeling sometimes and by being able to accurate express and identify what you're feeling, you can better understand how to move on from that feeling. There are "workshops" or practice sets for each chapter that are creative and fun ways to work on the lesson. Next there are activities to do together as a family. I loved this concept, first because there are some really creative ideas. I find myself struggling sometimes to come up with new ideas to engage my toddler without resorting to screens! And second, helping a child work through their anger is not something they can do alone. They need to feel supported and they also need to see positive behavior of anger to mimic.
The next six chapters are equally important: Create Calm, Learn Self Control, Talk Back to Your Triggers, Solve Problems, Speak Up, and finally, Feel Great. Each chapter follows the same structure and there were truly some excellent suggestions that I know I'm glad to have this in my toolbox.
The flow and format of this book made sense. Reading it as an adult, you can see exactly how each of the individual and then family activities helps solidify the chapter's overall focus/lesson. Its a simple process to work through anger, just like you'd work through grief for example. This builds skills with your child at their own pace and while reassuring them they are not a BAD PERSON just because they get angry. Instead it shows them how much better it feels to deal with anger in a helpful way AND encourages them to know they are capable of it.
I was very impressed with the content of this workbook. The formatting for the early copy was off I believe and I wouldn't be able to have my child do a lot of the activities without recreating them on paper; however, I'm sure this is fixed and different in the published print book and/or ebook. I will certainly be recommending this to all my friends with children in their lives!
Anger Management Skills Workbook for Kids, written by Amanda Robinson, is a colorful, fun, & informative book for young children. The activities have clearly been created with young hearts in mind. I can easily imagine sharing this with my 7 year old son, as mid- to late-elementary seems to be its perfect audience.
I've already preordered a copy for myself, my oldest son, and will pull particular pieces out for my soon-to-be Kindergartener.
Thank you to NetGalley & Zeitgeist for this digital copy to review.
This is a valuable tool for parents and teachers of children who are struggling with anger. The activities are simple, clearly outlined and helpful. This will not replace the need for therapy but could be a valuable companion.
The pages are colorful and engaging for. Children
The publisher made a copy available for review on netgalley. This honest review is my opinion.
Learning to manage difficult feelings can be quite challenging for young children. This book offers some age appropriate help for kids roughly between the ages of five and ten. Some of the chapters include Say Hello-and Goodbye-to Your Anger, Create Calm, Learn Self Control, Feel Great and more.
The author notes that this book is not appropriate for all kids, citing those who are having larger behavioral or mental health issues. For many children however the activities in this book may be very helpful. They are presented in an appealing fashion with many colorful illustrations.
I liked the way that the author spoke directly to her readers and her encouragement of doing these activities with a trusted adult. I recommend this book for families and it may also be useful for schools and therapists. You don't have to wait for anger to become an issue; the activities in this book can help children to recognize and name their feelings and find ways to cope.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
A book that shows kids ways to control their emotions by working with them, not their parents.
The activities are easy to understand and fun to do. The book begins with identifying emotions and where they come from. It discusses emotions such as anger and where it comes from. It is helpful for children to understand if they are angry because they have to go somewhere they don’t want to go, that someone hit them or because they are having problems understanding something. Later, the kids are taught how to compromise using techniques like brainstorming. Empathy, making amends and identifying who you can trust with your feelings are also covered.
I will be purchasing this book for my 6-year-old grandson. It will definitely help him to navigate new school and home issues as they arise.
I received an ARC from Zietgeist/Z Kids Publishing through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.
This is a great book for parents to complete activities with their children to help them gain skills with grounding, calming down their emotions, ways to cope and gain a better control on their anger and emotions. The activities are set out in an easy to navigate and understand on how to complete with children. This book is certainly one that I will use for my autistic boys. Run date of 29 February 2020 the review will be posted/published at Netgalley , Facebook, Christianbook.com, goodreads, googlebook. This book is very well done ! The way the kid is addressed (not guiltying or condescendent), the activities (I think they would be apealing to children) etc. I think it is a very good guide for kids, it makes them explore themselves and their feelings, but also other's. I don't have a kid but I myself had anger management issues when I was one. The techniques in this book are comparable to the ones I've learned to use myself and that work ! The tips are also good to take for the parents ! I love that it guides the child to express their feelings and helps improve comprehension !
I was curious about this workbook because my 8 year old daughter has been dealing with anger lately. I didn’t want to buy something without seeing it first so I am glad I was able to see an ebook if this workbook.
I really love all the different ways kids can work on their anger without boring them. That was my biggest fear with things like this.
I more than likely will purchase the print version if this. It’s perfect for children
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A step-by-step guide to help children manage their anger, from identifying emotions to coming up with solutions.
Helpful (dare I say it... not just for kids?), wholesome, and written in a tone that felt like a great mixture of friendly and child-appropriate, but also straightforward and to-the-point.
This might be a very old-school note, but I'd highly recommend getting this as a paper book.
As a clinician, I am always looking for tools to use with clients to address their needs. This workbook offers fun and engaging activities to help children identify their emotions and learn strategies to manage their reactions to their feelings. This a great resource for parents and providers alike.
A very useful and child friendly book that I think will surely be helpful. I liked how it was organised and the style of writing. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Loved this! Easy and fun to use, informative for adults, although it didn't cover all aspects for me. I think more could have been done with this and I am hoping it will be a series. I could definitely see how this could be a huge help!
Este es un libro infantil ideal para regalo por su uso tan práctico pero también creo que es muy recomendable que esté en las estanterías de las familias con niños para dado el caso, recurrir a él sin demora.
