Book covering detail's of some of my favorite WWII Aircraft lots of details and stats, covering the Supermarine Spitfire, the Avro Lancaster, The 109 Messerschmitt, P-51 Mustang, and the B-17 Bomber, recommended if you like information regarding these fighter planes.

A delight for WW2 aircraft geeks of a technical bent. Beautifully illustrated and full of specs and stats. I certainly learned things about the 5 aircraft covered but the text was clunky, and light on more humanising anecdotes and stories.

This book is confined to only five aircraft of the Second World War. But it could be argued that between them, these aircraft essentially defined the air war over Europe.

Dr Alfred Price wrote the chapters on the Supermarine Spitfire and the Messerschmitt Me 109. Mike Spick contributed the chapters about the Avro Lancaster, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and the North American P-51 Mustang.

Readers would be kept at the edge of their seats as they follow the twelve Lancasters led by Squadron Leader John Nettleton in their daring daylight raid against Augsburg on 17 April 1942.

The strength of the book rested not only on the technical details of the aircraft but also the development of the aircraft and the tactics used in combat. A brief but concise and worthy read.

The book offers a tremendous amount of information on the planes the author thinks were the most important during WWII. It suffers from very poor editing. Come on what editor doesn't have spellcheck?
