5 stars of old school epicness. This book is about the dangers of smoking pot and doing meth! But in a corny after school special way, that could have only been produced in the 70's. (actually, late 60's!). If you've got an hour to kill and want some giggles then, I say, go for it!

Apparently this book is not widely beloved but I found this review online:

Mother drinks, father decamps on business, big sister elopes, and what's a nice overlooked girl to do when, to top it off, the first interesting, interested boy evaporates? Today, she takes dope. Especially if, like Carla, she's annexed (inexplicably) by Dexter Smith, senior big wheel who's now dealing in drugs. Carla sticks to pot (and finds it adhesive if not addictive), but Dexter improvises a medley of highs and lows until he freaks out. . . perhaps forever. Meanwhile Carla, implicated, has been put on probation, which gives her family a chance to shape up too; there's even a tardy, much-traveled letter from that boy. Like Dexter's reefers in a Camel wrapper, this is hot stuff in a standard package. And dreary. (For a more convincing caution, try Maia Wojciechowska's Tuned Out.)
