The Koci Hybrid Series #4

Gene Born: Hunter's Choice

Rate this book
The government used us to improve the human genome through gene modification and controlled us through a computer AI placed in our brains. Earth was dying, and they needed humans to be stronger, faster, and harder to kill while traveling through space in their search for a new home. They were successful. They made us stronger, faster, and harder to kill. Then, they took it even further when an alien species called the Koci, who'd been shot down right before the last exodus ships were to leave earth and used this foreign DNA to changes us even further. We are now part Koci and part human, a hybrid. We sought our freedom from being controlled by the government only to find ourselves in the hands of pirates when we awoke from cryo-stasis.
Then, the pirates sold us to the Mxint Combine to fight in their gladiator games against other aliens and monsters. We went. We kicked ass. We gained our freedom, but at what cost and will it be short-lived. We chose a planet chock full of predators that we must survive for three weeks before rescue can arrive. Will it be the Findo Alliance Investigators, will it be the Torgerian's battle group, will it be the Koci battle group, or worst of all will it be the Mxint Combine that finds us first. It's Hunter's Choice. We are finally free, but for how long? Our goal— continued freedom,
our objective— find a new home, our ambition— explore this new galaxy we find ourselves in. Will we give up? Never!

Danger Planetside

I would give this book 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

This series goes from strength to strength. The characters become more full and engaging with each book. In this book the people from Earth and their alien allies manage to win free of slavery and find a planet. Only the planet isn’t quite as safe as they think it’s going to be.

Through adversity the disparate groups come together to stay safe. There are also the groups where mates cross species lines.

There are quite a few alternate POV scenes in this book, which I wasn’t sure about initially, but it is a good way of conveying information that Sloan isn’t yet aware of. It did break up the narrative a bit though, so I’m still not sure.

We are also introduced to more races of aliens, and there are even more males interested in Sloan and the other females.

One particularly interesting subject in this book is the emerging sentience of Willa, Sloan’s AI. It’s quite sweet the way she interacts with Sloan, though she sometimes behaves like a teenager throwing tantrums.

As with all of the other books in the series, I really enjoyed this read, and can’t wait for the next one.

Great plot, way too much useless info

First warning: Cliffhanger ahead, and not at a stopping point. Griffn said the story was not stopping soon, but anyone who dislikes cliffhangers may want to wait for the next book.

Second warning: Griffin has decided to make M/M scenes later. None are in This book, but one of the main guys has a boyfriend, even though the species has "the one" life mates and are territorial of their mates.

This series is a fun series a little in the dark side. I really love this plot, but there are aspects that I do not like, but I have come to accept it is just Griffin's writing style. Her characters are plain, speak stiffly, and have minimal personality. Ajax and Jaxson may as well be clones. They are interchangeable. Everyone apologizes constantly. They are seeking assurances constantly. It doesn't matter if Sloan is trying to escape. It doesn't matter if they are headed to a deadly fight. This weakness that EVERY character has, including Willa the A.I., is annoying. I reached a point where I started skipping sections of dialogue and found I missed nothing.

The worst thing I find in this is Griffin's need to explain everything, like the reader is too dumb to connect the dots. I don't think it's intentional, but I rolled my eyes so many times because of it.

Will this stop me from continuing the series? No. But I feel like the above information will give new readers insight of what is within these pages. When Griffin matures as a writer, I hope she will revisit this series.

A good story but won’t continue…

Okay let’s discuss a little bit…
The first book was very very interesting and I literally couldn’t put it down because I just wanted to learn more about this new world. I loved our MC from the beginning and was very interesting to see what would happen next. HOWEVER
I’m giving a rating of four because I really do enjoy the story but it was kinda hard to read about all the abuse and to go from bad to another terrible situation every time. I’m not sure if it had those disclaimers but yeah it was hard. Additionally we get the addition of a new guy but spoilers it seems like the story is going towards M/M which at this point I always say that I would like a disclaimer at the beginning of the story because at this point I’m very invested in the story but not really interested about that relationship. So I don’t know if I’ll continue… maybe I’ll change my mind but at this point I guess I’ll never know the ending.

However if you are interested in the adventure, sci-fi, a great MC and okay with m/m then I recommend because it was a good story.

Really like this space-world so far. Intriguing, a lot of descriprion. I will be honest I skimmed over some of the alien's descriptions and some of the really detailed conversations. Its good info but I got bored and skimmed ahead. Otherwise I can't wait for the next book to see how they deal with their current predicament.

This book was probably the best of them all. Less planning more doing. The descriptions of the way the aliens look are just too involved and detailed for me to care so I honestly skim over them until the story continues. I love all the alien alies she's collected and how her AI is maturing and learning.

Need the next book!

Great story! I see there has been a gap in writing so I'm sad that there might not be a next book. Good world building and worth the read even with the cliff.

Couldn't wait for the book, I bought it as soon as it came out.
Now the majority of the time described in the book takes on the planet they have all crash-landed.
So the next two days a packed with action and unbelievable turns. We briefly meet new characters and experience new challenges with an open end.
The book finishes with new questions and plenty of time for new development until the final battle happens.

Hungry for more!!!!

This is a crazy, interesting, mind boggling read... I have a problem with cliffhangers normally I would wait so I could read the series all at once. However I'm sure she won't be done ever!
This series is so worth reading again and again because of the details. Never boring so I'll wait and re-read again and again and again and again. So worth owning!!!!!!😍

Gene Born book 4

The best part about this series is the monster selection! They have such detail that you could almost draw them out. Sloan and her men are definitely my favorite!
