All I wanted was a normal high school life, but it turns out fate had other things in mind.
I’m a reaper like my father before me. Tasked with ferrying souls from the mortal world to their eternal reward when they die. I didn’t want to go into the family business, but crazy supernatural shit keeps finding me whether I want it or not!
Take my latest problem. Vampires. Nosferatu. The undead. Children of the night. Bloodsuckers. They’re totally real, and they’re totally sneaking around my school and trying to put the moves on my girl!
Which is a problem. Most mortals have the good sense to stay away from things that go bump in the night, but not Stacy. Show her a hint of the supernatural and suddenly she’s acting like we’re a combination of the Scooby Gang and the Ghostbusters and she’s running in, stakes out, without an appreciation for how often encounters between the undead and the living result in the living becoming the undead!
I thought life would settle down after all that nasty business with Graham the necromancer. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There are bloodsuckers infesting my school, they’re after my girl for some reason, and it’s time to show them how wrong those old dudes were when they said don’t fear the reaper!
Vampires Don’t Sparkle is a 90,000 word book about a reaper who doesn’t take crap from the things that go bump in the night! A little horror, a little humor, and a whole lot of fun!
This book works as a standalone, but check out A Date With Death if you want to see how Gwen got her powers and got the girl!
Gwen and Stacy are challenging Night Terror and Fialux for the top spot in my "favorite heroine pairs written by Mia Archer". This story is full of the geek culture references and quirky characters that we've come to expect with a rather good plot as well. The ending certainly leaves room for more and the not so subtle references to Night Terror and the Star Pirate series in the story suggest we could see some real fun down the road, since all of these stories seem to be in the same universe.I know I would love to read that cross over series!
I couldn't finish the book fast enough. I really enjoyed the first book and this one was quite good also. Stumbling through a vampire infestation using only pop-culture references and lore as your only weapon was lots of fun. I am at the age were I know every reference having lived through them. Gawd I am getting old. I like the fact the book has a definitive ending rather that a cliffhanger. The last chapter setting up the next book weather it happens or not is a much nicer way to reward the fans. Ido hope there is a next book and it comes out soon. And the cross over references are fun and I would like to see the villains/heroes and space pirates possibly show up.
A few minor grammatical mistakes that I caught, but nothing major in that department. The story was great, and although I think I still preferred the first from this one, this was still entertaining, it was long, but it was a fun ending. I enjoyed it.
2nd read: I have a new appreciation for Stacy in this one for the brilliance of the plan she had and I thought it was like a perfect move for her to make. She was leaving breadcrumbs for Gwen to follow.
This is a sequel to the book A DATE WITH DEATH. Gwen is a reaper. She ferries soul after DEATH to their final reward. Supernatural trouble just won't leave her alone, and she's died more times than she can count. She's also into girls. Not exactly a social butterfly. Follow Gwen and her friends into a humorous story of trying to save her high school from teenage terror.
Gwen and Stacy are fighting vampires in this follow-on tale with more pop-culture references than plot. Fun read with good secondary characters and likely HEA... though there are these werewolves...
