Produced by WGBH Boston, Molly of Denali is an action-adventure comedy that follows the adventures of feisty and resourceful 10-year-old Molly Mabray, an Alaska Native girl. Molly helps her mom and dad run the Denali Trading Post, a general store, bunkhouse, and transport hub in the fictional village of Qyah, Alaska. Each episode follows Molly, her dog Suki, and her friends Tooey and Trini on their daily adventures in Alaska, from fishing for salmon to delivering a camera to friends on a volcano—via dog sled! Molly of Crane Song Lost is a Level One I Can Read, which means it’s perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences. Whether shared at home or in a classroom, the short sentences, familiar words, and simple concepts of Level One books support success for children eager to start reading on their own.
I bought the book as part of a set of books hoping to get my young great nieces and nephews interested in birding. They range in age from 5-11, so different reading levels are needed. This one would be great for the youngest to try and read and her older sister to maybe read to her. There are a few big words that they might need help reading and understanding: journalist, astronaut, and a character name--Dr. Antigone (even I'm not sure). Sandhill crane over-winter in our area, so it's fun finding books that talk about them in other areas and other seasons.
Our family loves the Molly of Denali books and the childrens show the books are based on. The stories are engaging and adventurous and do a great job at providing positive relationship modeling.
While the books are targeted at early readers, our two year old loves them as well and seeks them out at story time.
In this story they demonstrate research in the field and some cute baby sandhill cranes by children love.
Interesting book on scientists banding cranes to track them. Good introduction to bird watching/studying. Provide opportunities for deeper conversations on subject
