Beyond the Cove #3

Appeal to You

Rate this book
If there's anyone who knows how to have a good time--be it with a man or a woman--it's Ryder Pearce. Master of the nail-it-and-bail-it theory, he lives his life for one person and one person only: himself. When a man enters Ryder's life who challenges him on every flirtation, every sexual innuendo he can come up with, Ryder's thrown off his game in a big way. Because there's one thing the man has made perfectly clear--they've played this game before, and Ryder doesn't remember the outcome. Avery Hamilton has seen all of Ryder's moves and has witnessed his sex appeal. He knows all too well about his cocky sense of humor and his penchant for one-night stands. There was a time in his life when he'd taken the bait, but this time around, he wants more. He's seen Ryder's act; what he hasn't seen is Ryder--the real Ryder he hides from the world. When both men come together to help a young boy, Ryder's forced to face things from his past he's blocked out. Things he never wanted anyone to know. Now, Ryder has one fear . . . Will revealing that side of himself be real enough for Avery? Or will it be the reason Avery walks away? Contains mature themes.

Another great book from this series

This book touches on really tough subjects but it never drops over the line into unnecessary drama.

Avery and Ryder were seriously good together, both helping the other to find a way to deal with the unhappiness each felt in their lives.

Ryder's past was a sad one but again Jaclyn used a light touch when referring to it. Tge reader isn't bludgeoned over the head with tragedy.

I loved how while Avery tried to show Ryder that he could be anything he wanted, including a dad to his orphaned neighbour, it was ultimately Ryder himself who broke through his own fears.

I'm ni expert on American adoption or fostering, but the book's main plot felt believable to me and I fell for Chris big time. He was a cute kid and read as a 12-year-old and not some mini grown up.

Avery's family, his mum aside, were utter jerks but I felt that the later plot development with his dad also worked well.

Overall another great entry in this series.

A solid 4*. I really had fun with this one and couldn't put it down. Avery and Ryder were great together and really got to know one another slowly. Their banter was great, it seemed shallow at first but I liked how it stayed and helped relieve tension as they got deeper. Avery and Ryder had met about a year before the book started and were already attracted to each other but were not obsessed or in love before the book started. They met and had sex a year previously and the circumstances cause resentment on Avery's part but I liked that we don't start with that, it is revealed later which worked better. I liked that the "why now" question is answered so well. They team up to look for a kid who has lost his grandmother and in trying to help him they get to know each other. It was really smooth.
The plot with the kid was also engaging, it may be a bit too perfect but I enjoyed it. I really liked the found family aspect as well, even though again it may have been too perfect/smooth. I'm knocking down a star because the sex was meh, in the beginning there were too many references to previous couples I didn't remember all that well.

Jaclyn Quinn has taken a trope that can be cliché sometimes, the abused foster kid feeling unlovable, and written a genuinely touching story. Avery and Ryder’s interaction also starts with an enemies to lovers vibe since a previous encounter with Avery that Ryder does not remember. A 12 year old boy, Chris, who lives near Ryder has a crisis when his grandmother passes and the two men find common ground in helping him. I’m not always fond of stories with kids but I didn’t mind it here at all and Chris’s participation in the narrative is very balanced. The pacing was excellent on all fronts, without excess angst or becoming sex-heavy. Avery discovers the depth of Ryder’s insecurities and he has his own family troubles but the overarching theme of the series, creating chosen family, plays a huge role in how their relationship matures. Dual viewpoints provide great scope for characterization and the plot plays out in a natural feeling, uplifting but never saccharine way. Very good!

I fucking loved this book!!! My absolute favourite in this series!! Avery and Ryder are perfect for each other. This book broke me into pieces and then put me back together. This is dual POV and while it's a standalone I do recommend reading the series in order.

Ryder and Avery have dancing around each other for so long and we finally get their story! I knew this book was going to be epic but this was beyond my expectations. I loved their interactions and ofcouse the smoking hot sex scenes!

Chris is amazing Such a lovable kid. I love the family dinners with Eli and Jake, Nick and Dylan and their friends. My heart broke when Ryder talked about his childhood. I could feel the pain and I really wanted to hurt someone. Avery is possibly the only one to peal back his layers.

If it's isn't already clear, I looooove this book!! Absolutely recommended!!
I can't wait for Parker's book and ofcourse Mason,Grant and Sawyer!! Looking forward to them!

Yes!!!

I feel like I've been waiting on Ryder and Avery forever... I mean, I know I'm just impatient, but... come on!
I love this series so much and I couldn't wait for Ryder's story, because as much as I can't stand the whole "player" trope, or as Ryder liked to call it "nail it and bail it" ... I just knew there was a reason he was the way he was.
I was not prepared for how heartbreaking it was... growing up both in the system and with parents they kept giving him back to that in no way should've been in charge of a child. Abuse was what he was used to, from one home to another until he aged out of the system and did things he wasn't proud of to survive... both because he needed it to literally survive, but also to do things on his terms....

There is mentions of sexual abuse, but it didn't delve too deep, just enough to give you the idea of the torment he went through at such a young age. And it didn't stop there... How could you not fall in love with him and understand a little bit what made him hide behind his crazy sense of humor and his need for distance and easy hookups. He didn't think he was loveable... or worth love. That is, until Avery....

Avery was Kevin's best friend and honorary uncle to Eli and Jakes kids. If you haven't read their story yet... go back and do it; not only because you'll be caught up on who these people are, but their story is just as amazing.
Avery wanted what Jake and Eli has... having never quite felt good enough for his own family,(and you'll realize why when you read about them, they're terrible... at least most of them are)... he loved being apart of the family that made up of all the guys in Eli and Jake's group.... and that included Ryder.

Not getting off the right foot the first couple of times they met... Avery was charmed by Ryder but wanted more than he knew Ryder was willing to give.... and though Ryder liked Avery and wanted him in the worst way... he didn't think he was capable of any sort of relationship that Avery deserved.... however, when Ryders elderly neighbor passes away and the little boy that lived with her goes missing.... the two team up to not only find him but do what they can to make sure he has everything he needs to feel safe and loved.

I adored these two and their relationship with the little boy, Chris. Chris was so scared of being sent away and all he wanted was someone to see him and have him matter. His grandma did the best she could, but she was gone now and he had nobody.... well, so he thought... Avery wasn't going down without a fight and even though Ryder would've sworn that he wasn't role model material or father material.... everything he did was to protect Chris and do what he could for him.... Seeing Avery doing the same thing softened him up, but it wasn't without bumps in the road and late night confessions that set him back a bit... but they got there in the end...

I loved how real Ryder's problems weren't magically fixed just because he found love and let love find him. He was still working on himself and on what he wanted his future to be, even at the end of the book. When someone goes through such trauma, it doesn't get fixed just like that.... and I liked how Avery pushed just enough and then helped guide Ryder to healing... and i loved that Ryder wanted to heal and had two people worth healing for, if he couldn't find it in himself to heal for him... though I do think that he got there in the end.

The whole story was just heartbreaking and beautiful and such a great addition to the already amazing series. I cannot wait to see what's in store for Parker... and I hope it's intense! I also can't wait to see more from the rest of the guys, more weddings perhap??!! Fingers crossed!
All the stars for me on this one! All of them!

4 Stars for the series

Like the Haven's Cove stories, I read all of these in a short period of time. I find the author to be very readable, all the books contain a good balance of drama and romance. While some worked better than others, I enjoyed them all.

This wasn't my favorite of the series but still enjoyable. Probably 3.5 stars

An absolutely irresistible addition to the Beyond the Cove series, this book will take you on a journey you won’t soon forget. Ryder and Avery have been a hilarious and utterly intriguing enigma since the first book, and their story far surpassed my expectations. And considering Jaclyn Quinn’s books are some of the best in the genre IMHO, that’s saying a lot. This is a story about love and family and learning how to live the life you choose instead of letting it pass you by. These characters are layered and flawed and absolutely endearing, and the situation that is the catalyst for the new changes in their relationship (no spoilers here, sorry not sorry) along with Ryder’s past broke my heart into a million tiny jagged pieces... but then the author and the story put it back together again stronger than it was before. The emotions in this book had me all up in my feels, but the humor and banter present throughout provided a perfect balance. The story is well-written and compelling - it’s both hot and sweet, at times heartbreaking while at others heartwarming, and if you’re anything like me, it will leave you feeling hopeful with a full heart and a wide smile when you finish.

Ryder and Avery are fantastic MCs, but there are also so many supporting characters to love. I was so excited to get more of Jake, Eli, and the kids, and Nina and Stan are just #relationshipgoals, #parentgoals, and #friendgoals all at once. And Chris? He is just an absolute joy, and I wanted to reach through my kindle and hug him. Repeatedly. Five stars don’t feel like enough for how this book made me feel, and I’m already counting the days until the next in the series comes out.

What an incredible story. I was waiting for this story. With The chemistry between Avery and Ryder and the way they bickered at each other, I knew they'd have some kind of story.
What I didn't expect was what that story entailed. Ryder always seems like a happy to lucky guys. He always makes people laugh. He comes in to Avery like gang busters with that cocky attitude, but Avery started seeing a new side to Ryder. Especially when his neighbor died and the little boy was missing. He didn't want Chris to go through what he did in his life, so he was determined to make it right for Chris. But dealing with Chris is bringing up old scars for Ryder and he's having a hard time dealing. Avery is doing his best to be there for both of them, but sometimes it's hard. Especially when, Ryder shuts him out. Avery has an idea to hopefully make things better, but will it make Ryder happy or run scared.
I was shocked when I read Ryder's story. Completely shocked. I still am. I never saw it coming and it blew me away. But it explains some things. I was shocked with Avery as well. He finally let go and started to see a side to Ryder he never looked for before. And when he saw the changes in Ryder, he started changing himself. And for the better. Doesn't mean they didn't have bad days. They did. But both became better for knowing each other, whether they wanted to believe It out

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

I thought this was a wonderful story. Ryder and Avery have been trading barbs for the last year but only Avery remembers when they met before that. Ryder puts a good face on but never lets anyone see the hurt and pain that is underneath the surface. Avery has been struggling to be without his best friend and his barbs with Ryder help distract him from that but when Chris goes missing he sees a much different side of Ryder.

Ryder is so sure that he isn’t worth anything even though he has worked himself far from how he grew up and now has a wonderful group of friends he is sure that doesn’t make up for his past. Avery doesn’t feel like a disappointment until he visits his family, he has come to learn that his found family is so much better for him.

I loved watching Ryder and Avery navigate their attraction to each other and then their subsequent relationship. Ryder’s determination to help Chris brings out his past and we can see him struggle to deal with those memories. Thankfully Avery is willing to be patient and loving which is just what he needs. I loved how Avery just wanted to show him that he was worthy and then them becoming fathers was so wonderful.

The cover art by Cate Ashwood is great, I love the visual of the characters and it showcases their differences.

Appeal To You By Jaclyn Quinn

This book was a bit disappointing compared to the 2 before it. I loved the story of Avery and Ryder getting together, but it just seemed to take way to long for it to happen. Too much going on with Chris and it seemed somewhat of a duplicate, in a way, of the first book too.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Appeal to You is the third book in the Beyond the Cove series by Jaclyn Quinn and can technically be read as a stand alone, but will spoil previous books in the series. An opposite attract mm romance that is sure to dug at your heart strings.

"Ryder wrapped his arm around Avery's waist, leaning his face into Avery's neck. ' You're perfect for me.'"

Ryder is a play boy whose motto is "nail-it and bail-it" and he's been playing a cat and mouse game with Avery. Avery who wants more than a one night stand, especially another one with Ryder when he can't even remember the first. Ryder's young neighbor ends needing a home and Ryder doesn't hesitate to turn to Avery for help. The two of them come together to help the kid find a home. They also learn there's a lot more beneath the surface of each other and their feelings go way more than sexual attraction. Ryder has to face his past and trust in Avery in order to move on to get him own happy.

"I've never met anyone like you before. Strong in ways you don't even realize, kind in ways you completely deny, and sexy in ways that make me want you all the damn time."

This story is full of heavy topics, and Ryder really has to fight his inner demons to get the ending he deserves. Ryder has dealt with sexual and physical abuse while growing up in foster care, and he will do everything he can to keep his neighbor Chris go through that. His past has left a lot of emotional and physical scares on his body and Avery slowly has to show Ryder he is so much more than his past. Avery has is own issues and insecurities that you don't see right away but as his vulnerabilities come out, one occasion he actually brought me to tears. When they aren't dealing with the heavier issues, the banter and sexual innuendos between the two of them were fantastic. They have to work hard through emotional baggage to get together but when they do their first intimate scene is EVERYTHING and it was perfect for them!

"He tastes like sin and promise and need, so incredibly raw with his desire."

Appeal to You is story filled with great character, unconventional family, trust, personal growth and unconditional love. There's heart breaking discussions and beautiful moments that will make your heart melt. A book with a range of emotions that I highly recommend.

Opposites do attract!

Ryder and Avery are total opposites, or so they think! Ryder, a flirt and a jokester, allows himself to be the life of any conversation when he is with his friends. Avery, focused, serious, and seemed oblivious to Ryder’s flirtations!

But behind the silly goofball is someone who has gone through a shitty childhood, a childhood full of neglect and attention from the wrong people. He hides it all behind a carefree, devil-may-care attitude that covers his real character. But Avery is starting to see the real person behind the outrageous flirt, and he is at a loss as to how to deal with this person.

Helping each other look for a missing child is forging a new friendship or maybe, a relationship? Making sure that this child do not get lost in the foster care system is a task that Ryder plans to see through, and Avery is right there with him, helping him any way he can.

This story brought so much feelings to the surface, despair, helplessness, sadness (for Ryder who went through bad things while in the system), vulnerability (for both Ryder and Avery), hope, friendship, love and family. It is a very well-written story that illustrates how a person can become resilient and do what they can in order to survive. It brings hope to people who are down in their luck, people who think they had it bad. There is a thought that states if you think you had it bad, there are still people who has it worse than you!

Realizing that both of them deserve happiness because of who they are is something that both our MCs need to see, that they can have what their friends have, love and family! A very beautiful story! Thank you Ms. Jaclyn Quinn and Congratulations! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This series is going from strength to strength and there is so much love amongst the family that has been created, it's heartwarming to read.
In book three of Beyond The Cove, we follow Ryder, self proclaimed nail it and bail it man, and Avery, a man searching for his place in the BtC family. They've spent over a year trading barbs but things may finally get a helping hand when a neighbour of Ryder's passes away and her 12 year old grandson goes missing. Ryder has personal experience of the foster system and will do what it takes to protect the boy, showing himself in an even better light than what Avery was already coming to see.
Ryder and Avery's interaction is split between hilarious sparring and tough talking. There's a lot going on for both men with regards to thinking of their pasts and present but a possible future for them is inconceivable for Ryder. At times it makes for hard reading, thinking what a character went through as a child but there's a ray of hope as the men build on the shaky foundation that they created whilst searching for Chris. There's so much more to Ryder than you initially see and I love Avery for learning about him, especially the need to go slow.
I really enjoyed the interaction between Ryder and Chris, truly heartwarming scenes but also some that tug on your heartstrings. We get to meet up with all our favourite people from the previous stories and they've built such a loving environment not just for the children that have been adopted in but for all of the adults in need of it as well.
Highly recommend this book and the series overall. Though it could be read as a standalone, I'd recommend reading in order as relationships and stories develop over time.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This book got me so emotional. It took me a little while to really get into the story but once I was invested, it was hard to ignore just how emotional this story got me.

Ryder and Avery definitely caught my attention in "Thirst for You" and I really liked getting to know about these two characters. Ryder has a painful past but he has convinced himself that now he is going to live from himself without even realising how much his past is still holding him back. Avery was such a compassionate man, I really liked how he loved. I really liked how he approached Ryder and how their relationship grew. Avery is so strong that I sometimes would forget that he could also be vulnerable, and it was incredibly satisfying to see such a strong character be comfortable in his vulnerability.

I really liked Ryder and Aver's story. It is unlike anything I have ever read and I am really liking Jaclyn Quinn's way of writing and her approach to a story. It is unique. Ryder and Avery come together in their desire to help Chris lead a settled life when his grandmother's death leaves him without any family in the world. I really liked how Chris being in the story helped Ryder and Avery come together and how it all facilitated them to be a family.

There were a few chapters that really had me in tears because that was just how invested I was in these characters.

I think it is safe to assume that the next story we will be getting will be Grant, Mason and Sawyer's story because I can't wait to explore those three characters. #FINGERSCROSSED. Also, I really want to know what the deal between Parker and Jason is, I think that will be one angsty tale.

And another two bite the dust!

Starting with the first book of the Beyond The Cove series,Avery and Ryder have been providing a big part of the entertainment with their interactions. Outrageously flirty Ryder would say anything to get a rise out of stern Avery. I was looking forward to the occasions they would be in the same room because it guaranteed laughter, innuendos and snarky comments.

In Appeal To You things are bound to change and  get serious. When 12 years old Chris loses his grandmather and finds himself without any other living family, his rough, sad circumstances bring back all the dark childhood memories Ryder has been trying to bury deep inside his mind. It was hard to see sunny, cheeky Ryder spiraling out of control. On the upside, though,he also shows a different side of his personality to Avery,a side that only makes Ryder more irresistible to Avery, and even more difficult to fight the simmering attraction and need.

Ryder and Avery's story is one of self discovery, inner conflict and personal growth. Both men are confronted with their insecurities and fears, with hard choices and responsibilities. They come from hugely opposite backgrounds and at times it seems like they can't find a middle ground. Although it's a rough, heartbreaking journey to witness,I was so happy when they eventually found the strength to trust, open their hearts and just love.

Appeal To You welcomes you into the warm embrace of family. It's a messy, meddlesome, crazy family but full of laughter, sadness, joy and love.

I loved it!

1.5 ⭐'s.
I really liked the first series Haven's Cove, and although I really enjoyed Jake and Eli's story in the spinoff series Beyond the Cove, I've felt that the books have gone downhill from there. Drew and Zach's story was more of a thriller than a love story, and I dont even know where to start with Ryder in this one.

I loved Avery and Ryder's relationship with Chris, but Ryder was so frustrating throughout the entire book, and to make matters worse.... he doesn't really get all that better at the very end. His inability to move past his insecurities was taxing. It's a very 'human' thing to do, but his character just felt so one-dimensional. Even Avery was problematic for me as well because I felt he was just so disinteresting. Ive read the poor-me-disappointing-rich-boy tropes so often that that alone wasnt enough for me to actually give a shit about Avery.

I also felt like there were so many missed opportunity moments that Jaclynn failed to pick up on. Like the PA piercing and Avery's curiosity to feel it bare. Why bring it up and then never explore that thought process? Why didn't Ryder acknowledge his previous encounter with Avery more? It was barely mentioned. Even the sex was boring. They had been messing with each other for a year and the sexual chemistry was through the roof.. yet when they actually acted on it, it felt so uninspiring.

The story felt so anticlimactic and the storyline was so unbelievably predictable that I couldn't wait to just get it over with.

I've recently binged Jaclyn's A Haven's Cove and Beyond the Cove series and I'm totally hooked. I was beyond thrilled to discover that I didn't have to wait too long for the next book. And even better it was Ryder and Avery's story. We met Ryder and Avery in previous books. Ryder comes across as a flirt, a joker and trouble free but in this book we discover that there is no much more to Ryder. He's vulerable and had a terrible, terrible childhood and because of that he's put up a lot of walls. And Avery just might be the man not only trigger cracks to appear in those walls but to actually get through them.
The banter between this two man has been epic from the day they met. But Avery has a bit of a beef with Ryder after a previous encounter and when they meet again Avery is grieving the loss of his best friend. It takes awhile but eventually they catch feelings. Avery embraces them but Ryder is determined to ignore them. I loved seeing the way Avery is with Ryder and how he works to remove all the bricks in Ryder's walls.
And don't even get me started on Chris - adorable! That poor kid has been through soooooo much but his relationship with Ryder and then Avery later is totally heart melting.
If you haven't read Jaclyn yet I urge you to do so but start at the beginning. Already eagarly awaiting book 4.

I've finished this yesterday and than sat down and started writing the review and I couldn't put anything in writing because my head was all over the place. This series and these men have a special place in my heart. With every book I discover something band someone new to love and Avery and Ryder are no different.

They both have hearts of gold. While my heart bled for all that had happened to Ryder, I couldn't help but fall madly in love with Avery. The patience, understanding and unconditional love he gave to Ryder after he learned about his past was something so beautiful I was a sobbing mess for half of the book. It was absolutely amazing to see the way Ryder starting to open up more and more with each interaction either with Avery or Chris. I loved the pace how they came from annoying each other to be head over heels in love with each other.

This series gets better and better with each couple. I can't wait to see who's up next to find his HEA in this close connected "family".

Story: It was ok. I understand Ryder have baggage, but I'm not sure about how he dealt with it. I felt that everything was dumped and solve in a blink of an eye...and baggage like his, is NOT something easy to move away from without actual professional help.

I was waiting for Avery and Ryder’s story from previous books, but the chemistry and spark were missing? They were good together but I did not fall in love with them.

Then the plot about family being irritating and non accepting but the MC keeping a relationship with them despite the lack of love....it makes no sense to me. If your family is so worthless why keep a relationship with them.

Then Ryder is SO worried about Chris, but goes ahead and starts acting like a spoiled immature brat in front of the social worker.

I do like the topic of fostering, because lets say that it SUCKS big time. Probably only a handful of foster homes are actually good, the rest are just in for the money.

The overall book lacked feelings and emotions. I hope you enjoy it more than I did.....can't wait for Parker's story!

Mhm it was good. But that’s it.

Though if you are a fan of the author, series and/or trope try it because I have a feeling in this case it’s just me and not the book. I was waiting for Avery and Ryder’s story since “Drawn to You” and really looked forward to their HEA. But… for some reason there was this little spark missing, you know what I mean? And I can’t even put my finger on why what was. They were good together but just can’t hold a candle to Eli and Jake, they still remain my favorite couple ;)
I also wasn’t really moved by what Ryder revealed of himself. Probably because he told different pieces to different people and then everything was shoved into a closet and never mentioned again. For me it just lacked feelings and emotions overall.
BUT I really liked how the author introduced Chris into the story and also that he didn’t overrun the romance of the main couple (a certain author could follow her example here *cough cough*).

However I’m looking forward to the next book in the series whether it’s going to be the MMM one or Parker’s story.

Enough with the kids

Usually love this author. But I feel like I'm reading Jake and Eli point two. Do we really need another whole book about a kid whose parents died? At least in the last one I felt invested in the kids and what happened to them. This one is all very detached. Just could have cut the kid out all together or at least through 25%, cuz I made it to 40 percent before writing this and it's still the foster care novel. I read these books for the love story, not whatever this is. And honestly, as a parent I kind of like when there are no kids in the story until the epilogue.
