I love this book. It’s simple, but elegant, attractive and informative. It’s title indicates nostalgia, but that’s not really the feel of it. It is formatted with a full page of text about various styles of houses — Dutch Colonial, Federal House, Georgian, Italianate Brownstone, etc. — faces by a full page picture of an example of that house style. The text includes information on when and where the style originated, when it was most popular, details about the unique features of the house, etc.
This is a book for personal amusement, not a textbook, so it’s not going to make you an expert on architectural styles, but it may train your eye to better appreciate striking, unusual, and beautiful houses when you see them.

Unfortunately unsuccessful. I'm curious about architectural styles and thought that a introduction aimed at children would help... but I'm more bewildered than ever. Maybe I just don't have the eye for it... but all these houses tend to look almost the same to me. Devlin just didn't clarify anything. There's no location given for any of them (apparently deliberately for some reason). No 'further reading.'

But at least the pictures of the houses display them well, almost as if we've been driven past them.
