Very fun. Fairy tale-esque in its opening and solid high fantasy as it continues to its conclusion.

This book isn't part of my normal genre of reading, but seeing one of my closest friends wrote it was a must read for me. I don't know exactly what I was expecting besides it being set in a time of kings, sorcerers, & magic. I enjoyed this quick read though. It can some twists I wasn't expecting. Some of the things that happened I was completely surprised at. (I think it may be because I DO know the author & didn't think she'd take s0me of her characters down the road they went or do some of the things they did.)
With that being said, I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.

This book gets 4 stars from me because I could not put it down! I just had to know what happened next. That being said; don't get too attached to anyone, cuz they are probably about to bite the big one. A bunch of people died and the deaths could be gross. But it was never described in such a way that it made me queasy to read. (I have a weak stomach for that sort of thing)
I liked the magic elements in this world. They use a combination of potions, herbs, spells, and incantations to do a large variety of things. But all magic had its rules and limits.

What a great intro to this fascinating world

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are complex, the storyline is multifaceted, and the world has a life of its own. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series.
