Back in high school, Baxter pretended he didn't know me. I was a skinny, plaid-shirt-wearing nobody. I was openly gay, but nobody even cared — except Baxter, when he wanted a hookup. That was all a nerd like me could expect from the star quarterback and prom king. He treated me as his shameful secret.
I’ve stayed away from Baxter for a decade now, even when he came back to visit Honey Bay.
I’m older now. Wiser. I know I deserve better. But I can't stop thinking about those fleeting moments in Baxter's arms.
Andy Silver: my one weakness.
Every time Andy smiled at me from under his floppy hair, I couldn’t help myself. How could a nerd in wire-rimmed glasses be so hot?
It was a high school fling. I spent ten years running away from it. My parents never would have understood who I really was. Disappointing my father was out of the question. I couldn't live the life I wanted, even if I loved Andy more than he ever knew.
Bumping into Andy ten years later was the shock of my life. That shy nerd is a celebrity now? And he works out? I shouldn’t dwell on how much I miss being with him, even if every sight of him sends me there.
My parents sent me to Honey Bay for business. I might just stick around for a second chance at love.
Remember Him is a 42,000-word small-town second-chances gay romance. On their way to a feel-good happy ever after, a jock and a nerd dodge windmill blades, fog up the windows, and discuss the fine points of timber, lumber, and plain old wood.

I wanted to like this more than I did but there were many editing issues and lots of repetition. Things were not only repeated unnecessarily on the same page or even the same paragraph, but in the same sentence. There were also some timing issues, e.g. one moment they are leaving a noon lunch but by the time they reach Andy's home in the same town, it's dark out. All of this was very distracting.
It also pissed me off that Baxter kept being an ass and Andy would just forgive him, even after saying he wouldn't.

Golden boy returns to town with Andy on his mind: steamy heat in small town🌴 Florida😉 🔥👬🔥 🌅I found I liked the main plot and the obstacles presented to a second chance for radio talk show host Andy and Baxter, the guy that loved him in secret in high school and then left him. Their reunion after ten years gets close and oh, so personal almost as fast as Baxter's Lamborghini! Andy is the guy who seems to always get put upon when Baxter goofs up. The author mixed in some quirky elements, like Andy's repurposing of an abandoned mini-putt golf course.
There were some plot elements that struck me as expedient but not very realistic, mostly relating to Baxter getting away with minor consequences for his secrets and deceit. His dad also seemed as changeable as the wind, not what I expected in view of his early interactions with Baxter. But the attraction and fire between Andy and Baxter drove the story and were its main strength. I enjoyed it, though not as much as some of Steve Milton's earlier works, like Judging Valentine and his Dreamboat Island series, which included a bit more humor.
this was sweet and interesting.. i wasnt fond of the dad.. he seemed a bit wishy washy to me.. but the characters were fun and i enjoyed seeing them figure things out. very good
I found this book free on smashwords and absolutely fell in love with Honey Bay. Baxter and Andy felt so real that I could not stop reading. Quirky characters in a small town setting makes this book a must read!
DNF at I don't even know, but fairly early on. I felt like their conversations/interactions were odd. The dialogue didn't flow easily and on top of that, it was incredibly juvenile. It wasn't written in a way that would make me want to finish it.
I started reading this story in good faith only to have it spit back in my face.
Well, now that we have that dramatic opening statement out of the way, let me ask you just one thing. Did you read that summary? I mean sure not everybody will have the same favorite tropes but that summary had some of my favorite ones mentioned and I couldn't put this story on my Want to Read list fast enough. I expected so much from this and maybe I have only myself to blame because these kind of story lines with a character from one's past atoning for his past wrong doings always end up disappointing me. I will never learn, anyway let's start with the actual review.
Andy and Baxter used to secretly hook up (have unprotected sex) in high school until Baxter left for college without even saying goodbye never to return to their small town of Honey Bay, Florida ever again. (One of their encounters is explored in further detail in short absolutely gutwrenching novella linked before beginning of this story.) That is until he returns ten years later in order to buy local radio station where Andy now works as a radio host. Andy has grown some muscles and is something of their small town celebrity while hardly anyone, except the town's resident homophobe, even remembers Baxter anymore.
Right from the start Baxter is regretful and apologetic about the way he treated Andy. He's still attracted to Andy and is even willing to be seen in public with Andy as Andy's friend. The moment Baxter starts to apologize to Andy about his shitty behavior Andy forgives him.
"Andy. I'm sorry about how I treated you back then. I was awful."
"We were kids. Teenagers. Don't worry about it." I'd had that reply prepared for the past decate, for the unlikely - I'd thought - event that I would somehow run in to Baxter and he'd apologize. I'd practiced it so many times.
I mean that was basically it, all she wrote. Andy could have at least made Baxter work a little bit harder for it. The worst part was Baxter seemed like he was even willing to work harder for it but Andy was basically 'nah, man. we're totally cool.' In the summary Andy literally says I’m older now. Wiser. I know I deserve better. And he certainly is older and might even be wiser but when it came to Baxter he did not exactly act like he knew he deserved better.
I was actually surprised by what seemed like a beginning of an honest and open conversation between them especially so early on in the story. Except it didn't exactly go anywhere and we were back to their dialogue made up almost exclusively of juvenile jokes that were not even slightly amusing just corny and incredibly awkward to read (talk about second hand embarrassment).
Just when I thought Andy could not get more pathetic, we learn that Baxter was the last person he ever had sex with. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong about not having sex for decades and waiting for the right person instead, but up until that point there is so much lip service about Andy working on himself and becoming more confident and self assured person. This adult Andy was supposedly so much better than his teenaged self except then it is revealed that adult Andy was apparently still carrying such a huge torch for somebody who practically treated his as worthless all those years ago that he could not find any other guy to have even oral sex with. Not only that but he never even dared to fantasize about Baxter actually ever returning a favor of a blowj*b.
Even worse but it turns out that with the exception of his ex wife Baxter also never slept with anybody else. Which means, and this was the real tragedy, neither of them has learned anything about safe sex, lube or prep. They just continued where they left off ten year ago, having bad sex. Words like natural ass lube and buttholes were used without a trace of irony. I could have maybe forgiven butthole used ten years ago when they were still teenagers, but if I am being honest I found it unforgiving then as well.
One round of bad sex with Baxter and Andy fully embraces the role of being Baxter's doormat once again. At least until the point he discovers Baxter's (father's) evil plan for the radio station at which point he is done with Baxter but only until Baxter
Apart from Andy and Baxter's horrible romance and the abundance of typo's and misplaced words (which probably did not bother me as some other reviewers but still bears mentioning) I could not wrap my head around Andy and Baxter (and later even Baxter's father) giving each other thumbs up in every other interaction. Like thumbs up is this universal gesture that can be used unironically on multiple occasions? Also Andy and his mother (which I could not find a flaw with up until that point) holding a finger to their lips, pretending to be deep in thought. Which actual real human would even use this gesture in real life?
And the last offense was the fact that all through the story (and ten year before the story) Baxter's biggest fear and biggest obstacle to his relationship with Andy was coming out to his father and disappointing him. Only for this to turn out I mean really now.
I really wanted to like this story and I was willing to forgive a lot to this story except this story chose to do a lot of unforgivable things and unlike Andy I am not willing to just roll over and take it.
Themes: dual POV, nerd/jock (in the past at least), secret relationship (also in the past), closeted character, second chances, forgiveness, small towns (surprisingly open minded for the most part)
Good grief... this one read like a dude-bro would talk. First, lube is a thing, prep is a thing, using the word butthole is never sexy, there are laws about blackmail, and just nope. Not the series for me sorry. Glad it was free.
I love discovering new authors, It’s like a Christmas gift! I’m sad to say I hadn’t read anything by Steve Milton, but I picked up Remember Him on Booksprout as an ARC. Of course, I will leave an honest review, so let me discuss this book. This book is about old high school crushes who moved on in life but never got over one another. The handsome, popular jock Baxter has hidden his sexuality. The sweet nerdy Andy is the kind and forgiving boy who lived out and proud. Two totally opposite boys but one sweet history of hidden passions. One thing I don’t do is give spoilers, but I will say a few things about the characters. I loved Andy and his optimistic outlook and his willingness to forgive Baxter for breaking his heart, more than once. Baxter, though, he was harder for me to like. He was oblivious and did things over and over to hurt Andy. It’s hard to imagine how Andy could wipe it all away. I had a harder time forgiving Baxter. I guess it makes him more real since he’s like most of us, not perfect. The only issues I have with the book are not getting a satisfying ending with Joanna, and the last chapter seems sort of rushed. I felt like another chapter should’ve been between chapters fifteen and sixteen, but overall it was a great book. I’d definitely recommend this book if you enjoy a good romance with some heat. I look forward to reading the rest of Honey Bay’s stories.
This is a romance spanning 10 years. Beginning in high school like so many. Then in a flash it ended. Leaving both men devastated for years. Marriage then divorce to a female for one. Which lead to blackmail. I know can you imagine divorcing your wife then she blackmails you for years saying she will tell your father, your boss that you are gay. There goes your job, your family, your trust fund because of a greedy ex wife. Wait until you read about this gem. She is a major treat.
Now the other man who once was a shy thin nerd that spoke to few in high school now has a Thor type body, known for his radio show & loved because of the projects for the LGBTQIA+ Community such as the Pride Parade. And for a small town that is major huge. Years pass, 10 years of not seeing, talking or even texting each other until fate steps in bringing them back together. If they can forgive themselves for being a butt to the other, ghosting the other & just leaving, disappearing, moving after graduation without even saying goodbye. Yeah, seriously.
This is the beginning of their major love story. Loved it…
Sometimes, you can go home again, it just may not be what you expected. In high school, Andy was the out, geeky nerd and Baxter was the sexy jock. Andy, was Baxter's dirty little secret. Baxter had expectations from his father, JD, that he prioritized over his desire and love for Andy. Baxter was sent back to Honey Bay, with a million dollar check to buy the radio station, WHON which Andy's Mom, Alice and the town now owned. Andy, was changed. He was more sexy, cut and built. The attractions was there on both parts. Baxter gets his chance, he needs to present to the town his ideas for WHON. He needs to make it right with Andy! What will they do? Will Andy allow himself to be used like in high school? Has Baxter grown enough not to 'use' Andy? Will Baxter put his dad before Andy? What happens to WHON? What will Alice say? Great story. Excellent likeable funny characters. Nice series introduction. Well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Nice cover art!
The characters didn't grip me and the story was mostly predicatable. I didn't feel emotionally invested in the main characters even though it is one of my favourite genre Jock / Nerd past hurt and forgiveness. I feel that part of the problem was the past was not built up so it became more of an insta love story.
After all this I would likely have given the novel a 3 star, except for the fact that his ex-wive never faced consequences for blackmailing him, she was just not mentioned again, surely after coming out he would have stopped paying. How did his father react when she inevitably tried to out him after the fact.
Also I believe blackmail is a felony in America? So she could have goten some jail time... Perhaps we will see what happens in her brothers novel, but I'm not invested enough anymore to find out.
I really enjoyed reading this second chance romance between these two guys. Baxter and Andy had a friendship back in high school that led to intimacies. Which all took place in secret...much to Andy disappointment. So when Baxter came back to town after 10 years away, Andy thought things would change.Their mutual attraction was still there and just as intense. I enjoyed their banter with each other...very funny at times. Andy was the best. I really loved his character and he made sure that Baxter knew he wasn't that same teen he could get over on too. Baxter was sweet but a little lost. After being around Andy everything fell in place with his life. A very lovely HEA for both guys.

This is entertaining, romantic and sweet. When Baxter and Andy were in high school they had a secret relationship, because Baxter was straight, or so he wanted people to believe, and Andy was openly gay. Baxter left for college and never contacted Andy, breaking Andy's heart. In the ten years since graduation, neither stopped thinking about the other. Baxter was afraid that his father would disown him if he knew that Baxter was gay. When Baxter gets sent back to his hometown to buy a radio station, he runs into Andy, and things pick up where they left off. But Baxter isn't ready to come out still. Problems with the sale and problems between Baxter and his father complicate everything. I really liked these two and was very surprised by the ending.
I wanted to like this more than I did. I like reunion stories, and I like low angst, but this just seemed too simple. Baxter was a real jerk, but Andy just accepted everything with no questions. Then, Baxter was so worried about his family, but it felt like stuff with his family and his ex was overblown and unnecessary. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. I felt like we were built up to not like his father, but then it did a full 180 where I almost got whiplash. It just felt disconnected to me. I did like Andy and his mom a lot.
Baxter came back to Honey Bay to buy the radio station his family once owned but also to try and get Andy his high school boyfriend back. He left ten years ago without telling Andy good bye. Andy never forgot Baxter but he never forgot how hurt he was when Baxter left without a good bye. Baxter and Andy both want this to work but Baxter has a secret that could tear them apart. I really enjoyed this book.
I really liked this book. It’s 3.5 almost 4 stars for me. I really liked Andy. He was damaged 10 year ago emotionally, but put his life together and moved on....mostly. Baxter was the guy that broke his heart, and came back and tried to reclaim it. And eventually did. It was a good read. The only thing I wasn’t totally sold on was how easy Andy was at forgiving Baxter, but it did work out in the end. A good read!

I provided a two star rating because the book is in desperate need of editing. There are typos or missing words throughout the entire book. I normally read right over then but it’s not possible with this book. Additionally, despite a good story line the dialogue was choppy, awkward, and things were repeated. At one point the main character finds out the same thing (and is surprised) at two different times.
The story is simplistic and sugar sweet, so if all you need is MM love and sex, then here’s your book. Frequent grammatical errors and several descriptive errors for Florida lifestyle, even so bizarre as to claim Key lime pie was green (it’s not - key limes, and the juice, are pale yellow.)
Baxter and Andy were together in school but then Baxter left for college and never came back for Andy. Baxter’s dad sent him to buy the radio station for a racist group but the town said no to the buy out. Baxter and Andy told Baxter’s parents that no one was to brake them up and his family was ok with it. So they got their happy ending!
This is a fun story about making assumptions, a childhood relationship and being happy. The main characters are engaging and the story is heartwarming. Delightfully sexy.
This was the first book I've read by Steve Milton and what an awesome surprise Baxter and Andy's story is absolutely funny, charming and extremely sexy.

Novella with the reunion trope for besties- 10 years later. (East) coast beach town, radio station and coming out fill Milton's plot with humor, heat and mild angst.
This was a good quick read. It was to quick at the end. Felt like it needed to be “wrapped up” to quickly. I was there was more to the epilogue as well. Overall well written with a good storyline. Just a little rushed at the end.
I was extremely pleased with this book. I can't wait for more in the series. It was a great flowing novel with low angst. I was very excited with the ending.
