2, 4, 6, 8, math with dinos is so GREAT! This Step 1 early reader will introduce the fundamentals of addition and the concept of "doubling."
First there's one dinosaur, then two, then four... keep up the doubling and there will sixty-four dinosaurs before the story's through. The dinosaurs like to stomp and play, but they seem to keep multiplying. This math reader is a great introduction to the concept of addition and doubling.
Step 1 Readers feature big type and easy words for children who know the alphabet and are eager to begin reading. Rhyme and rhythmic text paired picture clues help children decode the story.
Diana Murray is the author of UNICORN NIGHT (an Amazon Best Book of the Year from the bestselling UNICORN DAY series) and GOODNIGHT, VEGGIES (a Jr. Library Guild Selection), as well as many other picture books and early readers. Diana grew up in New York City and still lives nearby with her husband, two creative kids, and a dancing dog. http://www.dianamurray.com
What an absolutely brilliant melding of early reader leveled text, a simple math concept, dinosaurs, and a rollicking rhyme scheme! Diana Murray makes a very tall order look easy, while Mette Engell's energetic illustrations of an alarmingly increasing number of dinos adds to the fun. Whether your kid is obsessed with dinosaurs or not, this is an essential addition to any young reader's library. Highly recommended.
I'm confused about Double the Dinosaurs. It's recommended for "Grade level: Preschool - 1" and it's described as "This Step 1 early reader will introduce the fundamentals of addition and the concept of "doubling.", however I think it's less early addition and more early multiplication. Further, words like 'roaring', 'romping' and 'crowding' will frustrate a very early reader.
That said, it's fun and silly and kids will enjoy the rhyming and illustrations.
How do you make exponents fun? Add dinosaurs, of course! Kids will enjoy learning the concept of exponents with a group of dinos that keeps growing and growing and gr - well, you get the idea! Fun rhyming verse shows readers how quickly numbers can increase when they keep doubling (1 becomes 2, 2 become 4, 4 become 8...) Once the number of dinosaurs has grown too large though, the author finds a creative way to make them disappear - and no, it has nothing to do with an asteroid, ha!
This easy-to-read book is brightly illustrated and focuses on math - adding and doubling. First there is one dinosaur, then two, then four, then eight, and so on, up to sixty-four .. but wait! More than that is too many for the swamp to hold. For children who know the names of the different kinds of dinosaurs, this will be extra fun.
DOUBLE THE DINOSAURS is so clever--and double the excitement, as the dinosaurs keep doubling until--well, you'll have to read for yourself. Diana Murray's solid rhyme and repetition + the energetic illustrations by Mette Engel = math concept fun!
A fun and clever dinosaur story that combines counting and doubling with an ever-growing number of dinosaurs. Where will it all end? Young readers will gobble up all of this stomping, splashing, crunching, munching dinosaur mischief.
Readers' delight will multiply as the dinosaurs in this book continue to double and double and double again. What a fun way to reinforce math skills! And Diana Murray does it with delightful rhyme to boot! Dinosaurs and verse- double the fun!
Double the Dinosaurs is a fun early reader for kids just beginning to read on their own. Kids love dinosaurs and parents love kids learning. Double the Dinosaurs uses heavy prehistoric beasts and light rhyme to teach young readers how to double. Kids will enjoy reading this aloud.
What a fabulous introduction to multiplication. This is a rollicking, fun read. I loved the simple, accessible math. And dinosaurs! Everything is better when dinosaurs are involved!
