When Scuttle wrecks the sand castle that Ariel had built on the beach, the two must learn to understand each other's feelings in order to save their friendship.
Friends can do things that hurt each other's feelings but doesnt mean they did it on purpose. We should be understanding and forgiving is what I took away from this. Good message but ..... the way it played out was just ok. The characters seemed out of character to me lol
When I was a younger Disney-raised child my favorite film was "The Little Mermaid" since I could just relate to Ariel even though I wasn't quite a teen yet. As a result I was normally fascinated by almost anything that was film-based while as a result I came across a few books that were from the Little Mermaid's Treasure Chest. Unfortunately I never got a chance to find all the books but the few I have read I have truly enjoyed.
In a quick summary the Little Mermaid's Treasure Chest is a series in which the reader is taken into the world of Atlantica when Ariel was quite younger (just like the Disney cartoon series) and given some stories that focus on her younger days. As a result the reader is given a chance to meet older characters that they have already fallen in love with as well as newer characters that outside the series you really never see again. At the same time each book is focused on giving a moral-based tale for young readers to help them learn a very important point.
As such the writing is short and easy-to-understand while the reader will have no problems in relating to the events that are told. And to keep the younger audiences in mind the story is normally brief, easy to relate to in general life and provides the lesson straightforward so the reader knows what the moral is.
This was one of the original reads that I had read as a youngster and one that has stuck with me. Although it is easy to read and understand what brings this story to mind for me the most is the lesson since it is one that we so often face in our own lives and even though we know that we should work on forgiveness as well as trying to see the world from the other's viewpoint it is still a hard lesson to learn.
And like the other books this particular one continues on the bright and colorful illustrations that will remind readers of the film itself although it is more over the seas than some of Ariel's other adventures.
All in all this is one series that as a whole would be fun to re-see its release, especially since there are so many Disney Princess-based products now.
My mom recently re-gave me the Little Mermaid Treasure Chest book collection she had been saving in the attic. I remember loving this book series as a kid. And I still do. Loved the message of how to solve a disagreement with those you love.
The only thing saving this from 2 stars is the fact that other more side characters are in it. I really feel like the way Ariel acts is way out of character.
