“We want no proofs; we ask none to believe us! This boy will some day know what a brave and gallant woman his mother is. Already he knows her sweetness and loving care; later on he will understand how some men so loved her, that they did dare much for her sake.”
I enjoyed the book and the reader did a great job! I did tire of all the social limits on women! There were many surprises in the book that I had assumed from watching movies. I'm glad I read it!
Did it take me approximately 1,5 years to finish this book? Yes. Is it one of my favorite books now? Also yes. Dracula is such an amazing book, appropriate for every genre. There’s love, horror, travel diary, detective work, mythical creatures, mental asylum, a cowboy, symbols for queer people, forbidden desires, and so on - whatever you could possibly think off.
It is a classic for a reason. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of gothic and/or classic literature, it is fascinating so see what elements of the book where picked up in pop culture and what was forgotten. But it also holds up as a spooky and engaging story in my opinion.
