Serpent Dieu #1

Las lágrimas de Odín

Rate this book

A forgettable plot not compellingly told, with artwork that's not very good at conveying facial expressions (this supposedly-furious face looks quietly sad, these 'extremely afraid/alarmed' faces often just look kinda constipated, not like someone who's about to recklessly stick their neck out), which gives the reader a unnecessarily harder time figuring out exactly what's going on. It sprinkles in lots of Norse terms to try to emphasize the setting, yet at the same time isn't big on accuracy ('vikings' are Norsemen engaged in the act of raiding, so you don't rally your home-defenders by calling them 'vikings'; also, what the heck are these girls wearing???).
It supposedly involves direct involvement by Odin and a divine turf-war between Odin and Loki, but we never see or even feel any of that ("Oh, when a fight happens this guy's eyes turn red and he goes bersek!" Okay, but what else? Anything...?)
The protagonist--there isn't a clear one, but I'm assigning the berserker that status, since the berserker-curse marks him out from everyone else--is supposedly one of three divinely-chosen warriors, which is mentioned several times, but we never get the slightest whisper, hint, or foreshadowing of who or where the other two are, so it feels like just another detail cluttering up the scene. It's a very short graphic novel, but even so I found myself skimming through the second half.
I won't look for the second volume.
