Rate this book
VAMPIRES FROM OUTER SPACE INVADE EARTH TO FEAST ON THE BLOOD OF THE LIVING!Years ago, Drakulon—a planet of living vampires, where it rains blood instead of water—was faced with a terrible drought. So they sent Space Scouts out into the cosmos to search for a new home—one where blood was plentiful. The bravest of these volunteers was the beautiful and bold Vampirella, who found herself marooned on a strange new world—one called Earth. Unable to return to her home, Vampirella sets about making a new life for herself on a planet where all other vampires are undead creatures born of evil. Over the years, she becomes famous as a monster hunter and defender of the weak and powerless. She even finds friendship and, for a time, love. But, one day, the skies of Earth fill with spaceships as Vampirella’s people, led by General Orlok, finally arrive on the only other planet in the universe where blood flows as freely as it did on Drakulon.Vampirella is, at first, delighted to be reunited with her long-lost love, Tristan, and eager to help her people make a new beginning on her adopted home-world. But when she rebels against General Orlok’s dark plans for Earth, Vampirella is branded a traitor and made a political prisoner until she escapes with the help of her sworn enemy, Count Dracula! Together with her best friend, the were-woman Pantha, Vampirella must put aside her hatred of monsters as she fights alongside an unholy rebel army compromised of witches, the living dead, and Dr. Frankenstein and his patchwork creations, in order to save not just the human race, but the Earth itself!Because, as they The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

3 AND 1/2 STARS

I grew up reading Nancy A. Collins, specifically her two and a half year run on DC’s iconic Swamp Thing. I always enjoyed her writing, clear and direct, without a lot of fat. And this latest novel by Collins, Vampirella: Blood Invasion, is no different. Although this time, the content felt a lot more geared for a YA audience. The action, at times, seemed quite over-the-top, but the attitude and energy of Vampirella remained intact.

The melding of the mythos regarding Dracula and Frankenstein was beyond silly, but at least Collins kept the book consistently ridiculous. It was very light reading and perhaps was more suited for die-hard fans of Vampirella instead of the casual reader. I found many of the twists and the invasion scenario very similar to the 1980’s mini-series and tv series “V”. I also found typos in nearly every single chapter, something that Dynamite Books should have caught before publishing. Regardless, it was a fun read and I look forward to the next prose book in the Vampirella series.

A different kind of Vampirella story.

Usually Vampirella faces supernatural evil but in this novel she faces her own alien species. With the aid of her greatest ennemies , Vampirella must stop the invasion of earth by her own spaceborn Drakulonean brethren. Some romance, inner conflicts and quite a bit of gory action. This novel pleased this longtime Vampirella fan. Some grammatical errors to be found but nothing too distracting. A great way to spend a lazy summer day.

In the classic ‘Warren’ tradition.
First things first: it's a comic book novel. That being said, it's a decent, entertaining one. The narration is hit-and-miss and struggles with vocabulary but author Nancy Collins has a firm grasp on the distinctive voice of the Warren characters (particularly the main character and Warren’s weirdly complex Dracula) and a sharp eye for arresting set pieces.

After reading Nancy Collin's run on Swamp Thing I decided to give this a try.

It's neither good nor well written but Collins doesn't shy away from the 1970's pot head hot nonsense that formed the Vampirella origin story and I have to give her a little credit for steering into each and every narrative skid the continuity of those crazy, dumb comics sent this book into.

Love how cheesy these books are; this one sees Vampi taking on aliens from her home planet who are attempting to invade earth. More sci-fi and pulp than horror but still buckets of bloody fun.

I found this to be an engaging story but a little poorly written.

A low expectation read for me,
Modern pulp style,
satisfied a Vampirella fix.
