This book is had such a positive reaction with the children I read it too. The book really makes you feel part of the story and gives the children opportunities to engage with the story. The use of the expressive language and the illustrations really kept the children hooked on the story as well.

My daughter (named Ella) LOVES this book. I like that at the end, she says she will marry him when she gets to know him first. Haha!

Love Roxanne Rainville's illustrations. The text is simplified and geared towards a younger audience. However, the text does rely on prior knowledge of the story at some points. Stansbie also makes significant changes to the ending. The father does not die (yay!); he is just on a (very, very) long journey. When he finds out how his wife and stepdaughters have treated Ella, he throws them out.
