What happens when the guy who can have anyone has finally met his match?
Can he show the girl that doesn't believe in love how true his feelings are?
Well he has 30 days to do it!

I freaking loved Violets are NOT Blue! This is my first time reading Melissa Toppen, but it will not be my last. She is a fantastic author and this book was super funny, so freaking sweet, and holy smokes was it HOT!!! I loved how jaded Blue is on the whole romance thing and how snippy she can be, it makes her seem so freaking real but not in a horrible person kind of way. Now freaking Harris, I didn't know how to read this guy at first and was so happy he has his own POV to get inside of his head, but this guy is special y'all, and he is definitely persistent!

All in all, if you like lovely romantic comedies with some bets in play with a determined main man and a stubborn leading lady- Violets are not Blue is the book for you, I loved it- 4.5 outta 5!

PS: Thank you to Melissa and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

Melissa Toppen is a “must-read” author for me and while I absolutely love everything she writes, I was very glad for this ‘lighter’ read. When my tears fell this time, they were tears of happiness and connection with the characters--not sadness—which is exactly what I needed after her last two books. I found there was a little angst, but it only enhanced the story and the tingly feelings when things got better.

Harris and Blue’s story was the perfect remedy to my rather mundane and boring love life. After the courting comes ‘real-life’ and Violets Are Not Blue allowed me to escape that and reminisce. Harris had me longing for the special “date nights” and “butterflies” that go along with a new relationship. Their unconventional pairing made way for them to drop their guard a bit, perhaps pretend what they were feeling wasn’t real, but ultimately neither one could deny that they may actually be made for each other.

Harris went from a player to a romantic in about 6 seconds, I think he may have surprised himself as well. Blue brought out the man in him who longed for commitment and that little something more. Blue on the other hand is a die-hard non-believer in all things love related, so Harris had his job cut out for him. For every step forward Harris took, Blue contrived some kind of excuse to block her heart from feeling, but I don’t think any woman would every be able to ward off those “Violets Are Not Blue” love poems for ever. Blue gave him a run for his money but he never gave up, he saw through her facade and kept the faith. He melted my heart and was winning every step of the way.

I must say that although Blue frustrated me a time a two and had me wondering just what she needed from Harris to get on board with his declarations of love, I did enjoy her character and the easy connection they seemed to find. I enjoyed feeling the twinkle in her eyes when Harris seemed to do everything right and brought back her belief that maybe love does exist. Harris redeemed himself over and over in my eyes and he can take me to a ball game any day!

I love office-romance, it's one of my favourite tropes, so I absolutely fell hook, line, and sinker for Harris and all his office antics when it came to Blue. I totally recommend this contemporary romance written in dual POV for the romantics out there who just want a feel-good book to curl up with on a weekend.

This is an office romance that begins when Blue is paired off with Harris who is the guy in the office that everyone considers a playboy. However Blue is against love in any shape form or fashion. She lives her life in such a way that it is the same thing every day. Work, gym repeat. Harris has made up his mind that he is going to pursue her in the office from nine to five. This could have possibly been a cute little office romance but holy cow these characters really got on my nerves. I don't know how many times it is said that Blue doesn't believe in love or anything to do with it. I got it she doesn't want to be in love. Which leads me to Harris who for being a "playboy" he sure doesn't know how to pick them. Blue neither like him or trusted him so I don't get why he was so adamant about pursuing her. This story dragged on and on and on for me and I had to lay it down way to many times and work up the nerve to pick it up again. I have read several of Melissa Toppen's books and while this one had the potential to be amazing it fell short for me.

Blue Daniels doesn’t believe in love, well she kinda does just not for her. Not since she had her heart broken years ago. Now she lives her life for fun. Hey...it works for some guys, right?

Harris Avery is the hot office womanizer, at least that’s what Blue believes he is.

One thing leads to another which leads to a bet which leads to....feelings!?!

I enjoyed this story! It was fun and easy and sexy!

I enjoyed this book. This enemies to lovers romance was very well written. I really liked Harris. He is hot, charming, flirty and quite the playboy until he firmly sets his sights on Blue. Then you see he is a very sweet, funny, determined and totally swoon worthy book boyfriend. I wish I could say that I loved Blue as much, but honestly, I just didn't. I felt for her and completely understood the walls she had around her badly battered and wounded heart. That being said, denial is not just a river in Egypt and I eventually grew tired of her anti-love mantra and her desperate need to distance herself from Harris. It was very frustrating and it made me feel just awful for Harris. Still, if you can get past that and stay focused on all the good things about this book, you'll find that this is a really good read. I am posting and independent, impartial review.

This one will be hard to review. While I LOVED Harris, Violet's 'no love' stance got old fast and it was harped on the entire book. Like 97% of it.

What could have been a great love story, was just eh and something I don't like in books. Much like with Hallmark movies, declare love and it's over. I want my love stories to go beyond the 'I love you'. I want the grittiness OF LOVE.

While I adore Harris and his flowers and poems, I never understood how he could still chase Violet.

There were also some non-plausible things that had my eyes rolling.

While this didn't really jive with me, I know others will just LOVE it, because of how Hallmark it is.

More of 3.25 stars, but I'm rounding up since it did hit more than 3 stars.

~~I volunteered to read an advance copy.

A non spoiler review....

A sweet and sexy story.
Harris had me swooning like a teenager. He’s the ultimate Book Boyfriend ladies! The way he he try’s to win her over is... ahhh I just love him.
Gahhh I seriously adore this story and these characters. There’s a bit of everything in this book, enough to keep you turning those pages.

Blue and Hannah cracked me up. I adored their friendship. I adored their interactions. Love when a best friend is written in.

It’s a fun lighter read with relatable characters. Grab this one ladies and watch the games unravel.

This is a cute romantic comedy, but I was less than impressed with Blue's outlook on love throughout the book (I wanted to shake her sometimes lol). But as this is Melissa Toppen's fantabulous writing, the dialogue is fresh, funny, flirty and sweet.

Blue and Harris were very entertaining since the roles were reversed; she didn’t believe in relationships and he was determined to wear her down and that’s where there adventure begins. Blue was adamant that she want anything to do with Harris but deep down she had feelings for him. Harris was attracted to her from the first time he met her and his pursuit for her never gave up. It was admirable to see how persistent he was. Very good read.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 Enjoyable & Heartfelt!

Violets Are Not Blue
By: Melissa Toppen
Narrated by: Leanne Woodward

I enjoyed this book immensely, the story is a fabulous delight, a perfect weekend read or listen. Melissa Toped is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, her story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. Her characters continually develop throughout the story, they are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Past experiences with men has made Blue Daniels a cynic when it comes to love. She does not think to highly the new comer in her office, Harris Avery, a charmer and star amongst the women at work. She steers clear of him and his kind, but he has his eye on her and was waiting to make his move. When opportunity arises he does just that and makes it a challenge for Blue, one she can not back down from. He is determined to win her over, she is determined walk away. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, a touch of angst, humor, heartfelt and emotional moments and some hot romance. Melissa Toppen, thank you for this wonderful story, the witty dialogue and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Lisa Woodward a talented narrator and a versatile voice artist. She did an awesome job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions and personality. She covered the voices for all the characters, performed both the male and female roles giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. She handled the witty dialogue with ease and landed the humor flawlessly. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fantastic listen🎧

If you are looking for a fun, sweet listen, look no further. Melissa Toppen has Violets are Not Blue for you! Violet is not looking for a relationship. Ever. Hurt before and deciding what her priorities are, men just don't make the cut. In comes Harris, the player, the one that no one says no to. They make a dating bet, but who is going to be the winner? Harris has found the one for him, but will he be able to convince Violet he is all in and not like the others? This is the kind of listen I love on the weekends. It's low angst, high on humor and romance and has characters that are easy to love. Harris is wonderful. Moving into a relationship for him seemed easy. Violet is a tough cookie, and isn't sold on the change. Trust is a big issue for her. The flowers and poems, the date nights and fun romantic times had me sold. Leanne Woodward brings out all the humor and good times with a fabulous narration. Easy to listen to, her voices are distinct and flow with ease. I enjoy her pace and her variety of voices. She always makes my ears happy.

This is an office rom com about Blue who doesnt believe love exists after being hurt in the past. She thinks that its just a chemical reaction in the brain and it's not real.

Enter Harris Avery who has worked at Blue's office for 6 months and has a reputation for being a ladies man. She despises him. She thinks he is a womanizer, and does not like him at all.

I would have really liked this book more if it wasn't for Blue's character. It seemed like every other sentence she was dissing how much she hated love and commitment.

I loved the friendship between Blue and Hannah. They were hilarious with some of their antics.

Harris was my favorite out of the whole book. His little love poems were so cute. He really tried everything to win Blue over no matter how much she protested that it was just a bet.

I enjoyed Blue and Harris's story, but it wasn't anything special. There wasn't quite enough sexual tension for me before they "hooked up", but some might appreciate that. It's a low angst, light romance that was great for my Saturday afternoon.

Harris is a real dreamboat... totally different public image than who he is on the inside. He knows what he wants and never waivers about getting it.

Blue is bordering on the annoying female line though; her reaction to :the spoiler: was weak. I dislike that kind of knee-jerk reaction.

The narrator (Leanne Woodward) had a pretty voice tone that almost reminds me of Lorelei King. Sometimes it was difficult to tell who was talking because her performance of the dialogue between two characters all ran together. A longer pause would have helped. And she pronounced words like "known" as "know-en" which was distracting.

I absolutely loved this story! It just made me smile multiple times. The story is so sweet! He secretly likes her but was told hands off...now he has a chance and he is not going to waste trying to get her to be his...forever. These characters are simply wonderful. He has a poor reputation and she is off love. There is Some challenges made with each other and each thinking they are a shoo in to win. What I love is all the sweet things he does for her to get her to fall for him.

I really enjoyed this! I loved her name (Blue Daniels) his name (Harris) as well as the whole “Roses are Red” notes. There were a couple moments that I didn’t understand why she would do what she did. But que sera sera... I liked the characters and the story. I did listen to this on audio and Leanne Woodward did the narration. She does a good job.

4 Star Review Violets Are Not Blue by Melissa Toppen

AUDIO REVIEW:

Melissa Toppen is a new author to me and I am surprised I have not come across her books before. Narrator Leanne Woodward is also new to me.

This is Blue Daniels and Harris Avery story
Although there was some angst there wasn’t too much which was good.

These two should not work as a couple and yet they do. I enjoyed the push and pull dynamics of their relationship. I also liked that Blue was not afraid to stand up for her beliefs.

I loved how all in Harris was and that he was determined to show Blue that he is the one for her; he is totally swoon worthy.

There was humour and romance and the narrator did a good job with her performance.

Will Harris be able to convince Blue? One click and find out.

This book was simply lovely and entertaining like a breeze of fresh air. It was my very first read by Melissa Toppen. I was laughing and I was sad and I very much loved the rhymes.
I loved Harris' persistence and Violet's denial, they actually fit like a pair of gloves. From hate to love, from disappointment to happiness.I truly enjoyed the whole story and also the narration was greatly done.

Could have been a 5 stars read...

I loved Harris so much - he's sexy, funny, charming, romantic *swoon* ❤️

... and then there's Blue. Unfortunately I didn't love her as much as I loved him. Yes, her heart was broken and she wanted to protect herself with these walls she built around her heart but her anti-love-motto was annoying. She kept him at a distance and denied her feelings.

Otherwise the story was great. 👍🏻

Blue Daniels hates love and doesn't believe that it exists after catching her now ex-fiance cheating on her. She is a business analyst for a medical technology firm and is best friends with Hannah who is trying to convince her that she just hasn't met the right guy yet.

Harris Avery is a really good looking guy that works with Blue but she also sees all the women fawning all over him and knows his reputation of getting around the office.

One night Harris and Blue end up making a bet and it's Blue's heart on the line. How far is Blue willing to go to protect her heart even when she realizes she could be wrong?

I liked this book but I must admit that at times I really wanted to strangle Blue.

I understood why Blue didn't believe in love anymore but at the same time she had only been in two "real" relationships and she was basing everything off that and even though her parents had a great marriage. She was so cynical and after a while it drove me crazy.

Harris was such a playboy at the beginning of the book yet once he "pledged" himself to Blue he was so dedicated to her and I loved all of the little things he did for her. I loved the flowers and even the smallest detail like writing on the cards and making poems. I thought the ball game was an incredible touch and how Harris really went all out for her. At the same time Harris's past caught up to him a few times in the book and I felt bad for Blue but she was always quick to assume the worst.

Harris to me showed right from the beginning that he wasn't playing a game with Blue and he was constantly checking up on her to make sure that she was ok and that he would be there for her. When she was away he was checking up on her and she really appreciated that but at the same time she would tell herself that it wasn't true and that's what was killing me about the whole thing. Blue would feel appreciated and loved and then she would tell herself that it wasn't real and that she couldn't feel that way so she wouldn't.

I understood why Blue was so upset after the hospital and the dilemna she was faced with but again she blocked out Harris even though he said he would be there for her regardless of any outcome. Yet once again she pushed him away and by then I was honestly getting tired of it and I thought Harris should save himself the heartache and just run in the other direction.

When Blue finally realizes how she feels she shows up at Harris's to only jump to the wrong conclusion again but lucky for her, he was crazy about her and did what he could to make everything better.

The end was great and I was happy that Blue finally realized love could happen!

This is the first book I have read by Melissa. I was torn with this book. Harris and Blue have a love/hate relationship in the beginning of the book. Blue’s feelings toward Harris change as the book goes on. They get to know each other through a bet. What had me torn is how they are in the beginning. They way they talk to each other. If some part of Blue didn’t like him it would have been considered harassment. They make a bet and if she loses then Harris gets her. While it does have a happy ending, I was torn for the beginning part of the book. Blue fights her feeling for Harris for pretty much all of the book. She doesn’t believe in love lasting. The book overall was a good story line and the characters were interesting. I still am not sure about it.

"Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Forget everything good you’ve been told about love, because none of it’s true."

It was these three lines that had me expecting a whole lot of fun in this story, but it just wasn't that. First of all, it took me a minute to get into the story but that wasn't the issue. My big issue was how much Blue had to talk about not believing in love, because honestly?! A couple of times would have sufficed to be honest, and after that, it just got on my last nerve. Now, Blue Daniels has been burned in the past by relationships so she's very jaded about them if you didn't get the memo already. She's that bad boy who hooks up randomly, only not so sexy, though it's always refreshing to me when the roles are reversed. Harris, on the other hand, is ready to pursue something serious with Blue, and while he came off like a playboy at first, he really was super sexy with sweet thrown in. He made the story 4 stars for me, but I'm gonna be honest, I wanted him to find someone else before the end. I'm as jaded as Blue about love, but I don't have to reiterated 24/7 how much 'no love' will be in my life. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I make no apologies. There's push & pull, then there's Blue. However, I won't encourage anyone to go by my feelings on the story, just one click it to decide for yourselves. As I'm a big fan of Melissa Toppen stories, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The only reason I gave this book such a high rating is because of Harris. I absolutely LOVED him but didn't get the appeal of Blue. He obviously saw something I didn't. He was charming and romantic. Yes he attracted the ladies and may have had some fun along the way but when it came to Blue, he put his heart out there and had it smashed so many times. She held up the walls until the end of the book. I get that she was burned by several bad relationships that made her hate love but she was determined to hold onto that and not let her heart feel. I mean I would have been swooning at some of the things he did for her. Maybe I'm Hannah, her best friend. She was swooning at everything he did. She was also a smart woman. She finally broke down the walls on Blue. Made her see what all he was doing was because he truly cared and loved her. Made her open her eyes for once and see he wasn't a bad guy. He was one of the good ones. I didn't really connect with Blue. I wanted to smack more times in this book. I mean it was obvious he was into her, everyone saw it but her. Ugh she makes me mad just thinking about it. This book will annoy you but you will also fall hard for Harris, he is book boyfriend material.

This book is the story of Blue & Harris. Blue doesn’t believe in love anymore so her life consists of “hook-ups” no relationships. She’s been burnt in the past and her motto is “love is just a chemical reaction in the brain”. She mentions this a lot in the book.
Then we have Harris who’s a work colleague of Blues and she looks at him as a big man-whore/player. She totally ignores him. He on the other hand has been admiring her from a far. Finally; he makes the first move and talks to her but Blue makes it very loud & clear that she’s not interested or is she? Harris begins popping up everywhere Blue is. Coffee shop, gym & where she is at work. Was he becoming a stalker?
They eventually agree to try out this attraction they have for each each other by starting a competition of who say “I love you “ first. So begins dating and a lot of sex!
I really didn’t care for Blue being so negative about love or even being in a relationship. She seemed to sabotage her relationship with Harris a lot. But I also felt Harris was falling too fast for someone that got around. The story eventually got it it’s HEA but it took a bit of a journey.

Violets are not Blue is another out of the park smash for Melissa Toppen.

Blue has experienced her share of heartache and disappointment when it comes to love and therefore she has decided she is not willing to get into a relationship with anyone. So when Harris, the man she believes to be a womanizer and man whore from work shows interest she puts her walls up. Harris however, is drawn to Blue and is determined to show her that he is not what she things.

One night Harris decides to take a chance and hits on Blue. During this process they make a bet....Harris will not have sex with anyone for thirty days and in those thirty days he will get Blue to fall in love with him. She doesn't think there is anyway he could hold out or make her fall in love with him.

Watching these two develop their friendship/relationship during this time was so fun to read. They are fun and sweet and romantic and hot. I fell in love with both of these characters who were so well developed that it was as if I knew them.

I would recommend this book to anyone.

What begins as a simple bet turns into so much more in this enemies to lovers/office romance. Harris and Blue may come from entirely different places in the world but the old saying holds true of "never judge a book by its cover". Harris's determination to show Blue that true love does in fact exist (even from a playboy like him) was charming and endearing. I think I may have fallen in love with him a little.
Violets are not Blue had a good story, great chemistry and some witty banter but I wanted just a liiiiittle more I guess. Through the whole book we are treated with a sickly, sweet romance then hit with the angst and conclusion all in the last chapter. I felt that could have been developed a bit more. All in all I did like the story and look forward to more in this world. I can see an Everett and Hannah book in our future...
