The ultimate reference and inspirational guide for gardeners in challenging climates. Takes the reader through the seasons in a most comprehensive, yet pleasurable way, as the authors celebrate a diversity of plants for every site and every season. Passionate Gardening tackles every subject, from early snows to slugs, from bulbs to botanical Latin.
When I lived in Colorado eons ago, this book was featured in The Denver Post to encourage xeriscaping. I was living in an apartment at the time but have used the ideas as soon as I was in a home in high desert living. I am now in Boise which is a lower altitude but still plant perennial plants that are either native or do well in my zones.
Passionate Gardening: Good Advice for Challenging Climates by Lauren Springer Ogden (Fulcrum Publishing 2000) (635 +/-). This volume contains beautiful photos and essays, but this guide is written by Northern Colorado gardeners whose gardens are the antithesis of my Upper South Zone 6b garden. I wish I had known that before I picked this book up. My rating: 7/10, finished 2002.
