When Trump’s first Deputy National Security Advisor left Washington, she disappeared from sight. Now former government official and political commentator KT McFarland returns with tenacity, resolve, and the truth about the Trump Administration and those seeking to destroy it. For decades, KT McFarland has been one of the country’s most prominent conservative foreign policy experts. She was part of the Trump Revolution from the beginning. As Trump’s first Deputy National Security Advisor, she had a seat at the table for Trump’s unconventional campaign and upset victory; his throw-out-the-rule-book Trump Tower Transition; the chaotic first months in the West Wing; the unusual events surrounding General Flynn’s firing; and the sprawling Mueller investigation. In Revolution, she walks the reader through the Washington Establishment’s relentless efforts to destroy Trump, populism, and nationalism in order to keep their own hands on the levers of power. The Trump Revolution, like the Reagan Revolution and all the anti-Establishment political revolutions before it, will ultimately prevail. It is this ability to reinvent ourselves, not just as individuals but as a society, that lies at the heart of American Exceptionalism. When McFarland left the Trump Administration and Washington, she disappeared from public view and refused to discuss her experiences. Now, for the first time, McFarland tells a story that reads more like a political thriller than a tour through this unique moment in history. Written with unusual candor, with insights into Trump and his inner circle, Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un, McFarland’s book is destined to become a classic. If you only read one book about the Age of Trump, make it Trump, Washington and “We the People.”
She covers a wide range of subjects in the book. K.T. has a long career in government and she talks about what she has learned in that time. I really felt like I got a lot of information form the book.
This is a great book; probably the best political book I have read in the last couple of years. McFarland describes her time at the White House with President Donald Trump. She is neither a cheerleader or TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) SJW. She explains how Trump operates, his thinking and his approach.
With her past experience with other White House Administrations, McFarland has unique view and can be a good judge of how this Administration is doing. I enjoyed her perspective on how the White House had bed set up for the anticipated Hillary Clinton. Equally interesting is the approach Trump has in meetings. He does not allow others to dictate the agenda nor control the narrative in meetings. I have always found that to be disheartening when the people elect a POTUS, and you have a bunch of puppeteers pulling the strings behind the scenes.
McFarland describes his decision making process and how he wants to be the one to make the decisions not one of his handlers. I find that refreshing. Love him or hate him, apparently those are the only positions allowed today, Trump is an amazing businessman and has brought the knowhow of the board room into the situation room and from what we can see, absent the Coronavirus, he has done amazing things for the economy, for jobs, and in spite of all the accusations, has done more for Hispanics and African-Americans (Even though I hate using hyphens) than any other POTUS in the last hundred years.
McFarland discusses that absolute war the media has towards Trump. Again, wether you love, hate or love to hate him, you have to see that the media is 1000% (yes I know it says 1,000 and that 1,000% is impossible) is an arm of the Democratic Party and that they will NEVER give Trump an "L" regardless of what he does or does not do. Just yesterday I was reading how Deblagio is installing fences on NY Beaches to keep people out, yet when Trump mentioned the wall, the Left lost their heads saying, "walls, fences or barriers or racist". We see it with Joe Biden and his son, Joe Biden and rape allegations, Biden and the Quid Pro Quo with Ukraine. We see it with Secretary Clinton and her crimes, and YES they are 100% crimes. As any of us reading this review would be under the jail for less that what she has gotten away with. Despite the constant investigations, impeachments, rhetoric, fear mongering, et al, the POTUS has STILL done some amazing things for this country that previous Administrations had told us, and we believed that would never get better; "The new normal". I wonder, how much better would this country be if only the media were "fair" (ironically they throw that word around a lot) and the House were not in a constant "impeach" witch hunt. You can still hate Trump. I hate Obama as a President, but like him from a personal basis, even though I of course do not know him. But I can separate the two.
McFarland also discusses the MO of our top LEA and how they royalty screw people. Even powerful people; people connected must beware. She discussed the FBI investigation and the Mueller investigation she was thrown into. She wrote these chapters before the information recently revealed about how the FBI and other Intelligence Agencies use their power to attack and take out their perceived foes. She wrote about Flynn, which again, if you turn a blind eye to the tactics the left has used against the Republicans, then you need to be accepting when it turns on you. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Finally, she is rightfully critical on China and their plans to overtake the US regarding super power and Worldwide influence. Sadly, we can see how the WHO was either negligent at best, complicit at worse in allowing the Coronavirus to take hold worldwide in the greatest "pandemic" this planet has seen. Yes China gets a pass. No one wants to say anything negative about them. Even the NBA and other US companies are terrified as is Hollywood to criticize China. If the aforementioned were as open to criticize China as they are to criticize Trump, China would be less bold to do what they do.
I recommend this book for anyone looking to understand the POTUS. She has a unique perspective since she has served in multiple administrations.
This is by far the best political commentary book I have read so far. I learned more about foreign policy in general but specifically on China and North Korea than I have ever heard from anyone before. I can't believe how little I did understand before I read this. The narrated version is amazing. Generally when an author narrates their own book it is a disaster but she does a wonderful job. KT McFarland was a revolutionary in politics and a female politician we should all be proud of. A woman who truly "had it all". Congratulations on a wonderful book.
This book by a former Trump official is pretty evenhanded, and manages to avoid cheerleading without being overly critical. I’ll try to be as evenhanded in my review, addressing the book from the center without ruining the book for those who what to read it.
Honestly, this may be one of the best books written on the Trump White House’s early days by a Trump official. There’s no bombshells that will end up being reported by the media, so it is not likely to get much credit. What makes this book great is its characterizations of the people and events in the Trump administration. Much of the book is counter to the narratives (either positive or negative) that have been pushed by both political sides.
K.T. McFarland is an old school self described “cold warrior”. She is self proclaimed “populist” and “nationalist,” but not in the way that those terms are typically explained in the media. She does a good job early on explaining her experience in National Security politics and media. She has some impressive experience, and even if you don’t agree with her politics it is hard to dismiss a woman who has been a part of so many events in so many administrations. McFarland explains her politics early on, and how they differ from traditional conservative positions. Yet, even though she is a conservative her book never comes across as being on sided. Henry Kissinger is the only person she seems to hold up as beyond reproach.
McFarland explains her support of Donald Trump and desire to serve in the administration early on. She believes that Trump is the closest Republican candidate to Reagan since 1988. She does not gloss over Trumps faults like the tweeting and ego, but does not ignore his strengths like thinking outside the box and asking of questions. Her descriptions of Trump are definitely more generous than what is presented in the media.
The book covers events from the campaign, transition and early days of the administration. Subjects like Russia, China, North Korea, Syria and Afghanistan are all covered. She details the events of the Michael Flynn and Robert Mueller situation as far as she knows it. She gives even handed accounts of many officials from Mattis and McMaster to Ivanka and Kushner. It is nice to hear about these people’s strengths and not just their flaws.
One of the best sections of the book is the section on General Michael Flynn. She describes him as a “good man in over his head”. Despite this, she does present his many questionable actions, which she does not believe were done out of malice. She discusses her accounts of certain meetings and events that everyone with a television is now familiar with.
The section covering the Mueller Investigation and her role in it is the most interesting of the book. Her description of her first interview with the FBI is very detailed, and is unlike anything I’ve read in any other book. Even as one of the people who was at the center of the Mueller probe, she has a unique viewpoint. She says, “My impression from their questions was that they believed Flynn and others, but especially Trump had committed some sort of crime and the were searching for evidence. It was less clear to me what they thought that crime might be.” Yet, she does not believe the special counsel operated with any kind of malice. What she does seem to find wrong is the political climate that sparked the investigation and let to many Congressional investigations even after the close of the Mueller investigation. Since she was no longer part of the administration at the time, it does not include much on the Ukraine situation or impeachment.
The book ends with her overall thoughts on the state of the country and where it needs to go. She focuses on more on what unites Americans than what divides them. She talks of America’s habit of reinventing itself and changing over time. The book ends on an optimistic note for the future of the United States.
Overall, this was a great book. It was well written, without the use of a ghost writer. It’s not a typical tell-all nor is it a conservative political treatise. The book is a memoir, but it feels like much more than that. Though McFarland is a conservative official and commentator, the book is not overtly partisan. This book is definitely worth the time for those interested in politics, National Security or the Trump administration.
KT McFarland has been at the center of Republican foreign policy-making for decades, starting in the 1970s when she first worked on the National Security Council, continuing through the Reagan Administration, Fox News, and then as President Trump’s first Deputy National Security Advisor. As part of the Trump Revolution from the very beginning, she had a seat at the table for Trump’s unconventional campaign and upset victory; his throw-out-the-book Trump Tower Transition; the chaotic first months in the West Wing; the unusual events surrounding General Flynn’s firing; and the sprawling Mueller investigation. According to Henry Kissinger, “Well written and perceptively argued, her insights into American national security – past, present and future – are indispensable.” If you love politics, this will be one of the best books you’ll read all year.
Couldn’t put this book down. KT McFarland must have been a great speech writer as she is certainly a great book writer. She made me feel proud reading it. I had many emotions, joy, sadness, yearning, pride and anger and forgiveness. She would make a great President. You will probably learn a lot from this book and understand some things a little clearer ,i do .We must get back together as a nation and as people who have been chosen to belong to the greatest nation on Earth. We need to find a way to fix our broken justice system. We must elect great men and women to save our great country. Drain the swamp. Never give up. God bless America.
An excellent compelling book! It should be required reading for every high school/college student in the country. What KT McFarland went through simply because she worked for President Trump is frightening and appalling. It is a wake-up call for me to join the "revolution" and not stay silent about what I believe in for fear of hatred from the Left. Ms. McFarland is amazingly forgiving of the entrenched bureaucracy and her honesty should serve as a model for all who love this country. Bravo to a true American patriot!
KT McFarland covers the entire scope of the debacle before and after Trump was elected.. The endless investigations, fighting against the Dems, the media and even some Republicans. Many were caught up as collateral damage once their names were connected to Trump costing them more than money spent to defend baseless claims . This is probably the best political book I have read in quite some time. I have always admired KT for her honesty and straight talk.
Fascinating story fabulously written by a true pro from within the Trump Revolution. She clearly exposes the highs and lows of daring to work at the pinnacle. What a treat.
KT McFarland is a brilliant writer and analyst of foreign policy. Here, she takes the reader through her experiences behind the scenes of the Trump Transition team and subsequently her tortuous battles with not only the failed Mueller investigation players but partisan Congressional politicians. But she pulls no punches: she calls out her displeasure with Trump's rweets and her baseless, even cruel firing. Ms.McFarland started out as a student in the Nixon administration working on the NSC with its founder Dr. Henry Kissinger. An admirer of President Reagan, she served again on the NSC during his administration. But the author (of whom I've been an admirer since The Reagan era), goes further. She brings to bear her bri!liant analysis of China, it's underhanded policies and why it is our biggest threat. Here Ms. McFarland is concise and does not fall into useless minutia. As a foreign policy expert she is unequalled. Above a!l, IT speaks from the heart. She lays out why we need to remember what The Founders of this country envisioned for its citizens: no European multiculturalism but one land one people. All Americans. I laughed, I cried, I was outraged but most of all, I came away inspired and much more knowledgeable. I highly recommend KT McFarland's "Revolution".
A brilliant book and a brilliant woman. I loved her on Fox News and whenever she came on I would stop what I was doing and listen to her every word. She is intelligent, honest, and a true patriot in my opinion. I loved the book and will be reading it again which I rarely do. I could tell she loved her family
and friends, her many important jobs, and her country. What an honor it would be to meet such an accomplished woman. Many thanks to you KT for writing this book and giving me many hours of enjoyment. God bless you, your family, and the United States of America, the greatest country I love too.
Wonderful, well thought out and succinctly written account of what transpired during her service in the Trump Administration. KT McFarland is a remarkable woman who loves America and served her country honorably throughout five decades. This is not a tell-all book as so many others have done. This book is written with integrity, insight and should inspire the reader to re-read our history and remember that "we the people" are Americans first, it's up to us to hold our leaders to account.
Gives the reader a first hand account of corruption of the DOJ and FBI. Describes how the FBI went about destroying a fine American. However, she is strong and had the resources to fight back. The FBI and Federal attorneys were only interested in scalps and not justice.
What they did to Gen Flynn, KT McFarland and many, many innocent Americans is just wrong. Barack Obama weaponized the DOJ and FBI and we, as a nation, are still suffering from that!
No doubt one of the best books I have ever read and it is highly fulfilling and educational. I recommend it to anyone who is thoughtful and discerning and l will purchase several copies for family and friends.
Somewhat wordy near the end but interesting throughout, l felt rewarded for having read it. Many thanks to the author for the great book.
Revolution is a very thought provoking book. Not only did I learn about the Washington establishment but also now have a greater understanding of the challenges that had to be overcome by the new administration. Regeneration is appropriate! We The People.......every citizen should read this book!
I loved learning about some of the history of this country we have forgotten. Also more depth into the “deep state”. I don’t agree with your comments on General Michael Flynn, who was the first target to get to President Trump, but overall, the book was very informative. We can only hope that our country reads this before we lose it.
Insightful, wide-ranging book which provides useful context for the emergent populism of 2016. KT McFarland clearly articulates her views on how the Washington Establishment works as well as the frustrations of the populist revolutionaries-Trump voters with that existing socio-political-cultural-economic order in 2016.
McFarland also portrays a highly personalized experience with the street fighting tactics of the intelligence community investigatorial agents. She brilliantly captures the early days of the Trump transition team and the staffing challenges they faced and choices that were made. In retrospect, the lack of many DC Establishment insiders proved both a blessing and a curse. It was good because they weren’t pre-programmed to Administrative State Mode, but bad because they didn’t know how to work the system. In the case of Secty of State Tillerson & NSC McMaster, the author’s view is that they also didn’t know how to work Trump. Not a good combination of deficiencies and exemplified by predictable terminations
The book bounces around a bit. She acknowledges her editorial control with Post Hill Press. Assuming it resulted in faster time to the book stores, we should give her the benefit of the doubt because it is a timely book.
The book, copyright 2020, was completed in late 2019, before Covid permeated society and emerged as both a global public health hazard and a political kingmaker in the US election.

This author is an American patriot. She has served in several American administrations in various positions in diplomatic or national security roles, most recently with the Trump administration as Deputy Assistant National Security Advisor. She witnessed the turmoil in the Nixon years including his breakthrough visit to Red China and saw the collapse of the Soviet Union under President Regan. She knows how actions of many recent Presidents have undermined America and weakened us in the eyes of our enemies. Ms McFarland joined up with President Trump as she saw his bluntness and clear thinking on what America is about, as essential elements to keep America focused on what our enemies (and our friends) were doing to our economy, our faith in ourselves and our history. She sees America as Exceptional and credits our people with making the sane choice to reconfigure in a non-violent manner using our Constitutional structure to make America the land of opportunity, material and social enrichment and pride in what we stand for and have died to protect. She is optimistic that America can weather the current crises that are in effect at the time she writes this volume (late 2019). I hope her wishes can be ultimately satisfied: for all our sakes.
Reading this book reminded me of a story line in Norman Mailer's The Naked and the Dead. In that masterpiece a soldier's wife had died while he was in combat and he continued to receive his late wife's letters (delayed by the mails and combat movements). As he read each one, he knew there would be a last one. Knowing the tragic results of the 2020 election, reading K.T.'s hopefulness about this election and our country was equally sad for me. But what a great story of devotion to country, a loving husband, and a great mind. Had she been named National Security Advisor I wonder how differently Trump's first term would have gone. She has led a charmed life, for sure, but it did not prevent her from being abused by the Democrat and Swamp abuse of power and witch hunts. But her getaway to Scotland was such a beautiful moment in the book - it made me envious of that part of her life. I pray that her optimism for our nation is prophetic but I fear there is nothing left of the men and women of duty, honor, and country that she recalls. I fear Trump was our last national, earthly hope. I turn now to our ONLY Hope: The return of Jesus Christ.
K.T. McFarland’s Revolution… presents very interesting information about her role as Deputy National Security Adviser in the Donald Trump administration as well as biographical facts about her role working for Henry Kissinger and in Ronald Reagan’s administration. For decades, McFarland has been a recognized expert in foreign affairs and geopolitics, so readers can learn much from her story spanning the mid-twentieth century to the present time. McFarland doesn’t complain, but she does include the negative details about her entrapment by the FBI as well as financial and reputational losses as a result of the Mueller investigation which, by the way, found her as well as President Trump innocent of collusion.
A well written historical representation of the events during the Trump Administration. It clearly delineated how the “left” made an effort to overthrow our constitution.
In the next to last chapter it referenced our off-shoring our steel industry. I am writing this during the Corona pandemic. In the book she emphasized the danger of off shoring our steel industry. The pandemic proved her position but in the pharmaceutical industry. The virus came from China and ironically or cruelly they controlled our pharmaceutical industry. This as well as controlling protective gear. Let’s hope we, USA, wakes up.
K.T.McFarland has provided a thoughtful reflection on her long career in public service and in the Trump White House. Her book is particularly welcome in that it provides a nuanced view of the current administration. She offers praise where it is merited and constructive criticism when it is due. This is all too rate in this time of extreme partisanship surrounding President Trump.
Revolution is a factual, can't out down books, on what really goes on in behind the scenes in D.C. It was not written to divide us, but to unite us in positive manner. You'll have a insider knowledge of who President Trump is and who the greats were.
I’d like to recommend this book to my brother-in-law who doesn’t think so clearly; yet is so sure he is right. Kate says what I believe but can’t express so well.
Very much worth the read. She touches on many topics including a stroll down memory lane with the history of America - from the American Revolution up to today. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great book to be passed on through families.
An exceptional writer and patriot has given me hope that these turbulent times can once again reinvent our nation into a fabric reflective of the great people who want to move forward, united and stronger not through violence, division and hatred, but through peaceful revolution.
I would recommend you listen to this book to catch KT's inflections. She is long-term DC professional with previous NCS experience. Her chapters on the early days of the Trump administration are revealing. Her description of how the FBI was weaponized against her and Flynn are horrifying.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. A daily news watcher, I doubted Ms. Mcfarland would tell me anything new. I was wrong. Plenty here to learn. Not only great anecdotes, but also insight into the current political scene. Highly recommended.
One of the best political commentaries I've ever read. I learned a lot and KT McFarland has given me hope that our United States will get through the current state of turmoil we find ourselves in, and continue to evolve and become an even greater country.
