A good 'ol fashioned Whoddunit with a hefty dollop of steaming, saucy sex gives you a blazing tale of love and passion.....gone awry.
I came across this book while doing promotions. The cover just drew me in. The Blurb was very magnetic and I WANTED to read this book so bad and Boy, I'm glad I did. It kept my pulse racing and eyes fixed on the words and I couldn't put it down, even for a bit.
This is the second Ghostwriter trope story I've read and first by Jodi. And now I'm so mesmerized by her writing style, I HAVE to go and read her backlist Tout Suite...Oh my growing TBR!!

Secrets keep piling up like dead bodies and the resulting chaos kept my heart pounding. I wanted to run towards the end and couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
It's very deftly Narrated, periodic twists and turns keep us engaged. I was desperate to uncover the killers identity and the Mystery kept me glued to the pages. Racy from first word to the last, it's breathtaking speed is both thrilling and antsy. Sensational story with a jaw dropping end.
You must pick this book ASAP

Where do I begin? This book has completely topped my top 5 books that Jodi has ever written! It was suspenseful and absolutely amazing. The moment you think you have the book figured out.... BOOM there goes that signature Jodi Drake twist that we all love and hate!!! Hands down the best book I have read this year so far!

Behind my Words is one of the best books I’ve laid my hands on in a long time. Drake explores the author world in a way only her dark and twisty brain can in this book about a ghostwriter, a cop, and a serial killer.
Drake has a talent for creating a complex and dynamic world that draws you into every moment and this standalone novel doesn’t disappoint. You’ll be guessing and second guessing every turn of the page.

What an amazing read!!!! Filled with mystery, secrets, suspense and romance.
I was so intrigued, I couldn’t stop reading!!!
Spencer turned to ghostwriting after a tragic incident and Blake was the new Detective of the Police Dept in town. Both of them started working together as to catch the serial killer who was creating hell!
The twists and turns were great and I never saw the end coming!! 😲😲
The secondary characters were very well positioned and created.
It was very well written and developed, had a fantastic pace and besides the two main characters’ pov there was also the one of the killer’s!

This was a new author for me, so I had no idea what I was going to get. I saw the beautiful cover, read the intriguing blurb, and I knew I just had to read it. Behind My Words hooked me right from the start and I couldn’t put it down. I devoured this book trying to uncover its secrets. It kept me guessing until the very end. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire wild ride. I loved every minute of this unique, sexy, mysterious, and captivating book!!

So everyone knows I love a good book from J.L.Drake but let me tell you people this book knocked me backwards and made me fall in love with her writing all over again. This book is a must read for 2020. The suspense of the book does not disappoint and keeps going right up until the last word. She may not leave you with cliff hanger but she gives you one hell of a twist when you least expect it too. So set aside a good 5 hours get a blanket and your favorite drink and dive into the world of “Behind My Words” and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

What can I say...I am now addicted to another story and characters. I started and finished this book in one day because I could NOT put it down! The storyline captures your attention right away and as always, Drake puts her kind of twist into it. I loved it! Honestly, I never saw that ending coming. I had to go back and reread just to be sure I got it all. Phenomenal job! There has to be a spin off. This can't be all we get of these new characters!

As usual with this authors books, there were many twists and turns in this exciting, latest, story she has written.
We meet the main character, Spencer, who is still recovering from a traumatic event from a few years back; throw in Will, her useless user self-entitled drug-addicted thief of a brother; then include Blake, an extremely handsome policeman - and the story excitingly flows. Loved the deep dark holes we go down and the truths exposed, you never see coming!

Wow! J.L. Drake sure knows how to grab your attention right from the beginning with her brilliant storytelling in her newest standalone book, Behind My Words. This romantic suspense thriller had me at the edge of my seat page after page as we follow Spencer and Blake on their quest to capture a serial killer. I really enjoyed going on this thrilling ride as only J.L. Drake could lead us on and what a twist at the end! Don’t miss out on this must read book of 2020.

She's done it again! The thrilling suspense that is JL Drake is highlighted in this new book! The twists and turns and different perspectives keep you reading, needing to know but hoping it doesn't end at the same time. There is very distinct Darkness vibe but all in this whole new world of characters that we can fall in love with.

I don't even have the words. Fitting huh? I am a huge JL Drake fan and this is just another layer of her mad writing skills I am now in love with. This story will make your heart race and have you doubting the next step at every turn. Spencer is a writer. She has suffered unimaginable losses and it wrecked her life. Writing was her solace, but when her solo career fell apart, she became a ghostwriter.
When given a new opportunity to write a murder mystery romance series, Spencer takes it on with gusto. The only problem is, soon fiction becomes her reality and she finds herself entrenched in the midst of a serial killer investigation.
Detective Blake Daniels becomes her protector and a colleague while they work to find the killer together. It doesn’t take long for those professional lines to blur. They find common ground in their lonely lifestyle and their draw to the darkness. Their chemistry is super sexy and his need to control is hot when he focuses that attention on Spencer. I loved Spencer and Blake together. They were two halves of a whole just waiting for the other.
I could not put this story down. The plot twist kept things interesting. As it unfolded I kept trying to figure out how everything was connected. The plot was well thought out and the author constantly planted doubts and kept you wondering. That ending totally took me by surprise and left me stunned! I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time.

Spencer is a best selling author that decides to leave the limelight when tragedy strikes. She starts ghostwriting because the passion is still there but the next author she works for will test her sanity. In comes the hot new detective, Blake Daniels, and things start to get very interesting. The side characters are very well developed and the banter between them all is a welcome distraction from all the heavy emotions.
I don't want to give too much away so I will leave you with this little tidbit, Jodi is true to her form and you won't see it coming!!

A fast paced thriller that kept me in suspense from start til the end.
I started reading Spencer's heart wrenching story and I read the book, cover to cover in one sitting, I simply couldn't put it down.
Spencer is through a lot to put it mildly, her life is difficult as it is. But when a serial killer sets his sights on her it becomes more complicated.
Blake is a new in town Detective and he gets assigned to the cases. The story is full of unexpected twists and turns, a fast paced read, a excellent written book, 5 stars.

I love a great mystery/thriller with strong characters and a strong and solid storyline like nothing I've read before and this book was right up my alley! J.L. Drake is a new author for me, so I had no idea what I was getting. I was drawn by the beautiful cover, hooked in with the intriguing blurb, and I knew I just had to read it. Behind My Words is great stand alone novel that pulled me in from the beginning. It is filled with surprises, plot twists at every turn and really kept me guessing throughout.

All I can say is JL Drake did it again! A great stand alone novel that pulls you in from the beginning. It is filled surprises and twists....you know, the JL Drake way! As always, I love the way the author is so descriptive, making you feel like you are experiencing the intense moments with the characters. Make sure you take your time to enjoy the read or you may miss some important details. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys suspense!

Behind My Words by J.L. Drake was my first read from author J.L. Drake, and although it's not my usual cup of tea, I loved it.
It was a romantic suspense story, full of twist and turns, and with an ending that you don't even imagine.
The characters were strong, the plot and the story were amazing.

What can I say JL Drake has written a superb book. Its a thriller, romance keep you reading till its finished kind of book. Behind my Words left me sitting and simply saying wow WTH did I just read..... I'm going to read it again. Jodi never disappoints!

This is the first story by this author that I have read but it certainly won’t be the last as I really enjoyed it. The mystery behind who the killer is interesting because we kind of know yet we don’t know why. That is an extremely clever ploy to use and it worked well. Alongside the main story is another one that explains the background of why the killer is doing what he’s doing and also what he has done in the past. However, there are so many twists and turns as one piece fits into the puzzle others move around, nothing is predictable and I loved that about the story.
The lead detective on the case, Blake, is new to the Syracuse Police Department and literally thrown into the deep end when a serial killer strikes. The sergeant’s niece, Spencer, is a mystery writer and is allowed to tag along to see and gain first-hand experience for her writing. She partners with Blake, who quickly shows that he admires Spencer and a relationship develops but doesn’t take over from the nucleus of the story.
Honestly, this is one fantastic story with terrific character development, clear descriptive scenes, and a solid storyline. It is a fast-paced story that is very easy to read for these reasons. You are literally entertained right up to the very last word and don’t be fooled into thinking you understand everything, not all of the details are revealed until the very end.

Holy freaking shit! What a phenomenal read!! Behind My Eyes is the first romance thriller that I have read, and to be honest I was a little bit wary as I tend to stay in my little box of just romance novels. But, JL Drake has completely blown my mind and I will definitely be reading more of her work after this!!
I loved Spencer and her strength and bravery, and I adored Blake and his alpha and protective ways. I don’t think I can express how much I loved them individually and as a couple, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.
Ok, so I can’t really get into too much without giving away the plot because everything is interwoven and connected and well you will just have to read it. I was practically sitting on the edge of my seat the entire book, not only was there suspense, and mystery but there was also a romance story between two awesome characters and some pretty steamy scenes.
Overall, this is definitely a 5 star read for me and I really encourage not only romance thriller lovers but all readers to read this!! As I said, I rarely step out of my comfort zone to read anything other than romance novels but I’m so appreciative that I read Behind My Words because it has not only opened my eyes to a new genre but also to an incredibly talented author.

I will start this by saying suspense books are really not usually my thing and romantic suspense I avoid even more but every once in awhile a blurb will catch my attention and I will give the book a shot. That’s what happened with this books and I am very glad I did. It’s such an interesting story a ghost writer who has been through something horrific and a cop working together to find a serial killer. With lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing and turning pages. Great characters, a gripping story, and some romance, really how can you go wrong with that?

It’s been a while since I’ve been completely immersed in the thrilling suspense highlighted in Behind My Words. I was drawn in multiple directions as the twists and turns added many avenues and surprises which kept me reading, and grasping at information. It’s a deep and dark read but it’s very intriguing and the characters are extremely well developed and likeable.
A very entertaining book, a thriller well written and developed. A definite must read!

First things first, if you've never read a book by J.L. Drake, you need to rectify that right away. She is an artist, brilliant with words and her books are EPIC. Okay, now that I've gotten THAT out of the way, let's talk about her latest masterpiece, Behind My Words.
Where can I even begin!? I mean, WOW. What did I just finish reading!!? In true J.L. Drake fashion, just when you think you have something at least somewhat figured out, she pulls the rug right from under your feet and proves that you, in fact, had no idea what was about to happen.
Spencer had a traumatic past, one that opened the door to everything that happened in this book. Now, she had a successful, yet secret, career as a ghostwriter that had her working with the police department. She'd go on ride-a-longs and take notes which would help her write her crime novels. This led her to meet Detective Hot Pants a.k.a Blake who was new to town. The current, ongoing murders had them on edge, to say the least, but led them to get to know each other better.
As things evolved, they got more and more complicated and wow, I could not turn the pages fast enough. I needed answers and more so, I could not wait to find out how all the pieces would fall into place. And guys, THAT ENDING? I did NOT see that coming AT ALL. Mad props to Ms. Drake. Wow! As I said, she's an artist and this book was a masterpiece.
What a mesmerizing and addictive story! Behind My Words is a five-star read I highly recommend you devour. A top 2020 fave!

OMG!!! This book was so AMAZING!!! What a mind warp! J.L. Drake is so good at twisting everything up and blowing your mind. That ending was not expected whatsoever and I about screamed and embarrassed myself in front of people lol!! This is one of the best books I’ve read this year! I’ll be diving into her other books ASAP!

WOAH WHAT DID I JUST READ!?!? I’m truly mind-blown by this story! In the beginning of reading this I was a little confused because of all the different moving parts and POVs, but once I realized what was going on and how this story was being told, I became OBSESSED with trying to find out who the killer was and how the murders intertwined together. In the midst of all the killings, we get the romance story of Spencer and Blake, and I loved their dynamic of their banter and teamwork. Without giving anything away from this story, I was THROWN by who was behind the murders, especially since ultimately it wasn’t necessarily the killer, although they had a hand in how excessive and large the murders got. I was extremely into this book and was kept in the edge of my seat trying to figure out all the moving parts. This was my first book from this author but most definitely won’t be my last!

Behind my words is my first book by J.L. Drake and I'm hooked!
I've been a bit irritated by the first four chapters, because there were 4 different POV's, but at chapter 5 I got it.
You read actually 3 different POV's: heroine, hero and the killer. But it's important and you will see why as the story unfolds.
The story kept me on my toes, I wanted to know WHY all this happened after the first murder, you will read in the first chapter.
I loved the flawless dynamic in the book.
God, I had so many guesses to the person and was so, so wrong!
I was really shocked as the book ended! What the person behind the killer had done ... I only can shake my head in disbelief. I'm still questioning myself if it's better for the h to know it at all or not.
This book crawled under my skin and I will definitely continue to read the books by this author.
